Brown scored 13 goals while getting sub 15min TOI average without any PP time, 4 of those goals were game winners. He was even better in the playoffs scoring 5 more.

He also did as good as any other Oiler on the PK so not sure where the hate is coming from.

I just hated his contract last year which bled into his cap hit this year,
Brown beat goalies 3X. Two of his goals were ENG. Tabulations should separate those out. Not the same.

Brown has a total 15Goals here where he beat goalies in 155 regular season games (two full seasons) played here. he ain't been much. He's an ENG legend though.

Brown also is regularly elevated to play with McD. Not for skill or results reasons.

A few things need to go right for us this offseason.

We need Arvi out with no retention. Henrique too. Great work on Kane today.

We need to pull a Florida and make some key acquisitions on players who are fast, hard-nosed, with potential. Guys defensively responsible. Florida’s pro scouting is a master class in this. We need to develop metrics and a department that finds these players too. Cheap contracts and waiver wire guys we see something in that others miss…and a bit of luck.

Sell players on a Cup Final opportunity. Guys like Glass at 1M on a show me are what we need. If the trial ends in time, I’m looking at Formenton. Damn good player who could step in right away and plays very fast, responsible hockey. Put up a near 0.5 ppg before his departure. I loved watching this player.

Olofsson is a guy getting looked past too…can be had cheap and has an insane shot.

Find another RHD. Burns on a Cup chasing minimum league deal, or someone similar. Burns as a placeholder fantasy but we need an upgrade there.

Trade Skinner in package for a better goalie.

Savoie-McDavid-Hyman
RNH-Draisaitl-Olofsson
Frederic-Glass-Formenton
Podkolzin-O’Reilly-Tomasek
Janmark

Ekholm-Bouchard
Walman-Burns
Nurse-Stetcher

Fantasy is Nurse moved somehow…Kulak slots in.

Brown would be fine if he signed again for cheap enough. I suspect he signed his Oiler friendly "cheap" deal this past year though, and will find someone else to pay him more.

If we bring him back, I want a better pk'er brought in as well so we can overhaul our penalty kill.

I did wonder, with the Kane trade, it was a precursor to a Demko trade. Both teams and all parties were pretty amicable. Trade was fair. Maybe the Oilers want to investigate Demko’s injury a bit more before pulling the trigger. This is not a rumour, just a thought I had. Just seemed like both teams would be open to another trade

I've been thinking Olofsson for a few days now. He has some flaws in his game, but he can bring top six scoring ability.

I'm not sure if Formenton would be considered. I could see it for him and Carter Hart. Or neither, depending on how the org feels about the trial.

How are Burns' boots these days? I imagine with his age, he's slower than molasses, but I don't recall focusing in on him much this year.

Then I guess look elsewhere then. If that's going to hold him up, no point in trying to deal with him. Sincerely.
Don’t get me wrong I don t believe Gibson is the right play myself. Unless we have a better backup plan for when he misses 1/4-1/2 a season with injury that is. Just seems like a rock and a hard place as far as getting a goalie goes.

Henrique's contract didn't cost us Broberg and Holloway. Firstly, Ken Holland did by not getting them signed earlier. Then Jeff Jackson doubled down and signed Arvidsson and Skinner, leaving virtually no leftover money, finishing the screwup.
It wasn't just one or two things that costed us Broberg and Holloway. It was a long sequence of blunders. Holland jamming their lineup spots with inferior leech veterans like Henrique, Ryan, Kulak etc played a role. Not communicating with them properly and jerking them around the AHL or healthy scratch pressbox, making them unsure of their future role here also played a role. Holland not signing them mid-season 2023-24 after Jackson told him to did the same. Same for Jackson not firing Holland, or at least taking it into his own hands that same year when it became evident Holland wasn't going to comply. Jackson re-signing Henrique and also signing Arvidsson and Skinner on top of that was the nail in the coffin. And finally, the funeral song, where we blundered and kept these worthless veterans instead of just accepting our mistake, moving out more Henriques and Kulaks and keeping Holloway/Broberg.

If that was the case why wouldn’t they just have gone Kane for Demko? Cap is more or less a wash. I probably would have been happier with that.

Could be, but wouldn't we still have to clear out significant cap space if we brought in Demko?

I don’t think it’s dislike. I like Henrique and he has put up great defensive numbers. The fact remains that he is what, 36? His production has dropped off a cliff, he has gotten slower, and the team as whole, runs out of gas by the time the finals hit because they are the oldest team in the league. His value at 3M isn’t there.
AS per the poll 85% of the posters want Henrique gone so its a little dislike. Every board has stuff like that. The coaching staff like him, the fans not seeing much because of him being buried.

Wish we had him years before. But like I said even 34yr old Henrique put up 24G 51Pt season. Not like he's washed.

Properly used his 51pts just last season doesn't say "off a cliff". Nuge had 47pts this season. Thats a cliff after a 104pt season.

I had Glass, Appleton, Gaudette, Saad, Olaufson, Beauvillier (sp), as some possible cheap options that can put up 12-18 goals in the bottom 6. I don’t buy the need for a top 6 guy as much as I think the team needs bottom 6 scorers when McDavid and Draisaitl are getting checked to hell. Florida had no fear of anyone other 29/97 scoring.

Optics possibly. Maybe Canuck management thought there might be fan backlash about bringing in Kane, and didn't want to compound that with making it for Demko. Maybe they wanted additional stuff to do that deal and the Oil didn't want to add anything else?

One of the biggest disappointments this year to me is that our 3rd line that was supposed to be great this year (based off of last years playoffs) was largely 'blah' at best.

Demko is so enticing. Easily the safest, high ceiling tender available, contract wise. I would way rather him than Swayman or Saros in that regard. At least with Demko, if he sucks you just let him expire next year.

But like, Vancouver knows goalies. If they think he's done, he's probably done.

Fair point. I just don’t think Henrique can keep up anymore. I’ve wanted Henrique for years before he finally became an Oiler. He’s always had underrated hands.

The rest of those names I don't mind, but Saad is completely washed and Olaufson is better on a team like the Sharks, he won't get much icetime in Edmonton, imo, because he can't really play down the lineup.

Is it that we want him gone? Or do we just want an upgrade? I'd be fine with Henrique as 4C, aside from his pay day.

Fans don't even know who they want in net from one minute to the next in Vancouver.

They are essentially waiting to dump on which ever goalie ends up elsewhere and praise the two that they keep

I think I've thrown his name out before, but Brandon Bussi has put up solid numbers in the AHL, he's catches right and he's got good size. As a #3 or to compete for time, might be worth a bet.

Most want him gone to free up the cap and not due to his play. Would you pick him over Frederic if it came down to it in the end? We only have 4 forwards who make more than Arvidsson and Henrique now with Kane gone.

Depends on what the rest of the roster looks like. The oilers have about 17M in space right now. Arvidsson is likely gone and same with Henrique. That’s another 7M. So roughly 24M. 10 of that is to Bouchard. 3.8M to Frederic. That’s leaves about 10M. Demko makes 5M. oilers probably also have to move out a left D. Say Kulak at 2.75M. You can round out the roster with cheaper contracts like Glass, Gaudette, Saad, Olaufson, Appleton, Beauvillier. None of these guys were costly last year. If I had my way, I’d bury or move Janmark too

Some insider executive/scout said back in 2022 that Demko was on a limited hockey lifespan due to hip issues.

Yeah, idk the depth of it at all, but nothing I've heard makes it seem like something he will be able to put in the rearview.

Unfortunate, he was looking like a stud.
