Is a faster Kailer Yamamoto really such a bad thing? Kailer was a good trooper here for a few years. Putting up 15-20 goal, 30-40 point pace for 3 seasons as well as that magical 27 game stint with Draisaitl that helped 29 lock up his MVP. The issue is that we paid him as if he was gonna develop into a 20-30 goal, 50-60 point guy and he couldn't live up to the contract. Not to mention the injuries. I'd have time for a Kailer Yamamoto for 1 million, especially since Savoie is considered the better skater/defensive player from what I've read. You can trade him in 2 years when he comes off the ELC.

I don't accept Bowman's proclamation that the defense is good to go. The D corps needs significant upgrades. Kulak fans be all up in a tizzy. He shit the bed in the finals for a second straight year. Goodbye Kulak.

Ekholm, my favorite D on the Oil is old and coming off serious core and groin issue. He might be relugated to driving the second or even third pairing if the Oil want to get back to the finals.
But don't you agree that the forward core and goalies are more important? Unfortunately we can't upgrade everything

I'm not saying now, I'm saying in the last few years, have Eakins "coach" him, he's a better player than you give him credit for and the Flyers got him for nothing. Verbeek looks like an idiot, again.
The Flyers got him for a third line center and a 2nd, which is more than anyone else was willing to pay. What exactly do you think was the better option?

He was an RFA a year from now, making $5.75m. His icetime has diminished year over year and the Ducks are not far from extending a handful of actual core players long-term.

This coming season was going to be Zegras' last year in Anaheim one way or another. This was the Ducks getting some value for the asset instead of them getting literally nothing.

Always funny when you're hoping for things lol.

Savoie should absolutely get a shot to play for the big club next year. The Oilers have the "drivers" they need guys to support and Savoie can absolutely do that.
Yes Savoie gets a shot next year, but it's doubful he is the answer as a quality top 6 Winger for Leon.

If Savoie is our top 6 Winger for Leon the offseason was a failure.

Trent Frederic does not play small. Lol. Do you even know who he is?
Yeah of course I do. He was not great in these playoffs...he played small...watch any clip of him in the playoffs and he was not that aggressive....not the 6'3" 221 lb player he is listed at. It does not matter what he looked like before in Boston....

I'm just hoping it was his ankle injury that was holding him back because he was definitely unimpressive in the playoffs. The Oilers would have an idea of how he limited he was.

I think we should be looking to do something like this going into next year;

Savoie / ????? - McDavid - Hyman
Frederic (3.5m?) - Draisaitl - Savoie / ?????
RNH - Pageau (5 mil?)- Kapanen
Podkolzin - O'Reilly / Philp - Perry
Janmark

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Walman
Kulak - Emberson
Stecher

????
Hart/Allen

Out: Skinner, Skinner, Rico, Arvidsson, Brown, Klingberg, Pickard

In: Bouchard contract, Frederic Contract, two goaltenders, Pageau, mystery top 6 forward.

Basically we've got 27.6 million to get rid of those players and fit in Bouch (9m?), Frederic (3.5m?), two goaltenders (5m?), Pageau (5m?), and a mystery top 6 forward (5m?).

Seems do-able, but tight as hell.

I don’t think he will amount to anything different than KY is what I started to say. I followed up saying that they are similar in stature and current offensive output in the same league.

But I’ve been told because he wears his same weight differently on his frame, I should expect different outcomes.

No one knows. It’s all just conjecture. The silliness is people trying to say because he has same height and weight but wears it different we can expect different careers.

And then I followed up that regardless of this, Savoie is not the panacea to the Oilers needs.
so true. Height and weight is the ultimate factor in a player becoming good. Good thing we have Philp who is 6'3 200lbs, that's Barkov potential!

I’d target the following goalie target levels.

1. Swayman/Saros - unlikely to be available but if they are you are very serious and pay the premium to get locked up.

2. Gibson/Demko - good options and more likely in the possibly. Concerns being around either goalies injury record. Most likely have skinner back up.

3. Allen - only cap space to acquire. That being said if he doesn’t work out you circle back and still look to acquire any of the other targets mid season.

My guess is we end up w/ Anton Forsberg

But my personal target would be Charlie Lindgen. I'd drop a 1st on that front sure

Market is actually pretty thin when they lay it out like that

-Gibson is medium risk. Used to be one of the best goalies in the league, but years on a moribund Anaheim team could have left a mark. Getting older, but considering Bobrovsky just kicked Edmonton's ass as a 35 and 36 year old, not as a big a deal as it might seem.
-Demko is high risk, probably way too high risk for Edmonton given his injury situation. The reward might be there though, but I wouldn't want to be the GM that throws all in on that bet.
-Elvis is a big pass, sounds like a total headcase. He's been terrible for 3 years running, Skinner levels bad. People shit on Gibson for Anaheim's poor record, but he's only dipped below .900 in two years(.899 in one of those) despite being on some truly terrible teams for half a decade.

Wouldn't even bother with any of the rest, including Allen, rather uninspiring UFA goalie market.

The optimal path seems to be to acquire Gibson, and then bring in Hart as a long term reclamation project as many have been clambering for. There have been reports that the Oilers aren't big Gibson fans, and that they've been inquiring on some bigger names(Swayman, Saros etc), so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
