Why? everyone and their dog knows Bob is better, it's why he makes 10 mil and Skinner 2.6
if Championships were decided simply by who has the better goalie, the Jets would have multiple Cups

Talk about moving goal posts.

So go out and spend more money on a better goalie if that's your argument.

Also yes having a better goalie over a worse goalie is usually a good thing. What are we doing here?

Advanced stats and hockey analytics are a part of the game. These metrics allow us to quantify and discuss what we are seeing on the ice, not contradicting it. The data and spreadsheets are driven by the on-ice results. It's treated "as religion" because it's the truth without bias. Expected goals drive actual goals. It's the best indicator of success that we have. Sure, everyone would rather have an actual goal on the board, which is why you "do the little things" that result in more chances, more possession and a better opportunity at winning. Generating chances and trusting the process will yield the results.

PDO will always be part of the game but apart from sticking a horseshoe up your ass, you can't control luck. Last night was an example of an even game where it could have gone either way. The goal is tilt the ice in your favor and create data driven results, instead of praying to the PDO gods.

I'd love to hear the alternative and argument for ignoring what the data is telling you? Is your plan to yell at your forwards to shoot the puck better?

Also just saw this:

Interesting, Button's usually such a weirdo about this stuff, but Alex Tuch is an excellent target for this team.

Your goaltending standards are too low my friend..
for Skinner? nah, he isn't Hasek and I know it

fine by me, gonna need to be able to fit him under the cap and hope he doesn't choke like Hellebuyck in big games

If Tuch's actually available, he would be a massive add to the team. I would run a Skinner-Draisaitl-Tuch line given how Skinner has developed some chemistry with Draisaitl and already knows Tuch.
I didn't realize he's 6'4", he's got almost 20-20 in 54 games, and his fancies are amazing on a terrible Sabres team.

Maybe find a way to have Buffalo eat a little bit too, oh that would be perfect.

Yet still a playoff 894 sv%.
well, he said .900 is hard, and since we're talking the context of Game 7 he had over .900 and a bunch of other times in the last 2 series. He was largely shit in the first two series hence the lower save pct.
As has been said, he's an inconsistent goalie as those stats bear out but he did come up big in some of the big games which some (not you) refuse to give him credit for.

So if you aren't arguing that Skinner is great, what exactly are you arguing? It feels like you are arguing for the sake of having an argument.

He's a 1B at best. That's where he should be. Not sure why posters are trying to defend him by saying he's more than that while bringing in .900 stats. Bring in a real starter and it'll make life easier for everyone

This is what happens when the guys you sign who should be your obvious whipping boys are:
Rugged and playthegametherightway (Connor Brown)
Too cute/skilled to hate (Jeff Skinner)
Weirdly play way too well (Corey Perry)
Are Swedish (Viktor Arvidsson)

What we really need is a no talent no speed kinda guy on a bloated or long contract who has no business playing in the NHL.

They gotta call up Josh Brown for the fans

This is where you would be massively wrong. Fans generally use these stats to satisfy their own bias, not to quantify.
Rarely are they interpreted properly or objectively. These stats when also represented in a vacuum (which happens 99.9% of the time), end up being highly influential in public opinion and sway common sense, logic and facts(see JFresh)

Look no further than this teams Marancin, Yak and JP to name a few. Or remember when this fanbase was convinced Hamonic was as good as Hedman and Seabrook b/c 5v5? Simply cuz it made him more appealing to acquire?

Currently these "stats" are being used to "quantify" goaltending. Goaltending is the hot topic nowadays, just like center depth was the trump card in years prior, speed before that, and size before that.

People use these these stats to omit all sorts of truths. A great example would be Skinner in the month of January. Despite being a major factor in 5 wins that month, it was all ignored and argued that he was terrible infact...cuz the so called "stats" say so....or quantified

We're just talking about Game 7 though. They put up a zero in that game and are paid incredibly well to come up big in those moments so it's fair to call them out for not showing up in a Game 7 (Drai could barely skate so it's understandable). This doesn't mean that they didn't carry the Oilers to that point or to imply that Skinner did but if we're just talking Game 7 against Florida, they didn't rise in the moment.
It can also be stated that Skinner should have had the Reinhart goal but generally when you give up 2 goals, you're giving your team a chance even in a tight checking Game 7.
This does not imply that a poster is Skinner's mom or relative just because they dare say that he's not utter garbage.
The very real problem is that we should not be talking about game 7 anymore and I’m not sure why people are focused on that when Skinner has been truly awful this season.
