Frank Seravelli basically doubling down on what he said previously.

Saying that Kane could be coming back and our deadline will likely be dollar in dollar out.

Also saying that because of that, we can really only afford one move. He believes based on his conversation with Bowman on Friday, that they believe that goaltending isn't what's holding them back. He thinks that we need a dman to play with Nurse as our top priority.

Already posted this once, but if Frank is right it means that Bowman and company chose not to match the Holloway offersheet for essentially no reason.

Fireable offense.

Bit head scratching that we're apparently afraid of Gibson because of his contract but are in on Binnington, the guy who pretty much makes the same for just as long and already blocked a trade here once in the last 15 months.
But its already confirmed we are in on Gibson

If that's true, and Kane doesn't come back and light the world on fire in the regular season games he plays, he's done here as far as I'm concerned.

Lmao, I really hope that isn't true but if it is... Yeah, that's definitely pink slip worthy. Currently more points than every forward on our team not named McDavid or Draisatl.

That fat hot dog forgot what happened this week and weekend? Why the f*** would the friggin GM tell a guy in a hot dog costume his deadline plan LOL

No cap room. JJ basically set the table for what the org could offer by signing both Arvidsson and Skinner. The leftovers were for Broberg and Holloway, and they didn't amount to a whole lot.

It's Exhibit A on why you don't get caught up in the smell of your own farts from any taste of success.

Oilers front office got high on themselves after a Finals appearance and it was all about CULTURE! Everyone has to buy in! This Cup CULTURE! Oilers CULTURE! How dare you not want to earn your dues Holloway! You're gone! Not part of our CULTOOOOOR!!!

You can get carried away with that stupid shit.

Fair, and I guess I'm not that worried about the other end of that either. There are other options as UFAs (or RFAs) the Oilers could look at if Rantanen is just going anywhere.

I'm not saying it's likely, but if the worry is we've seen the high water mark for a beloved player, maybe exploring that move would be something for the team to change it's look going forward.

As if it doesn't need a shake up?
Lose 4 games and trade one of the biggest voices in the locker room and our best winger?

No cap room.

They had the ability to make Holloway work if they wanted to. The choice was made to accrue cap space for the deadline instead. At some point they also abandoned that plan and called up extra players/claimed Kapanen on waivers taking the team tight to the cap and the defense for this was they had Kane LTIR to play with.

If they also can't do that then it means that either the front office botched their own plan completely or maybe never even had an actual plan in the first place.

I thought part of the reason they traded Ceci was to make that exact room. That they didn't sign either after that was very puzzling.

You can also get pompous and stupid about it though. The one org in pro sports that takes it to a wild level is the Miami Heat in the NBA, they even have a freaking third jersey that has "Heat Culture" emblazoned on it, but it gets stupid, they got into basically a fight with their own star player and were doing things like suspending him every other week until they finally caved and just traded him to Golden State.

Like I get it, but you become pompous and ass-hated when you're took into the whole "we're special rah rah". Like shut the f*** up Miami, the only recent championships you won are because you got LeBron James from Cleveland in his prime, not because of any culture shit.

Could they have run a full roster with Holloway or would it have been like last season where they couldn’t even sit a player?

Well that was the other problem, at 2.2 for Holloway you're over the cap unless you put Kane on LTIR, which they didn't want to do because acruing cap space suddenly became the most important thing ever to the org.

They couldn’t spend Kane’s LTIR though because what if he came back.

So sounds like we would have zero roster flexibility again. Not saying it was the right move but I understand why the team didn’t want to go there again.

Yes they would have had to trade Kane at some point during the season.

In hindsight now, the correct move was probably to match both and sit down Henrique and Arvidsson and say "look we know we signed you guys, but we really didn't see this coming and we're going to have to trade you, can you give us a list of places you would prefer to go to and we'll do our best to make sure you get there".
