You're really only worried about finding someone that can fill that bottom pair LD role or be an upgrade on the options at RD. Kulak is our 4LD on a healthy roster.
It just got me thinking, why the need to fly out for a meeting with McDavid before they’re even supposed to be allowed to talk contract extension? I’m thinking it might actually be Nurse, or (gulp) Bouchard, and they needed to sell Conner on the plan before going ahead. Samuelsson was the 3LD on Buffalo, he would be a solid solid downgrade on Kulak.
I’ll take that bet. I think he plays the year with us. We don’t need Janmark in the lineup every night. He will be here, and already plays the game at a perfect level in terms of defensive responsibility. Never cheats for offence.
Issue with Boeser is he is another one of those forwards who mostly cheats for offence and is completely lost in his own zone. That’s a lot of money to spend on a guy Knoblauch will treat like Skinner. .
Boeser would be an amazing add. Expensive and the cheaper option is Olofsson.
The team isn’t going to waste a year of a 19 year old prospects ELC to rotate him with Janmark.
He doesn’t have anything to learn in junior. As scouts and coaching staff alike mention, his game is perfect. He does nothing wrong and is always on the correct side of the puck. Had an amazing playoffs and is not eligible for the AHL as stated.
If you put Boeser in the RNH spot on the power play, teams wouldn’t be able to key in on Draisaitl as much. I’d be looking to deal Nuge for a legit right handed 3C who could penalty kill if we landed Boeser, although the trade protection he has may end that train of thought. Nuge had been pretty inept at even strength the the past few years too.
Columbus was competitive, but they were not a good defensive team. Though he's not my first choice

Samuelsson played behind Owen Power and Bowen Byram. Of course he was the 3LD. He still managed to play 19 minutes a night, which was on the low end of what he usually plays.

He'll get his chance to make the team, he might get a look in the NHL, and his play will dictate if he sticks or not.
If we’re moving on from Arvidsson and possibly Henrique, our entire bottom 6 is wide open. Henrique also plays wing if he stays.
The last 2 seasons he averaged the 5th most 5v5 minutes. 6th best corsi, 7th shot%, , 6th best xGA.

Okay but playing a 19 year old 50-60 games and mostly 4th line time is not a good development path for a player in the slightest. It’s also an incredible waste of his ELC. This team needs prospects stepping in NHL ready, not guys who will need to learn everything about a pro player and shaking their confidence.
