Finally got around to listening to last night's GYB. Yeah, I don't see how there's any talk about Kane coming back before the playoffs. He's barely skating, and still no word on returning to practice. So in the next 5 to 6 weeks he's going to return to practice and be ready for game action?

They were also (confidently) wrong about a player's LTIR status if they're on a conditioning stint; They said he needs to come off LTIR first; but no, a player stays on LTIR while on the LTIR conditioning stint (Thing is it's only 3 games/6 days, possibly up to 5 games). We saw this last season with Kylington.

So if Kane is game ready by April 6th (optimistic imo), then he'll already be in line to stay in Bakersfield through the end of the Oil's season. That's far more likely.

LOL Friedman said front office is trying not to panic. Why does that sound like they are panicking?

I bet we’ll circle back around to Gibson if we can’t find our help on defence

Friedman on Oilers Now:

-Goaltending upgrade is "unlikely", but not a definitive no.
-One thing Oilers management is concerned about is that the team has been one of the worst teams in the league at giving up goals off the rush. This was something we excelled at last season, but has been a problem for this year's group since the middle of November. Stauffer suggested part of that might have to do with team speed not being as good as it was last year. Management is trying to pinpoint the best way to solve that problem.
-Chemistry up front is also something they may be looking at.

Hmmmm. I wonder why that is.

Last offseason Washington added:
PLD, Chychrun, Matt Roy, Andrew Mangiapane, Logan Thompson, Taylor Raddyish.
That is 3 middle 6 players, 2 second pair defensemen, and a starting goaltender, all between the ages of 24-29 without giving up much from their roster, overpaying anyone, or giving up a 1st round pick. They transformed their entire roster and are now tops in the NHL. Meanwhile, we gave up on all our young middle 6/2nd pairing players for marginal, 30+ slow vets who want a free ride to the playoffs. And you have Oilers media telling fans to “be patient” lol.

I do think team speed is a factor, our forward back check pressure has not been as strong and cause of that our D can't as actively challenge and are backing up more.

I've mentioned the target before without even thinking it was originally a Bowman signing. Apparently Stan signed Soderblom initially back in 21.

If the cost of retained Gibson/Binnington is too high, and Utah/Detroit are not sellers, I would like to see a Skinner/Soderblom tandem.

I hate the mentality that they need to win for Mcdavid right now and just collect players over 30. You need young players that can better deal with a grueling playoff run to mix in with the vets.

Could probably get Rantanen for a 7th at this point. That trade ruined my fantasy team. Guy has turned into a complete ghost.
You’d think he’d just take the massive offers they’ve given him. Like does he not care about money? He could be playing himself out of a huge deal.

Hopefully he really doesn’t care about money and signs with us for less than he’s been offered so far.

Just weird, he’s turned down massive offers from two contenders.. what does he want?
