I wonder if it was ever a possibility that we put all our chips in and had Boston add Carlo and Marchand to Frederic and Jones. I just think Carlo is what we needed more then Walman.

I think Walman will have a much more positive impact than we realize now. I'm hoping that will push things in a positive direction.
From watching highlights of his, he is an elusive skater and can create separation and space for himself in the O zone. He also has a hammer of a shot and a good stick defensively. The problem is that because we didn't upgrade on G he will need to be Ekholm defensively and Bouchard offensively to help offset the goaltending.

TDL passed like a Holiday nobody celebrates anymore.

Figured this would be the week and the weak it was.

Jones looked good yesterday but so did Kapanen early. You can't tell.

Don't know when Frederic is healthy and don't know how good Walman is. Does he play goal too? D here have to do that.

They (Oilers) need to find a goaltending consultant right now. Stu is going to have a collapse in the playoffs. We know this is going to happen. They need to hire someone now to help
I mean it's almost like we should have a goalie coach for that kind of thing!

I mean could you blame Lupul if this is true? Elisha Cuthbert was something else!

On the topic of mcdavid signing. I wouldn’t just assume he’s for sure 100% staying. It sure seemed that way after he almost won the Cup. But we don’t know what he’s thinking guys. Maybe he thought “we almost won; maybe management gets really serious now”. And then they don’t really improve the team? I could see him getting sick of it, I wouldn’t blame him either.

Don’t be surprised if he doesn’t sign immediately. He might wanna give Bowman a chance to significantly improve the roster in certain areas before he decides.

If we get smoked these playoffs and/or continue to suck for the remainder of the season, I would personally be on the fence if I were him. And nobody give me that “who even has the cap space?” line because any team would make the space so fast it’d make your head spin.

I do think Skinner can still be a salvageable option for playoffs, as long as our team defense and PK shore itself up.

He's hovering just below 0.900 save% while our PK is nearly last and our defense has been ridiculously porous. Now I'm not saying Skinner is a great goalie, I firmly believe he's about average, but an average goalie is enough to win the cup as we've seen many times over the last several years. Don't need a Vezina winner, just need one that's good enough.

Hopefully Walman provides some extra assurance from the back end. I know people are saying they wanted Carlo as he's a better fit (Big shutdown RHD), but I think the ability to move the puck out of the zone cleanly is more valuable to our team structure because frankly it's frustrating watching them try to exit the zone at times. Also an offensive weapon from the blueline not named Bouchard will give opposition ~20 minutes a night of an additional threat. We need more weapons from the point because the forwards sure as hell haven't been able to bury chances.

Frederic should add the gritty forecheck element that we've been missing and hopefully meshes well in the top 6 for goal scoring. I could see him being a hyman-lite addition to the team, Jones looked good (1 game), but even if he just provides more life and energy than the other's in the bottom 6 have been that's a big plus. And hopefully a healthy Kane back during the playoff's will be the last piece, though I don't expect him to be lights out.

All in all the moves do look a bit underwhelming, but this could easily be a case where simple additions allow the rest of the team a little more space, a little more easier minutes and everything just falls into place. Fingers crossed.

And it took what? A historic performance from McDavid to get that far. Looking at him this year I don't think he has it in his tank to do that again. Think he needs a full summer off to relax and train properly.
@Soundwave

Not really. The only thing historic about McDavid's performance was his assist totals. His point totals were pretty much on par with his career average in the playoffs.

The Oilers gambling the entire McDavid era on Stuart Skinner would be like if the Chicago Bulls bet the farm on Dickey Simpkins being Michael Jordan's sidekick and never wavered from it.

I could do without the dancing, but at the end of the day showing some emotion isn't a bad thing. Lighten the room up a bit.
I know people think that kinda stuff doesn’t matter but at the end of the day they’re still playing a game, and I think it’s fair to say that they might be taking it a little too serious this year. All of Holloway, Foegele, McLeod and Desharnais were big “vibe guys” and their replacements are seemingly big business first types. Seems like all three of the guys they brought in might be able to bring that kind of energy to lighten the mood.

If you say so. I'm sure you have good stats to back this up.
Seems like a 19 to 20 min per night shutdown dman who plays top PK minutes.

Oilers defensive coverage could certainly use some shutting down.

Don't know anything about Walman so not going to say much.. Hopefully we scouted him recently and did not go with scouting reports when he was putting up big numbers
@LTIR

For reference the past 3 seasons.

Third pairing usage 5v5.
Slightly above average defensive results.
Miserable offensive results.
Good PK results.

Basically paying for a PK specialist and slightly above average defensively bottom pair D who has no puck moving and no offensive ability.
