Boqvist and Brannstrom are two very interesting names to hit UFA today. Both should be of interest.
Between those two and the talk that the Leafs are either going to move or maybe not even qualifying Liljegren there’s some really interesting buy low options out there. Hopefully Jackson can pick one or two of em up.

I think they could sign Brown, Janmark, Holloway, Broberg, and VD for about $6M. They are in a decent position right now to add more impact players, especially if they move Ceci.
I could see Brown and Janmark asking for at least $1.5 million and maybe up to $2 million of multi year deals. Holloway and Broberg should be cheap 2 year deals IMO. So let's say $3-$4 million for Brown and Janmark combined, $2.5 million for Holloway + Broberg, that's $5.5-$6.5 million for those 4 key players. Vinny probably wants Hakanpaa type money which is $1.5 million. If he really wants to stay he needs to take closer to $1.25 million IMO. That takes us to $6.75-$7.75 million and still needing 4 more forwards so somewhere around $5,183,000-$6,183,000 to get those 4 players which means we could add a $3 million forward if the rest are league minimum types of players. Ideally we shed Ceci's contract and maybe Kulak's too and add a quality RD to try and pull Nurse out of his rough patch. If Henrique wants over $3 million we can't afford him.

Schmidt would be a good bottom pair option.
Debrusk or Heinen under 4 mill would be great as well.

You sign all of them we are still short 3 middle 6 players an an extra skater. And we have what 7.5/8 mill for that? Not a ton. Middle 6 guys go for 3.5-5.5 mill.

Please don't tell me this was what Stauffer was alluding to?
He openly said trade. Friedman mentioned on his 32 thoughts podcast that there were rumors the Oilers asked Kane to waive his NMC. Not sure where that's at, but I think that's what Stauff was referring to.

They clearly tried to move Campbell but he has 2 years left and is an AHL player. Asking a team to eat 15mill in real dollars is a loT.

Buyouts and dead cap suck, keeping Campbell was still dead cap.

This. Keeping Campbell and burying him in the minors means you would have 3.9M x 3 years or 11.7M in dead cap right in the window when we need it most.

A buyout is only 10.5M over 6 years. So it's less money and it being spread out makes it much more manageable.

As I alluded to earlier, trading him with retention wound have cost significant assets and still resulted in 2.5M x 3 years or 7.5M total in dead cap.

Basically, the question is it worth a 1st round pick to save 3M in total cap space in years 4 and 5 with the cap going up? We also get 1.5M in savings next year and pushing it to year 6.

At the end of the day we are spending less on goaltending then we did last year and we have the same 2 nhl goalies.

I would be very disappointed if that is true. Ceci needs to be gone.
