Sign Kylington to 1M x 2 years. Trade Ceci so we can free space for Holloway and Broberg. Start Kane so we can have accrued cap space and let him have his surgery during the season. If Kane comes back early we are not going to get screwed over from the cap.

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Kulak
Kylington-Broberg
J. Brown

The whole handiness is overrated.

Go big fishing at the trade deadline
I don't see how you could say handedness is overrated. Both Kulak and Broberg looked notably worse playing on the wrong side. It was a factor on the goal that cost us the cup

I think you have to get Kulak to move to the right side. Broberg is so important to extending the window for this team, he has to develop on his strong side imo.

I'd love to see Broberg on the second unit PP too. I think they'll probably run the second unit a lot more this year, given that they have a ton of guys now that have played on the PP before. Would be great for Broberg to develop some confidence offensively playing with a decent unit.

Not sure where you went with this, or why.
My point is Nuge plays on his weak side for the pp. His point total would probably be better if he played the other side (he needs to turn his body to shoot when on left side).
A right handed shot would be an advantage as would have 2 one- timer threats.
Nugent Hopkins is like the 4th shot option on the PP. He's there as a sure handed puck distributor to move it to primary shot options of McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard. It's his high end processor that's a vital part of this PP with decision making that helps read the ice for defensive weakness.

He's a better shot option when they bring him down from middle blueline into high slot where his shooting angle is best. That's usually when we see the low blocker snipe which is his kill shot. Nugent Hopkins is also about having a smart, defensive aware and responsible forward. to walk the blueline and aid in mitigating breakdowns going the other way. He's often too fine a shooter with flank/wing angle shots aware that missing the next risks a puck going 200 feet the other way (see Warren Foegele for that habit).

It's not about Nuge collecting cookies on the PP. He's often 'the third assist' guy who starts the scoring driven by McDavid or the other elites.

Kulak and Ceci were on ice for the 2nd goal. How was Kulak playing on the wrong side?

Ah yes I got that one wrong but it was an issue in the playoffs ever since we benched Desharnais

If we are bringing in a project there are some RD ones we could focus on.

Well... at this point he would have to win a Stanley Cup and a Norris to improve his bargaining position..

Not sure it matters if it's done this summer or next.
Yeah last season has him in the 9-10m range but I'm not sure it's possible for him to make himself worth any more than that.

Not a bad call for Edmonton to want him to prove last year wasn't a fluke. We already overpaid one dman for that

Less about proving himself than priority setting of some huge team needs that are more pressing. Bouchard is on track to elite top pair d-man status and will get the bank that comes with it. Critically his whole high-end two way game is coming into focus. With RFA with arbitration rights, there is at least some security with this core asset.

He wants to leave no doubt that his contract will start with a 10+. Waiting is the smart move for him.

I like Ekblad Pionk but they’re on contenders. Then you’ve got Larsson, maybe Seattle slips out again. Tough to find a Ceci upgrade on the rental market eh.

Not a ton of options on that list. Doubt any of Ekblad, Burns, Pionk are moved by their clubs and money would be difficult on any of them. Larsson probably isn’t an option if he doesn’t want to return.

Dante Fabbro is my target on that list. He’s been miscast/underused in Nashville but watching him I see a very smart defender who’s entering the prime of his career and in the right situation is on the cusp of establishing himself as a reliable top 4 guy.

Other then that not much else on that list, I don’t mind Borgen as a big, physical defender but not sure if he’s got the ability to consistently handle tougher competition and I don’t know if his transition defending is good enough for our style of play.

A little toughness wouldn't hurt, the PP isn't going to solve all our problems.

The Canucks obviously didn't care about PPs or winning when they resolved to go after McDavid. That's a fanbase which seems to relish in confrontation over hockey.

The series concluded with Oilers victory, and our stars being roughed up to varying degrees. To the delight of the Pravda styled Vancouver press, which riled up Knucklehead Nation. Their greatest desire, to become so mesmerized with rage they can fling poo free of remorse and shame.
I wonder what the odds are that JJ conducts all his candidate interviews and realizes he’s the best choice for GM himself.
Money talks.

Maybe you should start a poll. A series of polls. Pollmageddon. On the state of the GM search. The Draisaitl contract standstill. The cap situation and its implications. Evander Kane...

“Poner believes Draisaitl has been playing “at least 30% below his value” for several seasons. Coming off of a deal that earned him just $8.5 million against the salary cap, it’s obvious why he may think that.”

Sweet. So 8.5M + 30% = 11.05M

Also wtf is this line in that article:

“If things continue to sour, however, it’s not unfair to look just a year down the road to see the Oilers could be right back on the same boat with McDavid.”

Continue to sour? Who the f*** said the situation was sour?

Let's take a look at this claim. Over the last 3 years Nuge has 89 5 vs 5 points. McDavid was in on 27 of those or 30.3% of his points. In that period he played 2097 minutes in total and 902 minutes with McDavid. That is 30.3% of his 5 vs 5 time. Moreover, of the points McDavid was in on 7 were goals scored in which both players assisted on the goal. In those 7 goals Nuge had the primary assist on 5.

Over his career Nuge has typically been in on roughly 70% of the goals scored 5 vs 5 when he is on the ice. After he started playing with McDavid that dropped down substantially. In fact playing with McDavid his IPP over the last three years has been 55.9%.

Aside from this, any argument the Nuge is overpaid seems difficult to back up.
I'm not saying he's overpaid right now. I'm saying if he plays 3C where he realistically should be, he probably would be given spot in the lineup. He's able to produce on L1 thanks to McD and is worth his contract, but I don't think he's an elite top line player.
