Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | Savoie Gets an Audition With the Trade Deadline Looming

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Our current deadline space is 5163894.
Kanes contract is 512500. So we have gained like nothing.
We gained nothing because we signed Klingberg who took everything we had.
It’s money out/money in and we have no movable cap.
We can move Henrique and Arvidsson which is in “bad taste” and that’s it. Skinner won’t move.

Kane also becomes movable, his NMC expires on Feb. 28th in a few days. His deal was designed to be able to be moved at this very trade deadline.

Stuart+Arvid+Sweetener for Saros

1st+2nd+Sweetener for Rantanen (2nd retention)

Hyman(5.5)-McDavid(12.5)-Rantanen(2.5)
Skinner(3)-Drai(8.5)-Savoie(1)
Pods(1)-RNH(5.125)-Perry(1.5)
Janmark(1.5)-Henrique(3)-Brown(1)
Kapanen(1)

Ekholm(6)-Bouchard(4.9)
Nurse(9.25)-Klingberg(1.8)
Kulak(2.7)-Emberson(1)
Stecher(1)

Saros(5)
Pickard(1)
Deadcap(1.5)

Let's make some trades, change this team up.

First to ANA

TO ANA: Arvidsson, Stetcher, 2025 2nd & a 2027 4th

TO EDM: Trouba (50% retained) & Brett Leason

The team is bigger & tougher, Trouba is suspect, but at $4M on the cap playing as a 4/5 should work better.

TO BOS: Kapanen, Grubbe & 2026 3rd

TO EDM: Fredrick (50% retainted)

Just fits, adds toughness.

To NSH: Pickard and Paul Fisher

To EDM: Justus Annunen

Different goaltender, probably better.

To CAR: Stu Skinner, 2026 2nd and 2027 3rd

To EDM: Kochetkov and Ty Smith (minors)

Finally,

To BUF: Petrov and Joal Maatta

To EDM: Greenway (50% retained)

So now the team looks like

Fredrick - McDavid - Hyman
Skinner - Draisailt - Podkolzin
Greeway - Nuge - Brown
Leason - Henrique - Perry
Janmark, Savoie

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Trouba
Kulak - Emberson
Klingberg, Smith

Kochetkov
Annunen

This all started by the team firing Dustin Schwartz and hiring Kevin Woodley (and his whole goaltender thing) as his replacement.

Scoring might still be tough, but they'll be meaner I assume.
1st trade. That’s not near enough to convince a team to retain 50% for this season and next.

Frederic trade, I like it but don’t know if it’s enough, I feel like he is a bit in demand but you never know.

Annunen trade. Whatever

Kochetkov trade, why does Carolina do it? Why would they purposely downgrade their goalie?

Kane also becomes movable, his NMC expires on Feb. 28th in a few days. His deal was designed to be able to be moved at this very trade deadline.
True but what would the cost be to move that kind of contract and player? How much will it cost us to free up that cap?

Front office needs to start looking bigger at this deadline. Aside from all of the other issues, both Kane and Arvidsson cannot be on the cap next year anyway.

So again this is where you're better off dealing for say John Gibson and as salary has to be sent out anyway.

Again, stop looking at it from hating Stu, and look at it from around the league. Kochetkov hasn't really established himself at the NHL level and hasn't been consistent. Skinner has a stronger track record in the NHL (despite being the worst goalie to ever strap on pads), the Canes get a more established 1B, on a shorter deal, plus assets, that could change to first if it needs to be.

First deal, I think you think Trouba's value, value to the team or cap hit is so dramatic they would have to avoid it, it is not. He's a guy they got as a cap dump, he's only got a year left, and $4M on a non-playoff team is irreverent. Again more can be added to make it work, plus they can flip Arvidsson for assets as well.

Sure, again you can always pay more for Fredrick, but he's a middle-6 forward.

Annunen is cheaper, younger and putting up very good numbers in NSH, worth the bet, especially with the Oilers' desperation.

Totally, and that success as lead the Rangers to greatness? Maybe what the think on the matter is utter nonsense? Maybe there's more of a player there, despite his flaws. Also, the team is buttery and soft, Trouba is not.
It doesn’t matter he can’t defend.

The Rangers are trash but so is Trouba.

Schwartz is shit, but if we added Vasilevsky tomorrow his game wouldn't tank from Schwartz.
But that’s because Vasilevsky would be here for a short time. If he worked with Schwartz for a year- his game would absolutely tank. We’ve seen it throughout Schwartz’ career with Oilers goalies. Look at Talbot- came from the rangers ranked when he got here- decides to work with Allaire in the offseason - has an MVP type season. Next year, works with Schwartz- tanks again

Vasi would come here and hire his own goalie coach like Smith did. Talbot was a backup in NYR. Probably didn't have the big $$ to hire his own goalie coach.

We're probably adding at least one high end prospect to the Nashville deal. Saros has been ugly this year and was mid last season but he's a bona fide star in this league. Even if the Preds asked for O'Reilly + Stu + RV + pick I'd do it, we can't afford not to fix that hole and Saros fills it for years.

This is true. Talbot did go back to Allaire to train the offseason before his MVP type season with the Oilers.

It’s not like each goalie to play with the oilers has his own personal issues- they all share commonalities

Given the state of the team and it's record at the time, I suspect we don't want to know.

Binnington probably saved us from ourselves.

Watch it be Holloway + Broberg + cap dump for Binner was the deal, lol. That would probably actually make sense since they would have wanted our futures and those two were the obvious ones.

Alex Tuch not practicing this morning. Maybe hes on the move?

He got injured in the last game I believe.

I realized something. Probably nothing but Stauffer usually tweets after every game, win or loss. He didn't tweet today

Maybe another new rant will come up soon from Bob like this one which got the Oilers previous management to previously trade for a player in Ekholm when both the team and fanbase were rather burnt out while waiting for Ken Holland to make a f***ing good trade. This time, Bob should rant in order for the Oilers to trade for a better goalie.

If this weekend didn't convince you that the Oilers need a goaltending upgrade, I dont know what will.

7 against the Caps on 4.5 expected
6 against the Flyers on 3.86 expected

They weren't masterpieces defensively by any definition but it was still horrid

I wouldn't read a damn thing into the games over the weekend. Overreacting to a tiny sample of terrible hockey is how teams get themselves into trouble.

Fortunately for your argument we have a whole season+ sample of evidence that we need to bring in a goalie.

Exactly, the forwards and d will get back on track. The goalies have never been on track this season.

The Oilers got their show ran in both games. They gave up not 1 but 2 2 on 0s vs the Flyers, once while they were on the power play. And quite frankly they've been bad for a few weeks now, it's just that the cracks are starting to show. If anything they were probably lucky to not lose by more. This is where analytics don't tell the whole story. I don't see an advanced stat for "Absolute pizzas thrown up the middle by Bouchard".

You had me in the first half. I would add, though, that the Oilers have looked pretty rough since the last half of January. We aren't talking about just two bad games. They've looked bad since at least the Toronto game. That said, the goaltending has been especially bad in that time, which is saying something given that the starting goalie is sitting at an 898 sv% on one of the best teams in the league.
