Man I don’t know what info NHL Sid puts into fans heads but Oleksiak is not a top 4 defender and since when has he ever proven he can make a great first pass? He’s no puckmover and never has been.
See, you do this all the time. The actual data disagrees with you. I didn’t think he was either, but clearly I can’t see everything that goes on and I clearly had a bias. The data says he is. I’m going to believe the data.

Agreed, Oleksiak looks like the obvious choice. Not much else on that list should be attractive to the Oilers. Oleksiak also has another year at 4.6 so he does provide some cost certainty and is in line with the Oilers strategy of targeting players who aren’t true rentals.

I would probably add Dumoulin to the list of defenders the Oilers should be looking at, similar player to Oleksiak.
One name no one talks about is Olli Maatta, not a top 4 guy IMO, but very solid goal suppression numbers and I think could be a good foil to Klingberg if we play Kulak up on the 2nd pair.

Sid actually mentions maatta as a great option, he says that maatta and Emberson would make a great defensive 3rd pair.

I like him as an option too

All right I’ll do the same as you man. I’ll believe the data too lol. I’m not being sarcastic. I do get biased

my main takeaway from this tournament... it would be cool to get Bennett when he hits UFA this summer
For the right price absolutely. We could use the grit he brings and he can be clutch, also isn’t he childhood friends with McDavid?

Bennett - McDavid - Hyman

That could be a good line. He’d probably work pretty well with Draisaitl too, they’d be irritating as hell to play against.

Is Binnington still available? Jesus christ what a performance.

I believe Holland actually had a deal for him when the Oilers were falling apart to start last season, but Binnington killed the deal with his NTC. He had just gotten married and his fiance is from the St. Louis area, they didn't want to move right after settling in as newlyweds.

He did. He nixed the deal.

Yup he had a deal for in November last year. I remember Reid Wilkins and Stauffer talked about it a lot but it was nixed by Binnington.

Maybe they can move now since its been a year?

I honestly wonder if we might start seeing more Canadian players wanting to win in Canada after this? Bennett seems like a proud guy, I'd love to add him to our team.
It definitely makes me look at some players differently. Instead of being a dbag in Vegas or Florida, they’re Canadians. Never really got to see these guys as our guys, as the good guys. So yeah I’m warming up to the idea of Bennett, at the right price of course.

Hopefully this encourages guys to want to play in Canada too

The double standard here is hilarious. Binningtons performance tonight was actually a carbon copy of what we see pretty regularly from Skinner. That first goal, many around here would be losing their minds if Skinner gave up a flutterer like that. Binnington was constantly losing his net and giving up juicy rebounds all night long.

We’ve seen so many times where Skinner gives up a weak one early, looks shaky but is mostly solid as the game goes on. That was a Skinner-esque performance if I’ve ever seen one.

It’s actually hilarious to see morons holding up Binnington as some god in order to trash Skinner, when if any one of those bobbles around the crease would of ended up in Canadas net the same people would be cursing Binnington as trash.

lol you're delusional if you think Skinner could make those saves in OT that Binnington did, and I don't even like that guy.

That's a massive gulf in talent and athletic ability between the two. Canada loses that game with Skinner in net, no doubt about it.

Did I say anything about Skinner playing for Canada?

Talk about what I said. Did Binnington give up a flutterer early? Did he give up a ton of rebounds and was he sliding out of his net a lot tonight?

Yes, but the difference is a guy like that can elevate their game and grab a game by its throat and take it over because of a higher tier of athletic ability and talent. That's something that even save percentage won't tell you.

There's 0 chance Skinner would've won that game for Canada, he doesn't have that ability.
