What does Bowman trade for first?

I'm voting bottom six forward, because that's probably the least important area to upgrade, so it makes sense. Also, because I anticipate that Bowman will be trying to trade for players that he think will be better here than they are showing on their current teams to help maximize cap space, so trading for a 3rd line winger to help with the 2nd line winger problem feels on brand.

Why on earth would Connor request a trade half way through the season. Also as if a kid like that is just sitting on a nuclear bomb piece of information like that.
Not that I think he asked for a trade, like, at all, but interestingly, Bob Stauffer has talked about how he received a random text on his show's text line in December 2005 from some person claiming that Pronger asked for a trade. He thought it was a troll.

lol.

If Connor demanded a trade while the team was in first place in the division, despite him having a pedestrian season by his standards, coming off a game 7 finals loss, then he can get leave.

Everyone around here is forgetting that this season was going very well until the last small stretch, and a huge reason that the team is in that stretch is because McDavid himself is slumping. Things are not nearly as bad as they seem.
Ya, at the beginning of Feb., I believe this team got to 3rd overall in the standings, and were first in the Pacific. Sure, they weren't dominating, but they were winning most of their games. All while, McDavid, Hyman, RNH, Ekholm, Bouchard, J. Skinner, S. Skinner, Arvidsson, Henrique, C. Brown were all having poor seasons, production wise for sure. All this, and still were as high in the standings, this late in the season, as this team had been in over 30 years. You gotta believe that some of these guys are pacing themselves after a long playoff run last year. They know what it took to get to game 7 of the Finals and what it would take to do it again. This team will be fine when it counts.

I remember way back in the day when Edmontonoilers.com had a message board, someone mentioned that around January/Feburary of that year (2006).

To think a lot of us including me thought JJ cooked during the off season. Unfortunately what he cooked was rotten f***ing meat.

Anyways, I have no more optimism about the oilers trade dead line anymore. Team really needs another goalie, but knowing how f***ing dumb and backwards this management is, they're gonna get a bottom 6 gritty Carrick 2.0 plug and a dman who can play RH or LH. And when they get asked why is that all they could get in a must win cup window, they're gonna use the but but dollar in dollar out/lack of assets excuse.

Too bad we didn't hire Bill Zito. Such an inept organization the Oilers are. Absolutely f***ing joke.

The bolded to me might be the crux in time that prevents the Oilers from ever winning a championship. They opted for the power of friendship and are left with a mess, while Zito's team is gearing up for a third consecutive run to the SCF.

Perfect description or should we say, fools that were handed gold.

Chia is really the worst of them, this guy had McDavid, Draisaitl, a prime Hall and Eberle, Nurse and a treasure chest of picks and just about turned it into dust. Holland, for all his faults, did a commendable job of building it back up after the shitpile Chia left him, Holland's drafting is actually a bit underrated in retrospect, then JJ sort of tore it all down again. Letting Holloway go is the one that's really killing me, I loved that kid, and the Oilers could have had this major bargain for the next 2 years at 2.2m. Major ugh on that one.
Chia, ironically, might have been the best drafter....Jones, Bear and Marino along with McDavid in 2015, Desharnais in 2016, Skinner in 2017, Bouchard, McLeod and Kesselring in 2018...which is pretty good
unfortunately he made the worst trade of the millennium at the 2015 draft by trading TWO top 32 picks for a dude who was already well into "bust" territory with Griffin Reinhart
then followed up by a disaster summer of 2017...then again in 2018

so far, not a single thing JJ has touched has worked out so far

Makes a trade by acquiring Jones (who imo will be better in Florida under Paul Maurice), and then VGK LTIR Tkachuk giving them even more money to spend for the trade deadline.

Us? NMC for you and you and you! STILL can't figure out WTF to do with Kane. And now its yeah well we can't go all in still because we still want to limit ourselves and not find ways to trade for good players, so sorry McDrai, you're gonna be going into the playoffs again with your current two sieves in net along with a new juicy Carrick/Bjugstad 2.0! Good luck!

I agree somewhat but theres also no sign that McDavid game is getting better. If anything, its getting worse. Maybe he will ramp it up. But hard to see this team going far if he doesn’t pick it up.

I think given all the shit then we should gamble on some buy low options. Reichel and Valimaki may not be bad adds.

Spend on a goalie because really then when are you going to have a chance to get a good goalie? Next summer? Who is available? Saros makes 7.74 million a year and Nashville will not retain because it's a long, long term.

Getting Gibson now with Anaheim retaining some (yet still saving a big chunk of cash) is our best bet unless Binnington is available.

It’s ironic you said that because trading and not signing friends of players in the room might have led to chemistry issues with this team…

Carolina game seemed like the beginning of a turn around. No doubt, that stretch out of the four nations tournament is the worst that this team has played in a long, long time. But considering how strong their metrics were for the first 45 games of the year, it seems like something they should be able to pull out of.
The Carolina game seemed like what? That was a game that neither team looked interested in winning. We had a good 2nd and was worse in the other 3 periods. The XGF that game was basically 3-3.
Carolina played awful and for the most part we matched them.
We did have a strong good first half of the season but as the season has gone on and games are more competitive the team can’t handle it. It’s the players ages catching up to them.

So what. Skinner isn't a starting goalie. If we want someone half way decent we are going to have to pay up.

We could have been smart and did what Colorado did (picked up Blackwood for an affordable price of a 2nd round pick) but once again this org insists on being the smartest bozo in the room.
Skinner has been the team's starting goalie for the better part of the last three seasons. Gibson, on the other hand is starting as many games as Pickard this season.

There's no argument for Skinner's play this year from me, but assuming Gibson's short period of improved results extends to a significanly larger role is a frivolous gamble. There's a much larger sample size of poor performance and prone proneness to injury.

As for the Blackwood trade. It wasn't just a 1st. That's a pick, Podkolzin and Skinner, followed by a five year, $5m extension. More risk.

I don't have much faith when the media is already starting their annual 'dollar in dollar out' excuses.

It'll just be for a depth d, and a bottom 6 grit plug followed up with "Well Stan Bowman didn't have much to work with, because his team is up to the cap so they did their best since they're in a dollar in dollar out situation."

The Tkachuk trade might go down as one of the biggest coups ever. Just masterful stuff.

Meanwhile we have the ditherers and waiver wire scroungers around here. Pitiful drafting and scouting....

You know what else is risky? Betting whatever time you have left with McDavid on Stuart f***ing Skinner who is not a starting goalie. He's David Riitich in an Oilers jersey.

Stop being fooled by this fraud. His numbers are down because teams are scouting him more closely.

Same shit since McDavid got drafted.
If the Oilers fail to win a cup with McDrai, they are the absolute most choked franchise in pro sports.

Some interesting and younger names on this list that I don’t think would be too expensive. Emil Heinemen and Noah Cates are real good up and coming 3rd liners. I think them with Donato would make a great third line. Peterka would cost much more but would be a dream playing next to Leon.
I will always be a McLeod truther, one of the best 3Cs in the league even if he doesn’t hit in the playoffs. He’s not coming back but it’s evident in our speed , transition , PK and bottom 6 how much we miss him. He’s was excellent at controlling play. The bottom 6 outside of Perry right now is just skate around, hope you don’t get scored on, and get off.

Its true though.
This team just doesnt have the cap space with Kanes contract in play.

Podz, Skinner and a 2nd is peanuts for an actual starting goalie.
