Foegele 15G, 15A, +22
Holloway 17G, 24A, +9
McLeod 14G, 16A, +13

Not to mention they all PK and have developed roles that this organization refused to trust them with.
JJ couldn't wait to throw Kenny Holland's good players in the trash in exchange for older, slower, smaller and worse players

yikes

Very illuminating.
I posted in anther thread that the team has not properly replaced these players.

Also of note the players the Oilers brought in (to replace these players) made them a significantly older team.

Mcleod would be the most useful if he wasn't such a wuss in the playoffs
We replaced them with Skinner who is a wuss in the regular season too, Arvidsson who is so perimeter he could be in a common law marriage with it. We replaced wusses and soft guys with arguably bigger wusses and softer guys….who are also worse hockey players lol

Since the calendar changed to 2025, Jeff Skinner has 5 goals in his last 15 games with no top 6 time aside from 1 game, no PP time, and is a +4 in that span too ... that's a 27 goal pace from the bottom 6 basically.

None of McLeod, Foegele, or Holloway produced at that rate here from the bottom 6 basically alone.

He has picked up his game in all respects, not his fault the coach doesn't know what he's doing with the forwards at all.

Well...Arvidsson isnt really a perimieter player. He goes into the heavy areas of the ice but his issue is that he ends up on his backside all too often. He just doesnt have the size.

Where are you seeing this? Because my information is coming out of guys like Ryan Rishaug as late as yesterday evening. Oilers don't know shit, and have been informed from Kane that they will be updated on Mar. 1. This is not a tactic by the organization, they truly do not have a firm decision if Kane will play or not before playoffs, and it's worrisome.
I was told from the same people that told me Henrique was being traded here. They said The Oilers know they have the cap space available. I took that as he's out until Playoffs, maybe it means he will be traded if he doesn't play nice.

The team itself is fine. Do we need more support scoring sure, but the thing sewering this team is your precious Skinner.

For what it's worth, Bob Stauffer said there was virtually no chance the Oilers look at Karlsson given that Bouchard is the main PP guy.

Edit: that was about a month ago though.
Love seeing the Karlsson dialogue come around. It's been here all season.

The critical aspect is not replacing Bouchard but rather supplementing the Oilers top of umbrella PP option with an elite processor right shot option in the Nugent Hopkins spot. Force PK defenders away from their disruptive and effective game planning on Bouchard. Adding as well a second elite PP speed puck carry option to augment McDavid again spreading out aggressive PK that's extending into neutral zone to stall McDavid's Mach 4 zone entry carry.

Add the EV ice elite second pair puck mover to help support Line 2 and this team moves more quickly from team defending to transition offense while also keeping the fleas off heavy, hard forecheck opposition with a d-man who processes quickly and can spring quicker, efficient zone exits to move the Oilers to attack.

I felt the 4 Nations Tournament would reset how Karlsson was viewed. Spark this guy's elite talents within a competitive environment and watch him go. Skating and processing are both elite. Zero concern about slipping on age curve of mere mortal players.

Honestly I still don't mind letting McLeod or Foegele go. Savoie's ELC years are going to be important, and imo Foegele's too small to play the game he wants (he fits better in LA where he can be the smallest guy on this line, that wouldn't be the case here). Same with the Arvidsson signing: he gives you something the team lacked, a skilled RHS that can create offence, and he also fit as a nice bridge to Savoie.

The big mistake was signing Skinner.

With Arvidsson already here, that made them too small on wing. Plus with 6 other quality LHS (McDavid, Drai, RNH, Henrique, Holloway, and Kane), it was harder to see where Skinner fit in without stepping on others' toes. Not to mention that 3mil went a long way to making them vulnerable to the offer sheets.

RNH-McDavid-Hyman
Holloway-Drai-Arvidsson
Janmark-Henrique-Brown
Lavoie-Ryan-Perry

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Broberg/Kulak
Broberg/Kulak-Ceci
Stecher

Skinner
Pickard

And about 5mil in LTIR space to upgrade the roster.

I feel bad for Stan Bowman. Knobhead sure isn’t making his job any easier with his Pejorative Slured lineup decisions

I think Jeff Skinner is a better player than Viktor Arvidsson. If Skinner was given Arvidsson's usage (tons of time with Draisaitl) he'd have 15 or 16 goals right now, maybe more.

if Kane comes back during the regular season, it'll be dollar in-dollar out for players
Why even give him a chance of coming back during the regular season?
Spend the LTIR relief from Kane on other needs at the deadline, then if he wants to come back
in-season, we have to be cap compliant in order for that to happen, which we won't be (purposely).
And he doesn't play until we are cap compliant, or the playoffs start, whichever comes first.

In a vacuum, yes.

But as said, the Oil have a lot of LHS that can fill Skinner's role, even if he's a better goalscorer.
Arvidsson at least gave them something they didn't have (a skilled RHS)

If he’s medically cleared to play while the season is still happening, they have no choice.

lol I honestly I don't care if they change up the goaltending...unlike some here who seems to think they should just hand us the Cup with Gibson in net

It wouldn't hand you shit, but it would give you a fighting chance especially against certain teams. As is, Skinner is gonna get cooked if he ever has to face a top tier offensive talent like an Eichel or MacKinnon/Makar in a 7 game series.

If we can draw the exact same path to a Finals (LA to Van to Dallas), then maybe we can insulate Skinner enough because the best offensive player he'll have to see is like Jason Robertson, but if he has to face anyone a tier above that, dude is gonna get his ass cooked.

Binningtons final went seven games as well and he had a couple poor games in that series and the run as a whole had some bad games. Yes he won game seven, and the 4N tourney but that had everyone questioning his start in the final and now he’s a legend? Out side of the overtime’s people on here were constantly calling him Skinner.

Like I said, there’s very little to choose between them. But if I had to pick one - which was what the topic of discussion was - between Binnington, Skinner and Gibson, I would take Binnington. Never called him a legend. Recognize he’s very similar to Skinner.
