Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | Post Deadline Apocalypse: 3rd Time's a Charm? Stu, Stu, Stupider Management, May the Schwartz Be With You!

  • HFBoards is doing server maintenance Thursday March 13th at 9 AM GMT 5 AM EDT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
if that was the case, then i kind of get the non move. Talbot would of needed double retention to fit under our cap, and he has one more year left, so easier said than done.
It's only 1.5 million extra if Pickard goes the other way. We do have some cap space too, especially if we send someone else down. I'd say we could have tried for retention but we wouldn't need double retention.

I wonder if Chicago would trade Soderblom now that they have Knight.

Although this is kind of torture considering there is nothing to be done now. I'm puzzled why Bowman didn't do anything there. There have been teams in the past with two solid goalies who nabbed another just for injury insurance. We have no depth and question marks with our main guys. Did Bowman not trade for a goalie just to protect our goalies' egos or something?

Has any rumors come out about edmonton atleast trying for a goalie at the deadline?

Or what was ducks ask for Gibson?

People talking about Bouchard being moved this summer??? Possibly for a goalie? Whose available?

We don't know the ask but he has a NMC and said he wanted to be traded to either Edmonton or Carolina (if rumors were true)

I would understand passing on someone with a 6 million cap hit with term, but it would have been a move I would fully support. It would take a clever and bold GM to pull off

The fact no real goalies moved at the deadline tells ya how that either there were no goalies available or the price was too high

Edmonton amongst this list of cities like:

Apparently Verbeek is trying to hit the ball out of the park with a Gibson deal. If he doesn’t lower his ask he’s going to be left with an expensive backup.

Oilers going for Rantanen and adding Walman might just mean Bouchard is on the trade list. So I could see the Oilers trying to sign Marner and getting a younger and cheaper Dman and other assets for Bouchard.

With that said I can also see the Oilers signing Bouchard to 8M x 2 years.

No thanks. The Oilers priorities in the offseason should be the following:
  1. Get a goalie
  2. Sign McDavid + RFAs
  3. Everything else

i dont think Chicago wants to trade him, I think they see Knight and Soderblom as their potential tandem, hopefully for the next 8 to 10 years. Seriously though, what would/could of the Oilers traded fro Soderblom that would of made it worth it to the Hawks? Goalies rarely get you a high return, no sense in moving one, unless its a considreable overpay.

They’ll most likely have to trade one of them once the tandem gets too expensive but that’s anytime soon.

Bouchard is not going anywhere. He's getting signed back up. No fool would through away a top young Dman after one meh to bad season. Only Chiarelli would do something stupid like that

Bouchard is going nowhere so people need to quit dreaming about running one of our top young players out of town.

Only rumour for goalie was Gibson and also, during the deadline, Stauffer said that if goaltending fails this year, there will be large questions in net during the Summer

Bouchard has made his own possible future anybody’s guess.

His defense has been terrible and his offense has declined.

If we do trade him it would have to be for another right d with some ability.

Depends who’s available. If Pastrnak is available and Bouchard on his own can get it done, I would hope the Oilers entertain that trade. Do another trade for Erik Karlsson at 50%

if they stick with a 50/50 split (41 starts each avg.) - maybe that will keep the $$$ down. But, you're right, good possibility that happens eventually, which in the end, would be a good thing for the Hawks, it means they both played well. I wish Edmonton was in the position. If Skinner doesn't have a bounce back year next year, and is at this level or worse, I don't see him staying with the Oil.

if Bouch does move on, this team is going to need a very good right handed, puck moving D, who at the very least, can play top 4 minutes, top pairing minutes would be ideal.

This summer is about the following, in order of importance/my preference.

1) Extend McDavid, hoping for 15 or less, but would pay up to 17, probably more if they had to.

2) Fix goaltending, obviously in the NHL, and in the AHL/system. I like Michael Diepietro for the AHL/to fight in camp against Picks and Stu and whoever else we get. Ideally they need a guy who is better than Stu, and will be the 1A to Stu's 1B, if he is still here. They should look at new goaltending scouts, coaches, everything. Look at other team's goalie depth, try and steal 1 or 2 from elsewhere. I don't feel there is anyone in the Oiler's system, at least, no one who is close.

3)Figure out RFAs before July 1, not after. The pending RFAs are...

Bouch, Emberson, Regula, Philip, and a few others from Bako.

The decision wiht Bouchard is huge and the most important. Emberson is also a pretty interesting contract this summer.

4)Figure out if you want to resign any of the UFAs, and sign them, so you are ready and have a good plan for day 1 of free agency.

Fredric, Perry, C. Brown, Kapanen, Klingberg, J. Skinner.

I could see all of them NOT coming back, we will see what Fredric looks like, but not a whole lot of guys here who be here in the fall, imo.

5)Look high and low, in Europe, US college hockey, CIS Canadian hockey, major junior, other team's depth list of guys who might available for free or cheap. This team will need to find some, cheap, and effective replacements to fill holes over the next few years, while the majority of cap $$$ goes to the big boys, need as many 1 million-ish, effective players to fill holes all over the line up.

Hopefully this upcoming summer is a short one again, due to a long postseason ru, hopefully with one more win, followed by a better summer by Oilers management, make that, A MUCH BETTER summer.

Feel the D looks pretty solid, so it's at least one top 6 winger, who can actually score. find a starting goalie, and some more depth for the organization. It's gonna be a very important summer for the Oilers, I sure hope Stan Bowman doesn't let us down.

Pagnotta is saying it was Vegas not Edmonton but who knows. That guy is hit or miss.
Elliott Friedman said Vegas as well for the 4th team, and had dropped out the day of the trade

Would you rather Pastrnak or Swayman? Can't imagine either wanting to stay.

Apparently Verbeek is trying to hit the ball out of the park with a Gibson deal. If he doesn’t lower his ask he’s going to be left with an expensive backup.

Anaheim's been trying to give him away for like 3 years. Guessing "hit the ball out of the park" is code for "not having to retain"

The fact no real goalies moved at the deadline tells ya how that either there were no goalies available or the price was too high

I think it's pretty clear by now that none were available. Of the non-playoff teams Vejmelka was the only decent option out there, but then Utah got back into the playoffs hunt thus eliminating the only decent goalie on a non-playoff team.
