Rumors Proposals Thread Post Deadline Apocalypse 3rd Times A Charm Stu Stu Stupider Management May the Schwartz be with You

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
The problem isn’t that they didn’t get a goalie at the deadline, as the options were just about none. It was the failure in the nine months leading up to that point in getting one.

You don't know that the options were just about none. Just because certain goaltenders weren't moved or weren't talked about being moved doesn't mean they weren't available. Nobody knew Spencer Knight was even available and he was moved.

The organization made it known that goaltending was not a priority and we know they wasted a lot of time trying to get Rantonen. I doubt any genuine attempts were made at even finding out what goaltending options were actually out there.

Point is they’ve needed to upgrade their goaltending for a while now, and there were a lot more available options in the last nine months than there were in the last week.

IMO the problem was not getting a scoring Winger. Have you seen our team? We can't score.

At least Picard showed he can play. Skinner has shown in the past he can also be good enough for stretches.

But our team has the skill to score. They are underperforming. The problem in net is that our goalies can play well, but they just aren't that talented.

In the playoffs, the team will tighten up and the talent will shine through. Last year, guys like Brown and Janmark lifted their games big time. Guys like Kane have done it in the past. Guys like Arvidsson will do so this year.

Or have these guys regressed and we simply lack the team speed to be an effective offensive team.

It's game 66. I think we have to realize there is more to it then "underperforming"

It is possible they have regressed due to age, but equally possible that as they age they pace themselves during the season.

The issue I have with the goaltending is that the talent just isn't there. There is little hope that they are saving something for the playoffs.

But yes, getting a top six scorer would have been nice. It's just that if I'm ranking our problems, goaltending is #1

Well we are running out of games left. I think pacing themselves is a bit of an excuse. Clearly our lack of speed and aging roster is making the games harder on the boys.

We look old, slow, braindead and I think Mcdavid may never win a cup.

Still trying to figure out who this magical goalie was that was available but the oilers did not acquire you guys keep talking about.
We were shouting Blackwood from the roof tops. Give me a break.

How many times does this need to be proven false?

Coaching has become an underrated issue with a team that is massively underperforming its potential

“Fragile team” = Fragile coach

Unless they go deep in the playoffs, I suspect Bowman will bring in his own guy
At least Jackson didn’t give Knoblauch a long-term contract as it’s just 2 2/3 seasons and expires at the end of next year.

An early exit and a hint of a slow start to next season, you just know Bowman is itching to give Q a call.

You think we are a fast team? We are way slower than last year and it shows.

I don't care if certain players have good "Burts" they can't keep it up all game. We may not be slow, but we aren't a fast team and the speed we lost is really hurting us.

Yes.

You don’t have to care about the stats but that doesn’t make them not true.

It does seem odd that us casual fans seem to have a better handle on the team than the experts in charge. Everything seems obvious in hindsight and yet these main issues have been talked about online and backed up with meaningful stats from since before the season began, and being updated throughout. Even the trade targets we pick end up turning out.

And yet the main reason to stick with what we have in net is just that we got to game 7 with this tandem and that they are popular in the room. The most vapid argument possible.

It's like opposite land

Any confidence I had in this management is gone after they said our goaltending is fine even though literally every thing says it isn’t.
They are either blind, stubborn or stupid… or maybe all 3.

Let me put it this way. There are two options, where these older players could either rise to the occasion or they are just aged out. Well, each is an individual, so that means that we are flipping a coin for each one.

Of all the aging top six options some will bomb and be bad, and maybe won't even be on the roster anymore. However, chances are at least a couple of these options will catch fire. That's all we need.

Kane, Nuge, Arvidsson, Skinner, Henrique, Hyman and heck, Perry all have the talent to be scoring threats when the chips are down. Add Frederic too. We need only 2 or 3 of these to be genuine threats. If we get a few rising to the occasion, you can mix in someone like Brown or Podkolzin just to fight for possession on the line and pass the puck.

It's practically inevitable that this problem will solve itself.

I'm not as confident about the goalies. My big hope there is that the team does so well that the goalies can come along for the ride

based on what?

Wonder what the plan is to get rid of Arvidsson, Henrique, Kane in the off-season.

You can't just keep buying out everyone.

I've been a hockey fan for so long, and this pattern has repeated over and over. The veteran teams over perform. The veteran players will empty the tank, and their teams benefit from their superior experience and hockey sense.

And sure, maybe Arvidsson bombs. But guys like Arvidsson will show up. That's Kane, Hyman, Skinner, etc.

Save us, Derek!
I bet he will. Honestly he could be great in the playoffs too. With him though, just limit his GP and TOI. We have tons of players now. Rotate the old guys

Coming off of a Cup final, Stu should have gotten even better this year, like Aiden Hill did. Instead he regressed severely. Blame the defence all you want but when he constantly lets in muffin shots from distance without being screened, there are problems. If I was a defenseman with Stu in net, I'd be constantly worried that any mistake I make cannot be saved and if I dont make mistakes, he will let in bad goals anyway. Kinda hard to play for a goalie who simply isn't good enough to be a starter.
