I have a feeling there’s a big trade in the works. A trade so shocking, Bowman had to fly to Ontario and get McDavid’s personal blessing. Perhaps someone McDavid wouldn’t be happy to see go.

My guess for opening night roster:

RNH/McDavid/Hyman
Mangiapane/Draisaitl/Savoie
Frederic/Roslovic/Kapanen
Kostin/Glass/Brown

Walman/Bouchard
Nurse/Stecher
Kulak/Emberson

Demko
Hart

Oilers add middle six right winger and defenseman at deadline
Court decision won’t be known until July 24.

It would be silly to stay out of the goalie game because you think this might turn in your favour and you can then sign CH - assuming those discussions have theoretically already been had. (I have no issue with a player found not guilty, signing and don’t wish to get into that debate in case some of our resident morality police think I am trying to engage - i wont ).

I just don’t know if it’s wise organizationally to wait until then to fix what is such an obvious problem, that is dependant on a landmark decision.

Teams are going to look at Seth Jones trade and will see if they can get a comparable player in Nurse at a buy low cost. Nurse is definitely tradeable now based on Seth Jones trade and also winning a cup and the fact the cap is increasing

Would not surprise me if teams are calling about Nurse

I see it as low risk as Hart would ultimately be a backup (or even PTO to get up to speed). The primary move would be acquiring Demko/Gibson/other upgrade on Skinner

My guess for opening night roster:

RNH/McDavid/Hyman
Mangiapane/Draisaitl/Savoie
Frederic/Roslovic/Kapanen
Podkolzin/Glass/Brown

Walman/Bouchard
Nurse/Stecher
Kulak/Emberson

Demko
Hart

Average age of bottom 6: 27 years
Oilers add middle six right winger and defenseman at deadline
That’s not a roster that works with the cap.

Also betting your hopes on a goalie who can’t stay healthy and a goalie who hasn’t played a game in over a year and a half and even when he was playing, was only slightly better than Skinner.

That would be swell
Huge, fast, responsible player. From what I saw he’s good with the puck. Him and O’Reilly will both be on the squad if we can’t find the money to sign others.

Blessing in disguise in my opinion. O’Reilly is a lock for my money. Guy is legit and didn’t make mistakes in the O. Can play him anywhere.

I'm not against moving on from Kulak to free up cap, but Dineen is not an NHL defenseman.

The question needs to be, can we move on from Kulak for someone just as good but younger and cheaper?

The answer with the cap inflation so far is a pretty resounding no. The only name that even comes to mind would be Spence but why would the Kings do that?

Also mentioning Perry is worth 2 million dollars lool
19 goals in the regular season and 10 goals in the playoffs. To be honest, someone for sure would be willing to pay that. That's at 39 years of age...
With the cap going up, 2 million is going to be the new 1 million dollar contract.

Looked a bit lost to me when he was up.

His AHL production as a 26 y/o doesn’t scream NHLer to me either.

Asking Bowman to repeat the Ekholm miracle with that lack of presumed assets is a bridge too far.

Unless you're offered an out with regards to Nurse, I think you stand pat back there.

I chuckled a bit too. But then I remember he outperformed all our other wingers in the regular season and playoffs. Even takes over a spot on the top PP. I can see where Perry is coming from if he wants a raise :) The results are far more about some horrid underachieving of the rest of the group though.
Dude, no joke. He had a hell of a year, and I honestly think he can do it again.

Gee if only actual production meant anything. Brown is a number one option to blow 20 scoring chances in a row. One of the worst options to put with the most talented player in hockey. really all of should be fedup by now having clear bottomsix players in topsix in 2025. You know I'm right on that.

Defensive acumen. Brown had the worst pk GA on the team this year.

Brown also had 1 hit/60mins this season. Meaning he's also that guy with zero intangibles. If smart means avoiding any and all contact at any means then yeah.

But today I heard somebody talking about "Playoff Brown" The mythmaking legend never stops. This guy must have his own cheering sections at Rogers Place. ;)
The worst PK GA/60 amongst the forwards was D. Ryan and Arvidsson, Brown's number this season of 9.24 GA/60 is legitimately quite bad, but his prior season of 6.73 is pretty solid, also it shouldn't be overlooked how poorly our goalies underperformed on the PK a lot of guys had a bad season stat wise on the PK cause of that.

Your hit metrics who cares, I know this is a byproduct of Florida winning the toughness war, but I don't know how wise it is to play into their strength, you need some pushback, but if that is all we focus on we'll make some really bad personnel decisions.

You asked what Brown brings to the table before and I'll say he put up 1.7 Pts/60 at even strength (30 points on the season) and if you exclude his post injury season that matches his career average which is 2nd/3rd line tweener level offense at even strength, on top of that he wants to be here, he meshes well with the group, is willing to sign for what sounds like $500K to $1M below his market value, and while we disagree on his PK utility I think he is suited to the role and the coaches that have had him seem to agree.

o’Reilly has less than a 5% chance at making this roster this year. He is only 19 so he doesn’t have a chance to play in the AHL and he did get better as the season went on but it’s still clear he has things to learn at the lower levels. Maybe they give him a 9 game session but they aren’t going to waste a year of his ELC.

I’m in a small minority who likes Merzlikins. He definitely needs that change of scenery. Columbus is floundering and having his buddy pass away basically in his arms from that freak fireworks accident, I’m sure he’d welcome it. He’s been a decent goalie on a pretty bad team, so no shit his stats are going to look terrible (this is the first time in several seasons they finished higher than 6th in their division in several seasons).

He’s not my first target though…I’m going swinging for the fences first. Bowman annoyed Grier for long enough that Grier finally told him he could have Walman if he’d leave him the hell alone after.
He was on a competitive team last year and still put up horrible skinneresque numbers why on earth would that be the answer? If we wound up with him to the goalie question everyone needs to be fired on the spot.
