Honestly, numbers seem to look very good with Kulak playing with Nurse. I would get an extended look at him instead of Kilngberg and try a bottom D replacement. WOuld save a ton of cap and maybe give us space to look for a Pickard replacement. Who in particular? No idea, but once the trade market opens, we will see what's available.
Also some depth is fine too. People here already said, but Kasparian has been underwhelming, which is to be expected as he was a waver player.
You guys still need to either upgrade the D or Goalie, and considering skinner was serviceable last year goalie less so, and there's not just elite goalies hanging around. Maybe MAF if the wild sucked this year on a rental, but the wild wanna make push so that isn't happening.

Yes...very light.Goal differential is actually an excellent predictor of success.

The Oiler's defense has been so strong this season with solid backchecking and shot suppression if we had a legit starter he would be donning a .915- .920 SP easily and Oilers would be sitting 1st overall. Skinner has been the weakest link on the team, Gibson would be .920 on the Oilers this season

No, the call up is to get a younger skilled player who’s been playing very well some NHL games before the deadline so they can see where he’s at and if he might be able to contribute.
He’s still got 2 years left on his elc after that and could be a very valuable player for the team, highly doubtful they’d even consider trading him at this point unless he was the needed piece for something huge.

Interesting chart.
Kind of matches the eye test. Forwards are pretty suspect outside of McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman, Podkolzin and Perry.
Nuge is meh. Rest are pretty dissapointing.
Nurse has had a decent season. But the chart isn’t really favourable for him. I hope we don’t get the bad Nurse when the playoffs start.
It's tricky because we realistically need 2 more good forwards. Come playoff time there will be a few players unhappy and getting healthy scratched....
If blues are selling we gotta ask about Parayko! I'd move Savoie for him or Carlo as they have term.id only trade Savoie for a good dman with term.

When the McLeod trade went down my first thought is we got a better trade chip.
For me I would want something along the lines of an Ekholm type trade where it is a clear substantive upgrade, the player improves those around them, & is signed for multiple years (or team controlled rights).
Like I think Marchand even in his elder years would help us a lot, but I'd have trouble parting with Savoie for a one and done rental.

Nurse's card mostly comes from playing a lot of non-McDrai minutes. For instance, Ekholm only plays 23% of his 5v5 ice time without McDavid and/or Draisaitl while Nurse plays 55% of his ice time without them.
He ends up with the third line playing the tough matchups/zone starts quite a bit which definitely puts a dent in their and his numbers.

outside the box thinking here, obviously we need an upgrade in net, or at least insurance there with a veteran. the top 4 d market isnt overly strong so i propose trying to get ryan oreilly on a rental, one of the best defensive fwds in the game is like added a top 4 d man, you can play his line with the weaker d pairings to alleviate the pressure in our zone and allow him to take the tough matchups freeing up the 97/29 lines to get weaker comp.

Sure, but that move might be very expensive in season, seems like something that might be easier to wait on with them.
Highly unlikely, those teams are not really in the playoff race. Maybe they won't be sellers necessarily but I can't see either being buyers.
There will be plenty of sellers. San Jose, Seattle, Anaheim probably with impending UFAs in particular, Chicago, Nashville, probably St. Louis, maybe Utah, Buffalo, Philly, Pittsburgh, likely Montreal now.
There's some doom and gloom around here in terms of the market and the Oilers not doing much but there will be opportunities out there if Bowman puts in the work. Feels like some fans and media have a litany of excuses lined up if the Oilers barely do anything at the deadline.

Anything is possible, but if he does well why trade him? Dirt cheap for the next 2 1/2 seasons and a local boy to boot. Trading him means that we probably roll the dice on adding more Skinner or Arvidsson types and we've seen how they've worked out to this point.

I do wonder with the cap going up if it would be better to eventually just target a legitimate 2C and then just play McDavid and Draisaitl together. Obviously it wouldn’t happen this year. But they obviously want to play together. It would solve the problem of trying to find wingers for them. I wonder if it would help with line chemistry because the lines wouldn’t be continuously blended.

Yeah, reading that it looks like Oleksiak is the obvious choice.
Rush defense, puck retrievals and outlet passing is what works best beside Nurse, IMO, and Oleksiak looks like the clear winner in all three of those things on there.
No it isn't. Its to see if he can handle top six time. If he can't he'll get sent back down. He's untouchable unless he can get us someone like Rantanen or an Ekholm level defender
