Whyd he sign that contract thenThis to me suggests Kane, which would explain why the Oilers are looking to move him even though he is going to be back after the start of the playoffs.
Below average yet still better than the previous and next GM. Low bars being set here in Edmonton
Holland actually had them set up decently going into this season. Already had a Cup contending team full of vets but also solid young players with speed and size mixed in and two guys in Holloway and Borberg that could be building blocks and extend a Cup window. Now??? Poof, gone for aging players with declining performance who can't be moved now without attaching assets.
In fairness to JJ and Bowman, contracts like the Nurse and Kane ones not to mention the dead cap of Campbell made the Oilers susceptible to offer sheets but, still.... how do you not match a $2.2m for a bright young player like Holloway who loved it here? Goodness gracious.
Not really in defense of management, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they asked Connor & Leon if they wanted him back and they said no
but i was told Skinner was good and it was only the defence. Or so the media said.Hey it's only one Oiler...lol.
You could get a player like Kostin for less than it would cost to get the Sharks to retain on Kostin. I think that ship has sailed, and he's done nothing in the last two seasons to show that he would be an improvement on anything the Oilers currently have. But sure, if it cost them nothing, I'd be in favour of bringing him back.Basically Jeff Jackson f***ed himself.
Honestly bringing back Kostin now for peanuts would actually make a lot of sense given the handcuffs the front office is in.
He's fast, he hits, he fights, he isn't freaking 34 years old, he has a good shot release, Kane probably has to go out. There's not many options available for cheaper.

It includes waivers. The only way around it is either by scratching the player til they are pissed off enough to waive their clause, or buyout in the offseason.Summer of JJ keeps on giving man lmao, this is almost Chia level bad. In terms of the guys with NMC- threaten to waive them like NY did with Trouba. Or does NMC include waivers/AHL as well?
People change, happens all the time. He wasn't happy last year playing on the third line and he made that known.Whyd he sign that contract then
Oh man. Depending on how this season goes, I’m getting a bit more worried about Mcdavid re-signing than I was before. Great management group we have here.It includes waivers. I think we just disagree on how good Kostin is. I don't think he even gets into the lineup here.No you can't. The cost on Kostin will be virtually nothing, retaining $1 mill at a trade deadline for a 3rd team is like maybe a 4th or 5th round pick.
Teams like the Bruins are going to try and bend us over and take a 1st for Trent Frederic, who probably then bolts in the summer to sign back with a US team.
Yup. And there is chatter that someone has demanded a trade. Honestly wouldn't be surprised to hear it's Connor.Oh man. Depending on how this season goes, I’m getting a bit more worried about Mcdavid re-signing than I was before. Great management group we have here.

I also wouldn't trade for Frederic, but I have no idea who's available.
San Jose has all their retention slots used so we would be adding 2mill in cap for a 4th liner.Basically Jeff Jackson f***ed himself.

I sure hope it's Connor Brown if it's a Connor.Yup. And there is chatter that someone has demanded a trade. Honestly wouldn't be surprised to hear it's Connor.

Why on earth would Connor request a trade half way through the season. Also as if a kid like that is just sitting on a nuclear bomb piece of information like that.Yup. And there is chatter that someone has demanded a trade. Honestly wouldn't be surprised to hear it's Connor.
This is just for February, but this is another major cause for concern IMO. At no point over the last 4 seasons, even during our 2-9-1 start, were the Oilers being outscored and outchanced to this level. This is both a skater+coaching+goaltending issue. I don’t think we’ve been bottom of the league for a stretch in this category since pre- 2020. Lottery level roster stuff.
Carolina game seemed like the beginning of a turn around. No doubt, that stretch out of the four nations tournament is the worst that this team has played in a long, long time. But considering how strong their metrics were for the first 45 games of the year, it seems like something they should be able to pull out of.This is just for February, but this is another major cause for concern IMO. It’s Connor Ungar.I sure hope it's Connor Brown if it's a Connor.
Are you talking about this Connor?Yup. And there is chatter that someone has demanded a trade. Honestly wouldn't be surprised to hear it's Connor.
Frederic is a much better hockey player though. Ultimately what does it matter. Another 4th liner isn’t going to solve any issues, especisllly if it’s not a center.3rd team retains, 1 mill retained at a deadline is peanuts. San Jose themselves probably wants very little for him.
We have a good chance of retaining him too since he seems like he really liked it here, whereas with a Frederic, you're talking about an American player who's played his entire career in the US. Likely he bolts unless we overpay him in the summer.
