How would you guys feel about Marchand for a playoff run. He is old balls but he has good production still, can be that shit disturber we need at times.

Sure, but that's only if you're lucky, with his health and production, you'll probably have pay to get rid of him or take back a similar player. Feels like a draft move.
He feels like Tyson Barrie. A player that his teammates love, but he's carrying some necessary cap required for other, more important roles.

We have 52 bottom six forwards. Arvidsson has very little value too, another team will be doing the Oilers a favor taking that contract off their hands. Arvidsson is on a 13-14 goal pace, that's lower than Klim Kostin level production here while, Kailer Yamamoto may have the same numbers here stapled to Draisaitl, that's not going to be terribly difficult to do without.

This isn't a bottom 6 problem, we have too many bottom 6 forwards (Arvidsson may as well be one at this point) this management needs to man up and do something significant this deadline, another freaking bottom 6 forward isn't moving the needle.
Our bottom six hasn't replaced the kind of impact players that Foegele and McLeod were at certain periods of last year's Cup run.

They need size, they need speed and most importantly, they need to win the battle when the big two aren't on the ice.

Bottom six depth is a big reason why we went to the Finals last season. And it's an even bigger strategy that teams like Vegas and Dallas will be rolling out this season on their playoff rosters.

Would anyone trade McDavid if it meant it fulfilled every weakness this team has?

Obviously I'm being facetious but I have thought about ways to fix this team. I've often wondered what the return could be.

Just for fun

McDavid + Skinner

For

Stützle + Tkachuk + Ullmark + 1st
Mcdavid is just to fun to watch. I’d rather be able to watch him play in an Oiler jersey for the next 8+ years even if it meant we don’t win a Cup.

Foegele, McLeod and Holloway have a combined 45-54-99 their replacements
Skinner, Podkolzin, Arvidsson have
24-36-60

Thats a massive drop.

100% agreed. I'd be ok with that rat bastard Hathaway too.
How are they on the PK?

Foegele and McLeod are guys that I wanted gone. I really don't gaf what they are doing. Holloway is going to sting for a long, long time. Savoie is showing more balls, grit and strength than McLeod ever did here so we may well win the hell out of that trade.

No idea if they get much PK time.

Foegele and McLeod scored at a lower rate than Klim Kostin did in the 2023 playoffs and lower than Slepyshev in the 2017 playoffs.

They didn't have very good playoffs.

Secondly, this is completely asinine incompetent management. So now we're supposed to focus the entire deadline on getting shittier versions of players we already had 9 months ago and just leaving other hugely pressing needed unaddressed?

If that's the brain dead management you have, you are likely never winning ever. You're just spinning your wheels going nowhere, if I'm McDavid and there is no major add at the deadline this year that actually wins hockey games I'm not committing the remaining prime years of my career to this team so easily by signing an extension next summer.

I would tell them I'm not signing anything and will wait to become a UFA, Edmonton will have a chance but so will other teams. Because that frankly is horse shit management, why commit your remaining years to a team that has no clue how to build a Cup winner and requires two guys to go supernova to make up for weaknesses all over the roster. That's not good enough for year 10, that's not good enough to move the needle for this team or address any of the major weaknesses on the roster.

So? Nothing is saying they couldn't.

Well except for the reality that they didn't and it's not like they didn't get plenty of time with Draisaitl either. The fact is actually Skinner-Arvidsson-Podz are actually producing about the same as what Foegele-McLeod-Holloway did here last year even though the Oilers are dumb enough to pay a whole lot more for that same production. Perry and Brown are producing more this year than last year too. Kapanen has pitched in a few goals too.

The bottom 6 isn't the problem. It's a lack of a real starter, a real deal top 6 winger, and our D still likely being a Kulak-tier d-man short of being ideal.

Skinner doesn't get much benefit of the doubt from Knob either, he'd probably easily have 15 goals right now if he had more time with Draisaitl.

That's not how that works.

Foegele-McLeod never put up those numbers for the Oilers.
Getting rid of Foegel and McLeod was addition by subtraction regardless of who their replacements are. They weren’t trusted during the playoffs to close out games and Foegele was a huge factor in costing us game 7.

Enough said about the goaltending.

Why's it bad because they extended Drai? It's a business. Drai is locked up. Why does Tkachuk "fake" an injury? Edmonton is far different than Calgary when it comes to player destination. I think your opinion is based on emotions. Have them add then.

They're both similar players... except I actually think Bouchard is better.
he might be, it's more recency bias, also I like the contract that Sanderson signed, and I'm afraid of the potential deal that Bouchard is going to sign. 8.05 million per for 8 years, that's a solid deal for Sanderson.
