Depends on what the rest of the roster looks like. The oilers have about 17M in space right now. Arvidsson is likely gone and same with Henrique. That’s another 7M. So roughly 24M. 10 of that is to Bouchard. 3.8M to Frederic. That’s leaves about 10M. Demko makes 5M. oilers probably also have to move out a left D. Say Kulak at 2.75M. You can round out the roster with cheaper contracts like Glass, Gaudette, Saad, Olaufson, Appleton, Beauvillier. None of these guys were costly last year. If I had my way, I’d bury or move Janmark too
Im sure VAN values Demko a lot higher than a 4th round pick. They would be thinking 4th overall instead of 4th round pick.

Brown beat goalies 3X. Two of his goals were ENG. Tabulations should separate those out. Not the same.

Brown has a total 15Goals here where he beat goalies in 155 regular season games (two full seasons) played here. he ain't been much. He's an ENG legend though.

Brown also is regularly elevated to play with McD. Not for skill or results reasons.
For a team that has such an issue scoring empty netters to close games out, it’s weird that you hold it against him.

Optics possibly. Maybe Canuck management thought there might be fan backlash about bringing in Kane, and didn't want to compound that with making it for Demko. Maybe they wanted additional stuff to do that deal and the Oil didn't want to add anything else?
Either way I think if a deal for Demko was going to happen it would have happened. The fact it didn’t makes that option less likely moving forward in my opinion.

Fair point. I just don’t think Henrique can keep up anymore. I’ve wanted Henrique for years before he finally became an Oiler. He’s always had underrated hands.
Yeah. tbh I think people sleep on stats scoring columns for players that are acquired at deadline. Its as if most people just look at season columns not noticing or adding the different team segments.

yeah. Henrique with 24G 51pts just last season. People sleep on it because of the divided columns as if its separate seasons. Which is why I'm mentioning it.

We brought him in as a topsix player, or at least skill and production wise he was that and strangely turned him into a bottomsix player. Which makes even less sense as we had guys like Brown, Pods, Kapanen, Arvid riding topsix. So in otherwords we put waiver wire pumpkins and bottomsix players in topsix while burying Henrique all season and playoffs. Its a headscratcher but also speaks to how good Henrique was in a shutdown role.

Give Henrique Arvids spot this season and he has 20G. I'd bank on it.

The rest of those names I don't mind, but Saad is completely washed and Olaufson is better on a team like the Sharks, he won't get much icetime in Edmonton, imo, because he can't really play down the lineup.
Olofsson would play top 6 here. That’s how bad our winger depth is again. Difference between him and the options we have now are his shot is one of the best in the league. I mean he shoots it like the best.

There’s a spot for him here. It’s not like putting Skinner or Brown or Arvi out there. He really can score from just about anywhere. We need that bad on this club. Look at Florida ripping pucks from everywhere. Effectively getting to those areas, subprime areas but places you can score nonetheless.

I think the lineup I predict has too many changes to be a real thing, but adding

Glass
Olofsson
Formenton
Savoie
O’Reilly

A few of those guys will change the club. Formenton is a Florida Panther type player. Doesn’t cheat, lightning quick, smart hockey. Knowing this club doesn’t have a hesitancy to sign ‘controversial’ players, we should be all in on him.

I have no issues with Henrique. No one would talking about trading him if he made 2.5M instead of 3. :/

Most want him gone to free up the cap and not due to his play. Would you pick him over Frederic if it came down to it in the end? We only have 4 forwards who make more than Arvidsson and Henrique now with Kane gone.
I prefer younger players with upside, generally, and on that basis answer is Frederic. But we don't know if Fred will completely recover.

I want Arvid gone. I know you didn't ask.;)

Oh, I agree, I was just playing "what if". I think we are after a goalie, but I don't think Vancouver wants Demko on our team. They probably asked for way more from us than they would from other teams.

I don't care what Florida does, just do what the Oilers need.

You might be right on Olofsson (If he come cheap enough), I do really like the idea of adding Glass all around, it will just be interesting to see who else they can add that might out perform their contracts.

I wasn’t saying for the 4th overall pick- I was thinking in another deal. I don’t think Vancouver values him as highly anymore. It would explain the other goalie contract they signed and Silov’s waiting in line. His contract is actually a blocker for them right now

Wonder if Frederic PKd in BOS. Would be great for him if he did.
Thats a big issue with guys like Kostin etc. If you cant PK and arent in the top 6 then you sit out a lot

Here's the deals you need to try and make if you're the Oilers

To ANA: Stu and Henrique

To EDM: Gibson

To CHI: Nurse ($1M retained), Rodrigue and Petrov

To EDM: Murphy and Brossoit

To UTH: Arvidsson

To EDM: 3rd round pick

I think maybe a bit of wishful thinking on the respective Nurse/Gibson deals. But I’ve seen worse haha. Assuming you signed Bouchard to ~$10m that would leave you with around $11m to fill out 3 or 4 (depending on Savoie) middle six forwards and 2 4th liners. That doesn’t include Frederic who I am still hoping against hope the Oilers let walk.

Let’s not forget O’Reilly made a real impact at camp last year. He could be ready. His coaches seem to think so in London.

We have Philp waiting in the wings too. Big, fast, responsible players. We need a few of these guys to step up.

I think O’Reilly makes the team and hopefully Philp too. Would mean one less FA signing. What I don’t want is players like Henrique / Janmark / Arvi / Brown who are at best equally effective as these guys, stunting their potential.

Good clubs are good enough to make the playoffs while giving kids a real look. We have had a very bad track record keeping old vets in the lineup while we cruise to a playoff birth, not knowing what we have in our young guys. Let’s change that.

It’s important to note that we really need a coach or player who can show these guys how to play defensively responsible hockey.

I don’t know why Henrique playing on the top two lines wasn’t tried during the finals. He was consistently amongst the top of the xG charts

I mean I can see the "value" in dumping Brossoit and getting Nurse to eat minutes while the Hawks' kids come long. I don't think much of Gibson overall or of Verbeek as a GM.

I don't think they'll let Frederic walk, because he seems to fit the system well and I suspect he'll be a much better player healthy.

They don't have a ton of extra cap, that's true, but the roster balance is better after these deals imo.

I care a lot about what Florida does. One of the best constructed clubs I can ever think of. Every player defensively responsible and rugged. They showed us dogged effort and attention to detail best pure street hockey skill any day.

I want more players who play the right way, not less. 97 and 29 should make sure they spend this summer watching Barkov, Reinhart, Bennett, and co on how to play on the right side of the puck.

Not if the Oilers wanted to look closer into the injury. Wasn’t Demko looking at procedures done on European soccer players (never done on hockey players)?

They exist in a place where guys can get paid way less money and make the same, they're in a place where the weather is nice and they don't have to give a shit about hockey until it matters.

It's literally apples and oranges.

You do what's best for the Oilers, if you can't then you find someone who will. You can't pretend like things are the same between Edmonton and Florida or you're just lying to yourself about reality.
