Won’t be shocked if they buy Henrique out.
This board really doesn't like Henrique? I think he's too old now, just saying but there were a lot of players worse than him in regular season and playoffs. Plus he's versatile and can be used in different spots. I think the team hasn't fully realized that as Henrique has a good shot and should get some ozone faceoffs with topsix. I think Drai. That he's rarely used there when we audition anybody is strange to me. Henrique plays best with skill players. We could still get some Corey Perry type stuff spot usage out of him. The guy can score. He's a 300goal NHL scorer that really gets slept on by the Oilers.

Kinda funny to imagine bowman and Jackson working together to fix the biggest priority right now, removing all of Jackson’s bad contracts that he signed less than a year ago.

At least they’re trying to fix it though and not doubling down
Arvidsson is really the only one left, no? Henrique at 3mil isn't really bad at all.

The larger mistake was how Broberg and Holloway went down. Very least Broberg should've been gone at the draft for actual useful assets and Holloway should've be prioritized over those vets he signed/re-signed.

I'd also question why Jackson would've done the McLeod and Bourgault trades. Would've left that up to new management, but it's not like Jackson crippled the team with long term overpaid contracts.

I'm not even saying I'd do it. It is speculative. For some reason, and one of us know for sure the Kostin we briefly had here isn't the same as the one seen more recently who is often invisible.

Imo a big part of his issue is he doesn't play in systems well. Basically the same as Zach Kassian.

He's a bull in a china shop that needs to run around to be effective. The second you try to move him up the lineup and get him to play with structure, he ends up neutering himself.

Toss him out there with Philp and Janmark or Podz and Henrique, and he'll be fine.

Yes Holloway was worth just under 2 with his resume. The Blues paid him just under 3 and it worked out for them. But if you think he was guaranteed to explode the way he did last year you are delusional. Paying unproven guys with a good 30 games is how you end up with contracts like Yammo and Puju got. It bit the Oilers in the ass on this one but history told us it wasn’t guaranteed. Dylan could have singed a one year deal and made even more this year but instead he listened to Broberg and his agent.
Lots of errors and lunacy here to unpack:

  • He makes $2.29m/per for 2 seasons, which the Oilers could have matched. That's what an offer sheet is. The type of beautiful, value contract the Oilers desperately need.
  • We didn't even need him to "explode". That's how cost-effective that contract is. It's fourth line money for a potential star. We should have moved heaven and earth to get it signed even after the RV/Skinner contracts.
  • Paying unproven young guys is actually how you end up with over-performing contracts, talented players, and good teams. You forecast how a player will be going forward and assign a value to them, and then you try to sign/acquire them at or under that value. This is actually the main purpose of a front office. Paying players for what they have already done is how you end up with slow, aging vets that aren't the same player anymore (The Oiler Way)
  • I don't know what your point is in bringing up Yammamoto and Puljujarvi. Other than to show that this organization has no issue giving even larger contracts to players with no size or strength (Yams) or brain or hands (Pulju) 4 things that Holloway has in spades. So yes, they have signed unproven players in the past and it didn't work out. And again I would reiterate, FORECASTING PLAYER PRODUCTION IS THE MAIN PURPOSE OF A FRONT OFFICE and something the Oilers have done a pretty miserable job at.
  • Why in the flying hell should Holloway have signed a cheaper, one year deal at 22? The free market dictated he was worth more. These guys don't all go to sleep wearing Oilers pajamas. Why should he leave money on the table so whatever idiot GM we have at the time can turn around and give it to Nurse and Campbell and a slew of other overpaid garbage? The Blues properly evaluated him, and thus they get to benefit.
  • I'm not going to address your "colluded with Broberg and his agent" comment on account of it being ridiculous nonsense. You also don't know what collusion is.

Yeah but the problem is we need to add to the top of the roster.
I do y think you do. The top isn’t the problem- it’s the lack of production from the bottom. Need someone to score when 97/29 aren’t on the ice. Brown, Janmark, Henrique do not add scoring support

We don’t have a top right now. We have a top line and Draisaitl. Our problem is often we have guys who can put up offence in the bottom lines but they always have to be on the second line cause we don’t have a complete second line. Get Drai real wingers.

I like the player but KK seems to want him strictly as a C. If that’s the case, at 3M, he needs to be the 3C. If the idea is to play Frederic at 3C, Henrique is too pricey as a 4C. Now maybe the idea is to run a Frederic-Henrique-Brown 3rd line? Not sure I like that.

Last year when they still had McLeod, Knob was willing to bounce Henrique around the lineup.

The reason he got locked in is because the Oil had zero other options for the role. Hell, for the last half of the year they used Janamark and Kapanen as centres because they didn't have better options in the system.

I agree. I think he could be a decent winger. I think he could also be a center with some quicker wingers. I am good with moving on from him with a younger body but I think need to have a plan in place to replace him if we do. I don’t think he’s quite the same as Arviddson.

Good post.

Getting Jeff Skinner’s signature on a contract before Holloways was pure incompetence by JJ. There’s really no other way to spin it.

It's freaking hilarious listening to all the Nucks fans right now. There team is a mess. What a bad trade for them..........

We should all be very thankful! Hopefully we spend well this year to rub it in even more!

He’s a 950k player making 3mil. That’s the issue. Too slow for what we’re trying to do.
