lol the other reason is most teams aren't stupid enough to leave goaltending until a trade deadline to figure out. Most Cup winners have a good goalie in place long before the freaking trade deadline before what is supposed to be a Cup run.

Blackwood and Wedgewood's doing relatively well in Colorado imo. Their former goalies in Georgiev and Annunen were simply not getting it done. Reminds me of our current duo if anything. As a result, the avs management decided to change things up. I can respect that as an opposing fan. Staying pat while potentially keeping our current tandem would be just bad when a lot of the metrics in the advanced stats show this team is top or elite among the league outside of poor goaltending.

I have a horrible feeling management has already decided to sacrifice our postseason to address the goaltending in the summer.

This would have complicated consequences ....and potentially enforce a new direction. Stan doesn;t have the balls to make that TRADE successfully and even though im not a JJ fan even he would realize this.

Generally most contenders have their goaltending shit figured out longer before hand. Very few contenders are ever looking for a goalie at the trade deadline because they make their move on the position beforehand.

I think Gibson is very much a Roloson tier talent if not better. Before freaking Eakins (who would tank most goalies in a rebuild), many people looked at Gibson as a top 3-5 goalie in the league period.

Not if they are professionals.
Players dont decide not play a system because the goalie is struggling.

As I have said previously...if this team did have an all star goalie it would only temporarily mask other issues.

Anyone that thinks goaltending is going to solve everything is going to be very disapppointed.
Other things need to change as well.

For example...I dont even like the way this team is built. They gave up speed (and some size in Holloway) and committed to players that make them older a little smaller and slower.

That IMO will be an issue when the big boy (and tighter defensive) hockey starts in the spring.
Offensive chances will be less and the fight for puck possession and creating open ice with body position (against big body teams) are not strengths of this team the way it is currently built.

The concerns about Gibson are rightfully his injuries issues but yeah, I'd happily have him here in a heart beat. Eakins as a coach is utter dog shit, but the one they have right now is pretty bad too from what I've seen and heard. Imagine thinking Mason McTavish is a '3rd line player.

Get this team a proper goalie, and I'll be happy. Whether its Gibson or Vejmelka.

Dallas Eakins is the worst defensive coach I have ever witnessed, our GA in the Taylor Hall era was declining and moving in a positive direction under Renney and Krueger until he came here and completely destroyed the team.

I take Gibson's career going sideways because of the Eakins era with a massive side of salt. I don't think any goalie would hold up in that situation over multiple years.

Yup, they set the record for most 50 shots against games in a month I believe, or it was like something that hadn't happened in the NHL since like the 1930s or something as I recall. Total gong show of a coach.

Eakins talks a big game, but man oh man are his defensive "smartest person in the room" systems horrific.

The whole "Decade Of Darkness" is really only that because of Eakins. Before that the rebuild in the Hall era was actually going OK. Like not ahead of schedule, but the team was getting better every year until Eakins got here and pushed us into another scorched earth rebuild.

Note that Dubnyk played under some of the worst Oilers teams of all time, and one of the worst coaches of the post lockout era

lol, pure ridiculousness. The Oilers D system behind Coffey/Knob is legit, if it wasn't they would have lost in any one of the first 3 rounds ... you think they won any playoff round last year playing run n' gun hockey?

Go look at the last 3-4 games of every playoff series, the system we have here choked the life out of every team's offense, even Florida barely scored 2 goals per game in the last 4 games of the Cup Final.

Aiden Hill was never acquired to be THE goalie for the VGK. He was acquired b/c of injuries. VGK had absolutely NO INTEREST in Hill or forsight he was that good

Col also got goaltending cuz they were losing games upon games directly b/c of goaltending

Idk how the bolded doesn't relate to the Oilers personally. I'm not saying every loss has been primarily on the goaltending this season as there's been numerous gaffes from the defense and offense alike, but the goaltending has been by far the Achilles heel of this team.

You cannot go into the post season having these two goalies who are literally in the bottom.

Goaltending aside (because I agree with you) forward is a way bigger need than defence. You don't sign Klingberg to 1.8 if he isn't going to be a regular.

Management will also see it this way when we trade for a starting forward over a starting defensemen so laugh all you want.

I posted it over in the PGT, but the Oilers have gotten -0.90 GSAA/60 goaltending against the top two teams in every division this season.

That is "take the worst goalie in the league and make him 15% worse" levels of goaltending.

The Oilers also have zero Stanley Cups and 1 lousy Finals appearance despite having the best player since Mario for 10 years. And another Malkin-tier player to go with that.

And a big part of the reason for that is they won't take goaltending seriously.

The difference between Crosby era Penguins and McDavid's time in Edmonton is plainly obvious for anyone to see. Sid won multiple Cups because he had fantastic goaltending, the Oilers are too stupid to give McDavid any.
