If they have no cap space, which seems 50/50 at this point, they need to move out significant salary to bring in a significant player. Who besides Skinner is a candidate to be a viable salary dump?
Management really screwed up big time if Kane is coming back, just a monumental botch if that's what transpires. I'm shocked that a seasoned GM like Bowman, despite his obvious flaws, let it get this point yet....here we are.
Who replaces skinner if we move him out? Kane is an unknown.

I’ll take his uncle Tony- oh eh, eh oh

Skinner is scratched tonight
Well that’s stupid.
knob standard scratching a goal scorer

the craziest thing is the disconnect between coach and management since the summer and free agency. Jeff Skinner isn't a kid, he's played over 1000 NHL games, lots and lots of tape to watch of him. Why would JJ sign a guy, who the coach doesn't trust? It's clear that Knob does not trust Skinner, look at how little he uses him. It's not like the wingers playing in the top 6 are crushing it, and there's no spot for Skinner in one of those spots. Arvidsson, Pods, even RNH and Hyman, are all not having very good seasons.

I think Jeff Skinner is a better player than Viktor Arvidsson. If Skinner was given Arvidsson's usage (tons of time with Draisaitl) he'd have 15 or 16 goals right now, maybe more.
Jeff Skinner has always been the superior offensive talent, but coaches are more concerned with goal differential and Skinner has had a harder time outscoring what he gave up than has Arvidsson.

Skinner has been outscored 8 times at 5 on 5 in his career
Arvidsson has only been outscored 1 time at 5 on 5 in his career (his rookie season)

While it is a fair argument to point out Skinner has been on bad teams for a good chunk of his career, but even with us Arvidsson has a 57.1 GF% and Skinner has 44.7% GF% at 5on 5.

Also as I've said before Arvidsson isn't reliant on McDavid or Draisaitl, he plays better without them, his ideal linemate appears to be RNH.

Not wrong at all. Then he sees players considered rivals leave shit franchises and immediately win, like Eichel and Tkachuk. Or guys like Mack win because his team could make great trades, and draft another generational guy in Makar 4th oa, whereas we got JP with our high pick in the Davo era.

As much as I love Ekholm, he's looking slow already which is what I worried about at the time, and why I was on the Chychrun train. Maybe Hymans 50g season was the equivalent of Nuge's 100pt, and we never see anything close again.

I can definitely see a path for this team which leads to McDavid leaving. Just assuming he will stay no matter what, seems foolish. The team needs to go all in, trade every pick and prospect besides Savoie imo, get the bums off the team and give Davo the same help other superstars have gotten.
Mack was also making 6m when he won.

An important point you left out

Surely we can (hopefully) fleece Verbeek as well for Gibson.

Lets be real. No one gonna do us a favour. Hopefully Verbeek/Gibson feel like they have no leverage though. Its time for the Ducks and Gibson to part. Hopefully its just a second round pick type of return for a retained Gibson (if it even happens).

I don’t understand either of the trades mentioned especially the Husso one. Yzerman and Verbeeks wifes are probably part of the same wine and louis vuittons club though.

I kinda get the Trouba one because even though he’s expensive, its just really hard to get a RD. Still crazy that paid assets while getting no retention though.

I agree. Against Vegas, McLeod matched up real well and won his share. We fell apart when Woody moved away from that matchup

It’s not only the defensive end- he is horrible in the neutral zone. Maybe he doesn’t have faith in his skating to front plays that he just backs up giving up easy zone entries

When we signed him we knew what we were getting. Management is clearly more focused on firepower, real or perceived then on D.

Insider trading is saying a Dman may be our top priority. If Skinner shits the bed tonight that may change.

But if we are going for a dman (also forwards according to Lebrun) then it better be top 4 dman

Darren Dreger said the Oilers and John Gibson talks have been out there for a long time all season. He said this on Edmonton Sports Talk

He’s about one of the only ones left I believe when it comes to the Oilers. The Oilers own media pisses on everything and then mock the fans, Frank throws cold water on everything, Friedman either does the same thing as Frank or is so vague, you barely notice he’s talking about the Oilers.

I didn’t get a chance to post earlier today as I was too busy at work, but this was my thoughts as well. On the other hand, Skinner is what he is. One game shouldn’t be the decision maker. Pull the trigger. Get a damn goalie.

Friedman on Oilers Now:

-Goaltending upgrade is "unlikely", but not a definitive no.
-One thing Oilers management is concerned about is that the team has been one of the worst teams in the league at giving up goals off the rush. This was something we excelled at last season, but has been a problem for this year's group since the middle of November. Stauffer suggested part of that might have to do with team speed not being as good as it was last year. Management is trying to pinpoint the best way to solve that problem.
-Chemistry up front is also something they may be looking at.

I believe the answer to bullet #2 is in bullet #1.

Maybe the players would have some chemistry if Knob wasn’t constantly switching the lines each game.
