This is the forward group I’m envisioning. Might be a bit too hopeful because I doubt they move Henrique, but ideally;

RNH - McDavid - Hyman
Egor Sokolov - Draisaitl - Savoie/Tomasek
Frederic - Glass - Brown
Podkolzin - Janmark (Philp) - Jeannot/Kostin

Extra: Perry or Kapanen or Z

X could be someone like Barbashev or Ehlers, Y could be a Glass or Pageau or even Tomasek if Savoie impresses, Z could be Kostin

Fixed it for you!

How about taking a swing at some cheap UFA's for goalie?

First of all if not convicted: Carter Hart

Sloppy seconds: Daniel Vladar, Ville Husso, James Reimer, Anton Forsberg, David Rittich, Cayden Primeau (If not qualified),

Third times a charm: Brandon Bussi, Michael DiPietro, Connor Hughes, Zachary Fucale (Europe), Jakob Allen, Alexander Lyon,

May of fourth be with you: Emil Larmi (Europe), Vladislav Podyapolsky (Europe), Denis Kostin (Europe)

He's a big, RHC with pedigree, who is only 26 years old. He also has a history of some production if given 3rd line minutes. He gets more offensive zone starts, but has really good defensive #'s from what I've seen.

If that's our 12/13 F, I'm ecstatic.

the key stat there is 26 years old. HE is now draft year +8. He had one fair year. Also, the "He is big" does not apply to him as he does not use is size when he played. Nuge plays bigger than he does and goes into the dirty spots

He's had some injury trouble, but produced .5ppg for jersey in 14mpg. He wasn't a fit with whatever Pittsburgh is doing, apparently.

For under 2m, that's a decent, safe buy low bet. At worst, he is a better 4c than Janmark who has potential to grow into the role a bit. It's not unheard of for bigger players, or guys who deal with early injuries, to find their footing in the back half of their 20's.

And Nuge is huge, he also got half as many hits as Glass in 5 more mpg. Idc about the cleanliness of the areas he goes into, as long as it leads to more goals being scored for us than the other guys when he's on the ice.

I’m more worried that he is going to have short sighted opinions on how the team should be built. I have the impression with him that he over values veteran types of players. I think the team needs to get younger. Maybe I am wrong about him. Hopefully he forces the organization into get a legitimate goaltender though.
Yeah, I tend to agree. I think JJ/Bowman were partially forced into parting with Broberg and Holloway for Skinner and Arvidsson because of the pressure from the core guys to win now and also I remember the talk of the core guys not being happy with Broberg and Holloway for taking the offer sheets over wanting to be here. Who knows if there's any validity to that but it's at least noteworthy.

With that said, it's up to the GM ultimately to make the right decisions and the right decision this offseason is to get younger and faster. I don't know about the "faster" part but at least they had the right idea with bringing a guy like Frederic in and looking to keep him here for a while. I wouldn't do 8 years with him but I get the rationale because his skillset is valuable and he's at the right age.

If you think these players are comparable, it's a you issue. Kostin could hardly be trusted with 7 mins and Frederic played shutdown minutes in Boston, he has 100X the hockey IQ of Kostin
His stats do not support your argument.

Playoffs: GP: 12

3 - 2 - 5 +2 9 PIM

He even had a game winner. Salary is why he left.

Not getting the love in with Glass. As of right now on a good team he is 12/13 FWD
If you watch Glass you'd know there's many roles on the team

I don't think you have this right... Fred is being signed long term to fight Tomasek for the 3C/2RW spot, I also think Perry and Kap will sub in for each other depending on what we need (speed vs grit). If we can move Arvy/Henrique, it would be smart to also move on from Janmark if we can, so I would go more like this:

RNH - McDavid - Hyman
X - Draisaitl - Frederick/Tomasek
Podkolzin - Frederick/Tomasek - Brown
Savoie/O'Reilly/FA PKer - Y- Kapanen/Perry
Kapanen/Perry

X= Sniper for Drai - Ehlers would be a dream and could also quarterback the second pp unit
Y= Big hitting Right handed centre that can kill penalties and take some of Drai's defensive zone draws (tomasek or frederick will also do this) - Glass or Pageau would be excellent.

NO MORE ONE TRICK PONY's - aka Jeff Skinner. If you can't bring at least two key skills (scoring, pk, hitting, faceoffs, chippiness, etc), then you can't sign here. If you don't have an NHL level secondary skill if your primary skill gets shut down, then sign with a team that isn't chasing the cup. We need multi-dimensional players.

Ekholm is my favorite. But he's old coming off two serious, separate but interconnected injuries, where he wasn't given time to properly heal. He won't start the season at 100%.

Don't count on Ekholm being more than a #4 next season or beyond. Truth be told Ekholm fills the spot that Kulak, in no way, shape, or form belongs. On the second pairing.

Kulak must be on the bottom pairing, hopefully with someone at least his equal. Can Emberson be that player? I doubt it.

Ekholm needs to be on the second pairing, hopefully with someone at least his equal. I believe we have that player in Walman. Walman is miles beyond Kulak in ability.

So who plays with Bouchard? I think you know the player I envisioned playing there for a long time when this day came. He's gone.

So we are short one first pairing defenceman and one third pairing defenceman in my estimation.

We need goaltending or McDavid could bolt but I believe we must focus on defense before we look to add up front. That's the strategy for success.

Notice I didn't include Nurse. Moving Nurse would open up some options and you might get something in the range that Chicago got for Seth Jones.
I'm going to ask you for the 30th time why do you keep saying the defence is more important than the forward core. We need speed and top 6 Wingers.

You think Podklozin and Perry are good top 6 wingers with an aging Nuge and an aging/injured Hyman.

Please tell me why D is so much more important............

Just because he had a good run in a short sample size a couple years ago doesn’t mean we can ignore what he’s done since.
He referred to that exact time in his post as Kostin being horrible. The stats refuted his statement.

I'm not sure what your reply has to do with said conversation.

Interesting, I am very curious to see what Tomasek brings. I would also like to see Podz get some more opportunity to produce than 4th line, I really think we're building something with him. I would like to see something like this

X-McDavid-Hyman
X-Draisaitl-Savoie
X-Nuge-Tomasek
Janmark-Philp-Y

X's is 3 of Henrique, Podkolzin, Frederic, Ehlers. I wouldn't mind any on the 3rd line, if in the top 6 I prefer Henrique on 1, Podz/Ehlers on 2, and Frederic on either. If we get Ehlers or some other top 6 upgrade, I think Henrique has to go, capwise.

I think Nuge on the 3rd could give us that 3 line attack that Florida has. Tomasek can help with RH draws.

For Y, I like Cody Glass or Kapanen.
Crazy how 1 top 6 forward changes everything. I've been saying it forever......

Ehlers Mcdavid Hyman
Podkolzin Leon Savoie (pods never leaves Leon lol)
Frederick Nuge Tomasek
Who cares line 4

This team beats FLA with a goalie, Even if we dumb Kane, Ekholm, Arvy
