I’m fine if we bring back none of our UFA’s and try for a younger, faster bottom six but I also think you shouldn’t make to much change to a roster that went to back to back finals. Last year we changed out 33% of our roster and replaced them with older, slower players. There’s probably a good chance we win the Cup this year if we kept our roster almost identical to last years.
Normally I would agree with you, but none of UFAs played a major part. Most were in and out of the lineup (outside of Perry- who was our worst forward based on points per 60 5v5)- so I’m good with bringing none back.

Last year was different. McLeod was a key part of the PK and good 5v5 player. Holloway the same.

I've been thinking about the PK and it worked when Stuart had fast players that forced the PP to make quick plays. Everyone wants to replace the penalty killers but why don't we stop the stupid 1-1-2 and just run a standard box or diamond? It seems like an easier fix, no?
You need crease clearers for that, and only Ekholm is good at that if he’s healthy. 1-1-2 and collapse hides lots of defensive zone deficiencies

I wonder if McDrai don’t win a cup here that at some point they think back and realize that their very close friendship with Nurse may have cost them a cup.
As far as I know they didn't sign him?

Edit: Reality is they could've signed Nurse long term in the 5s and they could've signed Bouchard long term as well. They bridged both to the point where they have no choice but to give them big contracts. Self-inflicted mistakes have cost them big time.

Can someone explain to me why I'm seeing so many posts about trading Henrique away?

Has he not lived up to his role as a $3m, 3rd line center?

What am I missing here

He's 35. We want to get younger and faster. I think the Frederic signing means that the Organization sees him as a 3C (where Rico is currently slotted). Frederic himself said he wants to play center or RW. 3.8M for a 3RW is too expensive IMO, so that means that he might get a chance with Draisaitl on the 2nd line. If thats the case, it would be something like this:

McDavid-Hyman
Draisaitl-Frederic
Henrique-Savoie

It's also a salary cap issue. If you can replace Rico with a 1M player, you get 2M for a top 6 forward and/or a starting goaltender.

No, but their deep friendship is near the top of reasons that is keeping Nurse from even considering waiving his NMC. I mean I don’t blame him, he’s got it pretty good here. And we know that the GM listens when McDrai want a player gone.

Ask yourself why this would make any sense for Anaheim. There is just no way they make this deal. We win it by a landslide.

I guess Skinner to back up Dostal maybe but even then.... They're trading their #1 goaltender for an expensive backup and an over the hill bottom 6 player AND adding cap.
Dostal is their #1

Just heard on the NHL network that in 2009 Martin Biron was very close to signing with the Oilers but they chose Khabibulin over him.

Thought that was interesting.
That was the year that ended his career essentially.

There was a pile of UFA goalies available and he got greedy. Ended left without a chair and signing with the Isles who had already signed the guy Bulin replaced in Roloson.

ideally you can move out all of Henrique, arvidsson and nurse. It won’t be possible though.

???-mcdavid-hyman
???-Draisaitl-???
Rnh-Frederic-Savoie
Podkolzin-Philip/UFA-Tomasek/whoever
Janmark

Ekholm-Bouchard
Walman-???
Kulak-emberson/Stecher

That would be my framework, I can’t see a world in which this happens. Frederic is happening, might as well not ignore the inevitable.

I mean maybe that's something that should be discussed today with Bowman and Jackson meeting McDavid's representatives.

Even still let's magically say next summer McDavid doesn't care if we trade Nurse. Still wouldn't be able to trade him until 27-28 when his NMC drops to NTC

Edit: Somehow I quoted the wrong post of bob's lol. Should've been one before

Been saying it since they acquired Henrique that he should have gotten an extended look in the top 6 on the wing. Guy is a smart player with a great shot but lacks the boots at the centre ice position to make an impact at both ends of the ice.

Very strange they started the 2024 playoffs with him up with Hyman and McDavid, saw immediate success until his injury and then never tried it again
McDavid probably wants faster guys on his line.

Say we get Gibson retained. What about also getting Silovs cheap from Vancouver since they're extending Demko and running a pairing with him and Lankanen next year.

Gibson and Silovs gives us a whole new pair. Gibson gets to be the guy unless he really blows it. Silovs has tons of skill and potential.

Ottawa 4th for Silovs.

In a week, Stuart for Ottawa 4th

At the deadline, Ottawa 4th for Kane with double retention

Why would Nurse waive his NMC to go to a rebuilding team?

Obviously he wouldn't.

This board is going to be hell for the next couple weeks as we have to endure another off-season of a certain segment of posters that believe trading Nurse is achievable.

The black mark of an otherwise exciting off-season chatter
