hey, anything to win an argument.

Draisaitl is just an OT merchant!!
jk aside I'm a bit of a stat hound. Counting numbers anyway.

So that I don't think penalty shot goals, or ENG or 3 on 3 OT goals should be considered same. Should be available in different columns.

3on3 is a bit of a circus.

its relevant too. Look at Rantanen. An appreciable amount of his goals and production is ENP. Really an inordinate amount. he's like a ENP legend.

Trouble with that is teams paying him may get lazy not realizing that 10% of his career scoring or production is ENP. Its a considerable degree of distortion:

just a pet peeve but ENA, ENG, ENP shouldn't be tabulated in regular scoring columns, imo.

They exist in a place where guys can get paid way less money and make the same, they're in a place where the weather is nice and they don't have to give a shit about hockey until it matters.

It's literally apples and oranges.

You do what's best for the Oilers, if you can't then you find someone who will. You can't pretend like things are the same between Edmonton and Florida or you're just lying to yourself about reality.
I’m talking about the brand of hockey, culture, and expectations of each individual. I am in agreement that they can sign players easier than we can.

Yeah. tbh I think people sleep on stats scoring columns for players that are acquired at deadline. Its as if most people just look at season columns not noticing or adding the different team segments.

yeah. Henrique with 24G 51pts just last season. People sleep on it because of the divided columns as if its separate seasons. Which is why I'm mentioning it.

We brought him in as a topsix player, or at least skill and production wise he was that and strangely turned him into a bottomsix player. Which makes even less sense as we had guys like Brown, Pods, Kapanen, Arvid riding topsix. So in otherwords we put waiver wire pumpkins and bottomsix players in topsix while burying Henrique all season and playoffs. Its a headscratcher but also speaks to how good Henrique was in a shutdown role.

Give Henrique Arvids spot this season and he has 20G. I'd bank on it.
He's a great Swiss army knife guy.

Every time I check defensive metrics, deployment and linemates, Henrique comes out looking really good. He upped his hitting for playoffs. He can score when given opportunity. Smart enough that he can work with nearly anyone.

If we had better 3rd line wingers for him to play with, I think he would have produced a lot more and few if any would be suggesting we move him.

Of all the fwds we could move this summer (Kane, arvy, Brown, Perry etc) I think Rico has the potential to be missed the most next year if we can't replace his role for less cap.

I mean I can see the "value" in dumping Brossoit and getting Nurse to eat minutes while the Hawks' kids come long. I don't think much of Gibson overall or of Verbeek as a GM.

I don't think they'll let Frederic walk, because he seems to fit the system well and I suspect he'll be a much better player healthy.

They don't have a ton of extra cap, that's true, but the roster balance is better after these deals imo.
I just don’t think there’s any way Nurse would ever waive to go to Chicago. He loves it here and has a full NMC. Maybe somewhere other than Chicago he’d consider.

My shopping list :

JGPageau - instantly fix 3C (right handed) and PK issues . We were already in on him at deadline.

Saros- miles better fit than Swayman/Gibson

Letang or retained EK to shore up the right side.

minor deals:
Kostin - for cheap
Lukas Reichel to throw Drai a bone.

Wonder if Frederic PKd in BOS. Would be great for him if he did.
Thats a big issue with guys like Kostin etc. If you cant PK and arent in the top 6 then you sit out a lot

I've been thinking about the PK and it worked when Stuart had fast players that forced the PP to make quick plays. Everyone wants to replace the penalty killers but why don't we stop the stupid 1-1-2 and just run a standard box or diamond? It seems like an easier fix, no?

I’d rather have Swayman out of the three. I think he bounces back. Never really understood the Saros hype. I liked him more when he made $5m though.

Would love to see them take a chance on Reichel.

I do think Pageau is on their list to acquire.

Remember the last time we threw Drai a bone and ended up with Mr. Kahun

I’m fine if we bring back none of our UFA’s and try for a younger, faster bottom six but I also think you shouldn’t make to much change to a roster that went to back to back finals. Last year we changed out 33% of our roster and replaced them with older, slower players. There’s probably a good chance we win the Cup this year if we kept our roster almost identical to last years.

Frederic-Glass-Formenton would be a very good third line. I’m salivating thinking about it if Frederic is healthy and Formenton is good to go. Too many ifs perhaps…

I think they are looking at Josh Samanski to fill his spot at center/wing but that's probably a year away. The club thinks he's going to be a good one.

I agree that despite his age, Henrique still has more to offer than a number of the current bottom six wingers.

We can change out that 33% of older slower players though, right? Lol.

I wish we had the space to fill the holes that we have (starting goalie, 2/3 RD, 3C and top six W), but the reality is that unless one or two of those spots are taken from within (Savoie, Akey, Emberson and/or O'Reilly), then its going to be another year of going in with holes we have to find a solution for along the way. In an ideal world, we have our roster basically set, and the deadline ends up being only to make upgrades, and push quality NHL'ers into the pressbox, not making deals to hope for a magic solution to one of the problems.
