The point is that he is put up similar numbers as Stu has this year. Stu's playoff numbers are worse than Campbell's regular season numbers- and yet- Skinner is being defended here
He played like part of one game. And no he didn't, he consistently failed it's why Stu took his f***ing job. If Holland wasn't so f***ing stubborn, he would have been gone the first offseason or waived a hell of alot sooner.

You guy can hate Stu as much as you want, sincerely he's a flawed player. However he's accomplished more as this flawed goaltender for this team than Jack Campbell has ever as a starter.

The “Jack Campbell was amazing in the playoffs!!!” narrative is the most ridiculously mythical of all Oiler related narratives over the past 5 or so years.

If the Hawks want to eat alot of that contract and he'd come, I would pay a decent amount from the Oilers

I’m curious if Jones would think about nuking his contract so he go somewhere not shitty at a market rate. A fair amount of his deal was paid up front, you could probably sign him on a 6 year deal at a more reasonable AAV without costing him too much overall cash.

I’ll give a lot of credit to Saad for what he did, and I wonder if it will be something that decent players on terrible deals consider so they can start fresh, extend their career, and not be a local pariah.

If the Hawks, sincerely, were willing to eat $4 to 4.5M (and he was willing to come) I'd give up a hell of alot for him.

He won't be. A casual skate at 60% pace (I dont know how Gregor assessed it at 60% lol) is a far way from being game ready. His whole upper core was rebuilt. Has hasn't done any strength training. He won't be back. I bet the Oilers will also explore trading him if there is a hint that he will return.

Look- .873 is the same save % as Stu in the first period and .888 is pretty close to Stu's .900 this year

Deepest apologies I thought we re discussing Campbell and his stats. Not Skinner who I have made clear I am not a fan of

Probably because he was literally the worst goalie in the NHL that season.
Can’t argue with that but he was known to go thru hot stretches like he did with the Leafs the previous year. It was worth a shot against the Knights since Skinner wasn’t doing well in his first playoff experience.

Hawks would get nothing for him though if they agreed to mutual termination.

To be fair at the start of the year last year, both of the goalies sucked, they just didnt want to risk Skinner being claimed because his contract was better.

They both were ass, I think Campbell even had slightly better numbers

Ill say it again- why is Campbell with a save % of .888 unplayable but Stu’s .900 behind a much better defensive team good?

All good man!

They would get out from under that hideous contract.
Almost $10M in extra cap-space is definitely worth something.
Would also save them from having to retain on his contract for the next 5 years, which probably has to happen in any trade scenario.

Good lord. I'm all for trading for a goalie but some of you guys have lost your minds. Jack Campbell apologism to shit on Skinner? Did you guys just delete 2022-2024 from your memory banks or something?
Again- no one is apologizing for Campbell. We are asking all the Skinner defenders where is your line of being unplayable? I’ve seen a bunch of sidesteps - but no one answering

On a non goaltending related note. I read on an earlier page that Craig Button recommended we go after Alex Tuch. Would be a lovely pickup. One of the few guys who consistently goes positive every year on a dogwater Buffalo squad, one of the fastest skaters in the league, and a menace off-puck via his forechecking/ability to get to loose pucks. His game is a potential perfect complement for McDavid or Draisaitl (or pretty much any star player who likes the puck on his stick, really).

When did I say to not get another goalie or that Skinner has been playable this season? He's clearly been awful. But as bad as he's been, he's still putting up similar numbers this season to Jack Campbell's best 10 game stretch as an Oiler (which is to say, Skinner is playing like shit). Jack Campbell is very literally the worst Oiler of all time and directly costed us a Stanley Cup, both for f***ing up our goaltending situation that we had to go to Skinner in the first place, and costing us 5 million worth of players for the roster. Should've forced him into the player assistance program like Detroit did but Ken Holland was too busy trying to ResPeKT VeTuRaNS.

There's a more reasonable comparable to Skinner, it's Koksinen. They're basically the same tier of goalie and have virtually identical numbers in Edmonton, Skinner just plays on a way better club that what Koskinen did.

Great article here by Bruce

He reminds me a lot of Brayden Point. He’s obviously got a long way to go to match that level but stylistically very similar players.

Seems like he has the type of game that could click in our top 6 and if he does, having this kid on an elc for the next two years is absolutely massive.

I think he’s an asset that will give them a decent return if they eat some of the contract, which shouldn’t be an issue for them, they are years from being a contender and needing cap space. Also Jones would be a fool to give that up, nobody is paying him close to that.
