You can with either Ekholm or McDavid though. If Kane can get some games in the season, then you 100% do this. McDavid and Ekholm don't need more game time before the playoffs. They need rest/health before the playoffs.

I think Ekholm missing the rest of the year is the most manageable and out of everyone he might be the one that needs it the most anyways. If it's doable I'd probably do that.

While I largely agree, there's a chemistry issue with this team that needs sorting out before the playoffs especially with Frederic coming back so you don't want to go into the playoffs with so much uncertainty about who fits where so if McDavid and Draisaitl are reasonably healthy enough to play, I think it's important to get some regular season reps with new linemates in.
Ekholm less so because we know he works with Bouchard and Walman will likely be with Nurse by default.

Agreed. Ekholm I think is the most obvious choice to sit for the rest of the year if we are choosing. The reality of the 3 of their injuries is that they might all HAVE to sit for the rest of the year.

Skinner
Mcdavid
Hyman

Frederic
Drai
Arvi

kane
Nuge
Perry

Podz
Henrique
Brown

Those are my lines to start game 1.

Yeah pretty solid lines, I think I would replace Perry with Janmark myself as Janmark has the 3rd highest SH TOI/GP of the forwards, so is needed for specialty teams. Kapanen is also out in this lineup, and he is the 5th highest forward. We need some forwards who can penalty kill, and the two guys getting inserted (Kane and Frederic) don't PK.

Perry has more scoring touch obviously, but he is also slower and that was exposed last playoffs. Perry brings some sand paper, but with the insertion of Kane and Frederic, that offsets that factor.

Yeah I think Perry has a big role to play, but I’m not convinced it’s playing every night.

Look at the Daily Faceoff's top College Free Agents, I wonder if it's any of

Carter King, Sam Strange or Zach Urdahl.

I don't know how NHL ready any of them are, but it could be close in limited time.
A bunch of guys on that list have already signed sadly. King is from Calgary and the other 2 guys are from Wisconsin. It would be great if we could land King and fellow Calgarian and Pioneer, Goalie Matt Davis.

SIGN THE MAN!

Can't wait to fast forward a year to see him signed with another organization and playing well, only because we "believe" in Rodrigue or some superlative nonsense. Only for Rodrigue to fall on his face, which is what happens every time we do this here.

This stupid organization just can't help but get in their own way with goaltending. They're so far gone that it's to the point where you would swear they are deliberately trying to sabotage the position.

Wait until we lose Philp to waivers by next fall. It's happening 100%.

Philp hasn't been anything special after a great camp and a good brief recall earlier in the season. Since then he's been ok but not banging the doors down.
Agreed, but it'll be another fwd we lose for nothing before we can find out what he can be because we don't care about youth

People say this every year about some random 26 year old AHL prospect that the Oilers have and it never happens. Every team has prospects like Philp that they've developed themselves and would rather give ice time to.

I still remember people losing their minds on here when we put Ben Gleason on waivers.

Remember when Gleason outplayed a certain golden child during preseason last year and people were howling when Gleason was sent down.

Every team other than the Oilers that is. The Oilers never want to give players they develop ice time.
