The double standard here is hilarious. Binningtons performance tonight was actually a carbon copy of what we see pretty regularly from Skinner. That first goal, many around here would be losing their minds if Skinner gave up a flutterer like that. Binnington was constantly losing his net and giving up juicy rebounds all night long.

We’ve seen so many times where Skinner gives up a weak one early, looks shaky but is mostly solid as the game goes on. That was a Skinner-esque performance if I’ve ever seen one.

It’s actually hilarious to see morons holding up Binnington as some god in order to trash Skinner, when if any one of those bobbles around the crease would of ended up in Canadas net the same people would be cursing Binnington as trash.
can you imagine if Skinner was in net today? give it a rest, Stuart's brother. nobody's with you

I don’t disagree that the team loses if Skinner was in net tonight. I’m pointing out the hypocrisy of dummies who have been trashing Binnington this entire tournament including this game right up until he makes 2-3 saves at the end, and then instantly storm in here to hold it up as proof of how bad Skinner is even though Binnington looked a lot like Skinner most of the game.

That’s the thing, I’m not defending Skinner, I understand what he is. I’m pointing out how dumb people like you are making yourselves look.

I don't even think Binnington looked bad at any point in this game really, the first goal maybe he could've had, but not sure what you're seeing on that second one. Skinner takes shit because he can't elevate his game like that kind of ability separates winners from losers.

The idea here that "well we have Connor McDavid, so we should just be gift wrapped a Cup" is a dumb line of logic, tonight showed that yes, even Connor McDavid needs help because Canada should have probably lost that game a few minutes earlier, instead Binnington keeps them in the game and that gave McDavid a chance to win the game even on a night where he wasn't very good.

Binnington was swimming at times tonight. The difference between him and Skinner is he has a much higher chance of locking the f*** in at some point.

I’m not surprised you thought he looked good tonight.

He was way too aggressive in his reads, constantly sliding out of position. Got caught wandering a few times and almost cost them. He was lost any time there was a scramble in front of the net and the Americans knew it which is why they kept attacking by throwing pucks and bodies into that area where he struggled to find the puck. He looked like his gear was made out of bouncy ball material, couldn’t hang onto pucks to save his life.

Look, I give him a ton of credit for bearing down and keeping pucks out at the end (even though the save everyone will remeber was a no angle shot from Brady that wasnt even on net) but let’s be realistic here, he looked shaky most of the game, he was all over the place and the fact is it’s a knife’s edge between being a saviour or getting trashed. That’s my whole point, if he doesn’t get repeatedly lucky and one of those dribblers he couldn’t find around the net goes in, no ot and it’s a different outcome and people are eviscerating him.

Are you blind? Binnington came in clutch

Or do you love low standards

This guy has a love fest for him.

He must love shi**Y standards

Binnington has a higher floor than Skinner, Skinner at his low is the worst goalie in the league.

Skinner does lock in pretty often after letting in like 3 goals on 10 shots. But Binnington has demonstrated a higher ceiling. He can raise his level and be the hero, Skinner has not been capable of doing that yet, never really had that athletic ability that Binnington has either.

Binnington has had long stretches of poor play though. We can and should do better than both imo.

To be fair that "no angle shot" was going cross crease to a wide open USA player who it easily could have gone off his shin pad and in.

I didn't like Binnington's game in this tournament and think there's better options, but he locked in and was a big reason why Canada won this game after they tied it up.

The problem with your theory is that just because Skinner’s and Binnington’s lows are similar doesn’t mean their highs are similar too. We are talking about one guy who is a Stanley cup winner and just put on a clinic in overtime in best on best hockey vs a guy who has never once shown he can do that.

Someone looks dumb. But it’s usually the guy in the room with the weird take that nobody else agrees with…

The difference is if Skinner is in net is we lose. USA had the game, Binnington took it over when he had to and that bought us the time we needed for McDavid to break loose.

Binnington, like Skinner in Game 7, only gave up 2 goals...the difference being Canada managed to score a tying goal down 2-1 in a Championship game against an elite goalie...something the Oilers failed to do

Love him or hate him, but Binnington stole that game for Canada in OT.

I'm fairly neutral on Skinner, but when was the last time the Oilers had a goalie who stole games like that

Shades of game 1 in the SCF with Bobrovsky absolutely stonewalling the Oilers.
I'm neutral on Skinner also, but two things Bennington has him beat on are:

- Pure athleticism. Gives him a higher ceiling.
- Character/Poise.

Based on Mcdavid's post game, if he was the manger we'd be getting Binnington

No way Florida trades Bennett. Only way we getting him is he signs here in the offseason.

I've said this before, Binnington's lows are as low as Stuart, but his ceiling is much higher than Stuart. Canada loses this game with Stuart in net
