What does Bowman trade for first?

Oiler needs far too many.
Oiler assets to trade far too few.
Oiler cap space with Kane non existent.

You get the goalie situation figured out as best as possible, and whatever else can be tackled now you try for it.

Anyone actually thinking Bowman is grabbing a starting goalie is out to lunch.

His history of deadline deals
2011: Added Frolik, Salak, Campoli
3rd liner, toss in and a 7th d
2012: Oduya. Ended up being a solid middle pair guy.
2013: Henrique Karlsson (AHL), Handzus(4th liner)
2014: Rundblad, Brisebois both pretty much nothint
2015: Timonen (7th d) Vermette (3rd liner), Desjardins (4th liner)
2016: Panik, Sekac, Ladd, Matt Fraser, Jay Harrison. So a 3rd liner, nothing, 2nd liner, and more nothing
2017: Jurco, Oduya again

And then after that they weren’t really a playoff team anymore. So in his entire history the best he did was Ladd and Oduya. He has never successfully addressed things midseason. He was king of minor tweaks in their cup years and that’s it. Having big roster flaws is something he has been awful at addressing during the season. Ladd was good for the remaining regular season but had a bad playoffs. So really. Oduya was the best thing they have done.

Bowman has never been a big splash guy so zero reason to expect it.

True but these are significantly different circumstances. He inherited a very young Blackhawks team that was loaded with talent and ended up becoming an actual Cup contender very quickly. Then they stumbled into Corey Crawford as they went along who is a lot better than Stuart Skinner.

There wasn't a lot of pressure on any one season.

Here the situation is different, you have a generational talent and an MVP candidate who later on in their prime years are only care about winning a Cup and winning it now. In particular the generational player has the option of simply not signing next summer if things don't go well in the playoffs.

Bowman better get to work.

This. I'm sick of hearing there is no one out there that is an improvement on Skinner. You can literally throw a dart and find one. Argument #2-losing Skinner is a big risk-what if the new goalie gets hurt- then you don't have a Skinner to rely on...you sure do- his name is Pickard and there is no drop off
Argument 2 is such bs. I mean what if skinner gets hurt… exact same thing. Do they think maybe since he has zero lateral movement or explosiveness that it reduces his risk of injury? Actually, maybe that’s a legit point. Can’t pull a groin if you can’t push hard in the first place 🤣🤣

So no one in management should get held accountable if he was holding us hostage basically?
Ultimately if he’s forcing his way back in the lineup, that’s his decision. You can’t pressure him too much not to otherwise you end up with a Trouba situation in NY. And while the Rangers will eventually recover from the strongarm fiasco because of their location, the Oilers do not have that luxury. All the progress made over the last 8 years in making this a desirable destination for players, it all goes down the drain.

His teammates though, they should definitely be telling him to sit out.

Accountable for what? The guy that brought the guy in is gone. If Kane comes back, it's par the course for his history of self-serving behavior. But you hope the guy has learned his lessons and recognizes that there's nothing to gain by pushing his way back into the lineup.

But if you want to be realistic. He was forced to sit in Game 7 of the Cup Finals in a series that he was deemed healthy. He might have a reason to hold a grudge if he's that petty.

I kinda hope the resolution to the Kane situation isn't just him being traded when his NMC turns into a 16 team list. Ideally, LTIR until playoffs. Who knows how effective he will be, but I'd rather gamble on Kane, than Arvidsson remembering he is a hockey player and not out there to make snow angels.
Wr will get absolutely dummied in the playoffs with out Kanes physicality

I started the day feeling pretty down about the team and now I feel like, as always, many posters here are taking it way too far. Up until this losing streak the team was still playing like an elite team, and the metrics back that up. There's still time for guys to turn it around. A lot of hyperbole going on around here. A lot of the same things we heard before the team went to the Finals last season (team is cooked, can't win with Skinner, would be lucky to make it through two rounds).

There will be changes at the deadline. A few tweaks could get the team going again, no doubt in my mind.
It's a good time for a slump, slumps happen. Hopefully trade deadline gives the team some motivation and a puck me up amd we heat up just in time for another cup run

Definitely seems there is some friction behind the scenes with Kane and the new management group. There were signs of it in the summer when we were getting competing narratives about whether or not Kane would need surgery and he ended up not getting it done until training camp instead of at the beginning of summer.

Kane seems like the stubborn type, and if this pans out, pretty clear he has no intent of backing down this time.

You have to remember, Kane can be a loose cannon. If the Oilers made him sit, don’t think for a second he wouldn’t blow the whistle. The league would investigate, find the Oilers in the wrong, penalize them with draft picks taken away and not just Vegas and Tampa but the league laughs at us again. The Oilers should know better anyways trying to bury a guy on LTIR. The league is going to watch every move they make

If he’s adamant about playing before the season ends, then he has to be traded. Which sucks because he can be effective.

Wasn’t Timonen the equivalent of Ekholm back then? Solid top 4 D who could play on the top pairing too?

I also remember Frolik being decent at the time.

Frolik was good for them. Timonen was nicknamed “The Corpse of Kimo Timonen” for a reason. Dude was done by then. Got carried to a cup, more or less

Might as well complain to the source. This incompetence in management is Chiarelli level. These 2 clowns thought Podkolzin and Arvidsson on Drais wing was the answer.

Absolute stupidity right before your eyes.
It's like how my old man emails our PM every morning with his coffee. He always says, "I know that he doesn't read them, but SOMEONE has to, and I am happy to sufficiently waste their time."

Problem is I could see Kane saying he’s good to go when he’s only 70%. 70% Kane is a liability.

That's not all all what he said. "In theory it's fun to think about it. In practicality probably not as applicable."
That direct quote followed an extensive description of why it's unlikely, beginning with the Oilers not having alot of assets; would lose LTIR space; would worsen the asset pool they have to work with.

And Foegs is trash in the playoffs… you know when it matters.

Let’s revisit this in the spring.
Foegele almost had the same ppg in the playoffs as Arvidsson does in the regular season.
I’d put good money on Foegele having more points in the first round than Arvidsson would have in 3

Does he or does he not disappear in the playoffs? Simple question.

If we wanted the regular season cup I would agree with you.
Arvidsson used to be good. He isn’t anymore.
