Again we all know Nurse is a bad contract. A third line centre is a 3 million dollar cost so Henrique is understandable. Arvidsson had his worst season in his career and Skinner was buried by our coach for reasons unbeknownst to anybody. We tried to add 2 proven 20-30 goal scorers would you have preferred we just signed 4th liners and hoped for the best? It don’t work out doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good strategy after making it to game 7 of the finals and one goal short of OT for the cup.

I would have preferred management signed players that helped the team win rather than lose.

Like Dylan Holloway, for example.

$10.5 for Bouchard, $3.85 for Frederic leaves us with just over $2M. Trading Arvidsson is a necessity, but that only brings us to $6M which is like one top 6 forward. Something else has gotta give.

The org seems to believe Frederic can be a 3C so that would mean bye bye to Henrique as well.

I for one don’t think that is a smart play and we’ll be forced to give up an asset next spring for a real centre, but Henrique’s age and speed are not a fit and neither is his cap hit so it has to happen regardless.

?-Frederic-Brown
Podkolzin-Janmark-Perry
Jones, Kapanen

Lots of choices for 3LW on the market at least (Jeannot?). So long as we don’t anchor ourselves to a risky bet with any amount of term I’m fine playing at the FA casino.

I think I mentioned this before, but Adams in Buffalo said they wouldn't buy out Samuelsson and are looking the trade route(but I think they do because it's pretty cheap for them)

Which would be a boon for this team imo.
Every team is just waiting for Buffalo to buy him out. No one is taking at 4M. His buyout is only 770k. The only downside is Buffalo would only have 1 buyout in the next 7 or so years

So our CURRENT roster is, if the rumors of Frederic’s deal and Arvidssons departure are true.

RNH - McDavid - Hyman
Frederic - Draisaitl - Savoie
Janmark - Henrique - Tomasek
Jones - Philp - Samanski
Marjala

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Stetcher
Walman - Kulak
Emberson

Skinner
Pickard

And that would leave us with 5 mill in cap space.

So that forward group is…extremely bad. Tons of work to do there right now.

Looking at both players, if those team's want cap space, buyouts are an excellent option because the remaining cap hits, though they go multiple years after the contracts are done, are at or below league minimum.

I think it’s a perfectly fine play. Frederic at C is better than Henrique. Put Henrique out to pasture.

Frederic had some amazing seasons in Boston and is in his prime. He will be a big piece next year for us and the org knows that. High ankle sprain is no joke. Remember Draisaitl not being able to skate?

Kostin-Frederic-Kassian would’ve been a sick line.

You CAN win a cup with Nurse as long as he is your number 4 and has a puck moving partner akin to Barrie was on his first year here. But if he’s your number 2 you are not winning.
Issue here is Nurse also wants to be the puck mover himself. This problem results in both D being aggressive and out of position.

IIRC, there was a lot of chatter by the media about how Nurse tries to overcompensate and do a lot to cover his D partner's 'flaws'.

Oh the irony 🤮

Probably Henrique. You can easily fill in the bottom of the roster with 9M. Appleton, Beauvellier (sp), Olaufson, Gaudette, Saad. All could be had for good deals. Knob also needs to move to pairs vs trios. Ie McDavid-Hyman, Nuge-Drai, etc and then fill the gaps.

His unforced icings/60 is league leading along with up ice rushes to nowhere resulting in a dump into the corner with no follow on pressure creating a change of possession and easy controlled zone exit for our opponents/60.
