This is not true at all. They do know that they will have the cap space.
Where are you seeing this? Because my information is coming out of guys like Ryan Rishaug as late as yesterday evening. Oilers don't know shit, and have been informed from Kane that they will be updated on Mar. 1. This is not a tactic by the organization, they truly do not have a firm decision if Kane will play or not before playoffs, and it's worrisome.

Maybe the overly generous read of this the coaching staff knows what they have in J-Skins and they want to view other weaknesses/deficiencies?

I doubt it, but you never know, they haven't found quite what they're looking for yet with the roster.

He'd look good here. Arvidsson, Klingberg and Akey for Karlsson at 50%?

Arvidsson will never go due to his friendship with Ekholm.
That said, you know that even if they trade Arvidsson...J Skinner will still be PB'd

I would be willing to do so, just thought that was a reasonable place to start.
Looking at the Karlsson thread your value may be closer than mine. I'd do that deal in heart beat. Karlsson would be a massive upgrade on Klingberg and Savoie replaces Arvidsson. That would also be cap neutral.

Now all you have to do is prove me wrong by making it happen!! :)

We do this same song and dance every year of people complaining about management not doing anything and every year they make upgrades at or near the deadline.

If you listened to the posters around here, the Oilers werent making the playoffs after 20 games last year, they weren’t going to beat the Canucks after they went down against them in that series, they definitely weren’t going to beat a much better and deeper Dallas team, and they weren’t going to come back to force a game 7 and almost win against the Panthers. But they did all those things.

Let’s get to the deadline and see what happens or here’s an even crazier idea, wait until the playoffs are played before we make declarations on the team because this team has continually outperformed the premature declarations many posters around here have made.

I actually get the feeling they’re going to bring in another goalie and take some sizeable deadline swings while possibly moving an Arvidsson or Kane at the same time.

Plus, the Pens can turn the 2 guys they got around for assets in short order, it really does seem like a great fit for both teams. (especially the Oilers lol)

No he wouldn’t even at 50%.

After seeing Karlsson with Ekholm, I'd take him on the Oilers if all it cost was 2nd+Arvid+Stecher. It would help with keeping the price down on Bouchard.

I think he goes to Dallas tho

EK probably only works in season at max retention. Skeptical Pittsburgh would be willing to do that for a reasonable asset ask but if they are I'd make it happen this time.

I don’t see the reason to move Skinner at this point. His play lately has been easily worth 3 million. No use spending assets to replace his hole if we move him.
If they have no cap space, which seems 50/50 at this point, they need to move out significant salary to bring in a significant player. Who besides Skinner is a candidate to be a viable salary dump?
Management really screwed up big time if Kane is coming back, just a monumental botch if that's what transpires. I'm shocked that a seasoned GM like Bowman, despite his obvious flaws, let it get this point yet....here we are.

Travis Dermott on waivers. If Oil pick him they can send him straight to Bako without going through waivers now right?

Nope, it's been more than 30 days since he was waived by the Oil, so they'd have to re-waive him to send him down. Still, I do think it's a safe bet they put in a claim.

They have zero depth on the left side, and oddly there's not a lot of cheap (<1mil, even at 50%) LHD floating around this deadline.

I think management likes Skinner btw, Knob for some reason doesn’t. I think other teams would be interested in him, he’s clearly a good player and a vet.

I’d be all over Karlsson if they retained. Oddly enough this team feels like it could use more raw talent this season. I don’t care what anyone says, he’d be great here.
