??? I mean why, they're desperate and they know that guy is very good, plus you still have Pickard
Because his injury is not going to get better and he can’t seem to play with it. It’s a ridiculous idea.

We need a goalie that we know will actually play. Not one who will probably end up on the injured list and force us to continue playing Skinner.

Yeah but even though we assume the retention, there's no guarantee, plus getting Demko gives you a chance at high end goalie, assuming he can get proper treatment, plus this team is desperate enough to try.
There is no proper treatment. It’s already been made clear he has to learn how to play with his issue.

Honestly I'm more likely to blame the incompetence in Vancouver, but who knows. I mean Demko at 30% is what like twice a Skinner, so they're still ahead.

IDK man, I wouldn';t bet against Vancouver with Goaltending when you review their track record vs ours in the arena.

Thats setting yourself up for a fleecing. If Van is done with Demko, we probably dont want him.

If Canucks are paying Lankinen almost 5M on a long term deal, it’s a pretty big red flag on Demko. Like I said you have to be really sure the guy is going to be able to stay healthy while handling a starters workload before you going shelling out quality assets for him.

The Oilers aren’t desperate at all, certainly not enough to take a big risk swing on a goalie.

They have to swing for someone that will play.
Who? Gibson might come here, but why would you when you can go to Carolina?

Vejmelka is interesting, but he needs an extension and look what lankinen just got? Plus there's no guarantee they trade him. Detroit is in the playoff hunt, so no need to move their goalies.

There isn't anyone. Demko seems like the only option

If he’s the only option then no.

He clearly isn’t.

Gibson would come here, it’s already been reported.

There may very well be other options we don’t know about but Demko is a non-starter. He’s damaged goods and not worth the risk.

I’m not going to comment anymore because this is a circular conversation based on a ridiculous idea.

Sure, but like the team is finished with the current situation.

You have a significant amount of the group think waxing poetic about the misunderstood hero Jack Campbell, because of a good 20 minutes he played against the Kings one time in the playoffs, pining for that player and his brilliance.

The Oilers feature a #3 who's playing well, but over his head and the worst goalie in the history of the league as their starter, who would have already been arrested(?) for his play in any other market.

If Demko isn't an option, the team is done, because they don't have the will or assets for the other guys.

If you're trading with the Oilers, why don't you hold out for multiple firsts, because they're so slow on the draw despite being extremely desperate. It's all pretty hopeless.

Thatcher Demko is not an option. This is his injury history:

Plus even if he sold his soul to the devil to just stay kind of healthy, it would cost a lot to get him from a hated, division rival who the Oilers are likely facing in R1 or R2. You don’t think for a second the rats on that team would be running him as they know his injury weaknesses? I’d rather keep Skinner and you should all know how I feel about Skinner by now.

Then they might as well pack it in and call it a season.

If they lose in the playoffs and it's directly related to poor goaltending and Bowman did nothing to shore it up I could definitely see him getting canned.

The whole org seems to be in love with Skinner. They’re smashing a square peg into a round hole with him. He was pegged right from his draft he was going to be their starting goalie. Konovalov saw the push he was getting in the AHL, so that and being a bit homesick, he said screw it and went back to Russia (the hill I will die on is he would have been a way better goalie and an actual starter).

Since the org has gone all-in with Stu, they don’t want to come out looking stupid and are desperate to make themselves be correct, even though most fans and everyone outside Edmonton in the league see him for what he is.

As Bowman has no ties to Skinner, it should be a no-brainer to make a major upgrade but if it’s the players saying “Stu is a good guy, we believe in him” then they really have no one to blame but themselves and don’t deserve to win a f***ing thing if they’d rather have a bromance than a championship.

Would that be 3 GMs in a row that completely failed to acquire a legit starting goalie? Basically McDavids entire career except that one season with Talbot.

If Bowman somehow doesn’t see and fix this glaring issue then there really is something in the water.

What an unexpected, uncommon occurance for that player.

How could we overlook the certainty that this could be a reliable starter and a good way of utilizing our limited cap space and valuable trade capital?
Not a certainty but goaltending is easily our biggest weakness and the aspect of the team that will most likely sink us.

The deadline is supposed to be about shoring up weaknesses.

Theodore out for VGK, Tkachuk possibly done for FLA, Avs still pretty shaky.

Get a goalie.
Get a goalie.
Get a goalie.
Get a goalie.
GET A f***ING GOALIE.
They will all be back game 1 of the playoffs. This is just how they get capspace for the deadline. Maybe McDavid should think about doing the same since people are speculating he can't use his left arm.

And the whole issue with this discussion is generally about how simple some think that the solution is simply because of how poor they suggest the Oilers' current situation is.

Reality is that the goalie market is less than stellar. The Oilers have limited cap space. And the team also have other areas they should address prior to the playoffs.

Gibson has a frequent injury history to go along with the last half decade of poor goaltending. We're seeing the risk in real time.

Every move comes with risk. It's all about managing risk to reward. The potential reward of a goaltender who can provide consistent .910 goaltending is much more enticing than an energy fwd / checker who may add some physicality and edge in a bottom-6 role. I'd be happy for you to go ahead and justify why you think the latter or any other position is more deserving of an upgrade.

The Goaltender market is less than stellar sure, but the flip side of that is that there are not many teams looking for a goaltending upgrade.
