Henrique in the top 6 easy? Then why hasn't he feasted on bottom 6 players? I mean a 0.7PPG top 6 player in Anaheim coming to Edmonton playing the easiest minutes should be scoring left and right. Yet his line was the worst in the playoffs.
I mean, he had Frederic and Brown setting him up…

That’s been my gut feeling. Anaheim wants vets, they’re trying to take a step. Henrique is buddies with those guys and maybe still owns his house down there. Easiest transition from one team to another for him.

It makes the most sense out of any goalie/cap option. I’d still want to throw in another asset for Anaheim to retain 50% because that further maximizes cap space, but even without it Henrique, Stu, ++ is a fine basis for a deal.

What’s the general feeling on the goaltending, think they’ll be:

a) bringing in two new guys and dealing both of what is here now or,

b) move one of Skinner or Pickard and acquire a starter or,

c) acquire two new guys while keeping Pickard and send him to the A?

Both still have another year and Pickard has been a serviceable backup. But giving him the reigns in case they acquire one of Gibson or Demko and the inevitable injury occurs, I’m not sure is the right path forward either (presuming Skinner is the one dealt).

Thinking about it, and I don't think they'll do this, but moving Ekholm is the move. The team got to the Finals without him this year. He's got one year left at 6.5 million, are you re-signing him after this with Walman, Kulak and Nurse all on the left side?

Take that 6.5 million off the roster and now you legitimately have space to add significantly to the forward group. I know it sucks, but like this team with a pretty underwhelming group of forwards and bad goaltending just got to the Finals without him. That's a lot of money to spend on a player that you seemingly don't really need.

I just think they need to reallocate more money to the forward group, especially with the addition of Walman.

Guys you just know the goalie is going to be Gibson.

Medi Chicken hinted at the cap space yesterday didnt he? Lets see what he says at 4 pm today
It just makes too much sense.

He was a goalie I thought of as Price lite when he was young. He had some excellent years but was stuck on a disaster team. I just hope he can find that high level of play again. 31/32 years old is kinda perfect.. Skinner cultists keep saying goalies take a while to develop, well this guy is 5-6 years ahead of Stu, so I guess he’s gonna magically become Bobrovsky a few years ahead of Stu :P

We don't know. That's the key part. Lebrun said the Evander Kane trade was not just freeing cap space for more upgrades, but it's to pay Draisaitl and Frederic's contract, as well as help with some others looking for another contract. Then there is rumors they are looking at numerous different netminders through trade (Swayman, Binnington, Demko, etc.) so it's one of many possibilities. But one things for sure, we are definitely looking at getting a new goaltender.

40 points players. These are the type of players we were dreaming off to play in the bottom 6 and now that we have them, they do much
Ridiculous. Brown was a 30pt player and several seasons removed from anything like 40.

Henrique had 24G 51pts just a year ago. lol Henrique outscored Browns total goal production here last season (all season) in just 20 games.

You: Blame Henrique for not producing more. Sounds reasonable.

disagree. The defense especially the right side needs another 5M per Dman.
Also, Ekholm's cost to Oilers is 6M not 6.5M and all of Kulak, Ekholm and Walman are UFA after next season.

The guy may very well be LTIRd next year based on his injury

Both play on the same team and bottom 6. Brown outscored him. This also coming back from a major knee injury haha

One guy the Oilers are looking to extend and the other one is on the trade block

Here's the deals you need to try and make if you're the Oilers

To ANA: Stu and Henrique

To EDM: Gibson

To CHI: Nurse ($1M retained), Rodrigue and Petrov

To EDM: Murphy and Brossoit

To UTH: Arvidsson

To EDM: 3rd round pick

Ask yourself why this would make any sense for Anaheim. There is just no way they make this deal. We win it by a landslide.

I guess Skinner to back up Dostal maybe but even then.... They're trading their #1 goaltender for an expensive backup and an over the hill bottom 6 player AND adding cap.

Been saying it since they acquired Henrique that he should have gotten an extended look in the top 6 on the wing. Guy is a smart player with a great shot but lacks the boots at the centre ice position to make an impact at both ends of the ice.

Very strange they started the 2024 playoffs with him up with Hyman and McDavid, saw immediate success until his injury and then never tried it again

Why though? They didn't have him this year and they were successful. Next year you have money to sign Walman and Kulak if you want to keep them.

??? What do you mean? Skinner just took a team to the finals twice, he's a young goaltender, Henrique is decent veteran center with alot of history in the organization for their $6.4M goalie who can't really stay healthy and is getting passed in the organization.

Again, if the Ducks wanted more, they should have traded him at the deadline.
