Anaheim clearly doesn’t want him part of their culture. I think was time to move on.

Philly is a weird landing spot though. Surprised a team like Calgary couldn’t beat that offer.

Just like Taylor Hall wasn't a good fit for Edmonton's new culture, and Reinhart wasn't a good fit for Buffalo's new culture, etc

It's an uncomfortable truth, but keeping McDavid happy is more important to management than winning a Stanley Cup.

It's fortunate for those of us not financially invested that those two things have a generally positive correlation.

This is true.

I wonder if the reports are a little exaggerated for the media and fans as well because McDavid always struck me in interviews that he subscribes to the players play, coaches coach, GMs manage rule as well.

Honestly if the team and McDavid are serious about winning the cup, they should be seriously exploring moving Nurse and legitimately fixing their goaltending. I think feelings inside the dressing room are too important.

I think they would move that contract if they could but it is the Titanic of contracts in the league right now. He has full control for 3 more years IIRC, and a tight 10 team NT after that, being so bonus laden that it cannot be bought out. Chiarelli gave us the Koskinen contract. Holland gave us the Nurse contract.

The only hope is the cap skyrockets so in future years the contract is not as onerous as it is now.

Edit - agree that feelings matter less than facts and you have to be somewhat ruthless in your pursuit of the championship, including McDavid. He should not give one shit who his goalie is as long as he wins and if said goalie cant win for you his attitude should be that goalie shouldn't be on the team.

I do t think he’s actually telling GMs what to do but he is suggesting things. The fact of the matter is he knows they will listen to the suggestions more often than not.

Depends what the suggestion is. For example I suggested to the Oilers in my annual STH survey that I should have a parking spot reserved right by the entryway doors and McDavid said no.

I don't think Gibson struggles with breakaways, dekes, all cross crease shots, wraparounds, screens, shots to the glove side, shots to the blocker side, shots to the 5, 6 and 7 holes, or shots above the pads.

Edit - I forgot shots along the ice and deflections.

I mean, simply asking Gibson if he can move side to side and if he answers yes, that's an improvement already

I think Anaheim looks pretty solid without Zegras tbh.

Gauthier - McTavish - Terry
Killorn - Carlsson - Vatrano
Kreider - Strome - Fabbri

I think that's better than anything with Zegras in it. And pohling kind of makes sense on a fourth line along side Leason. Then they got Sennecke who likely makes the team.

If anything they likely are looking to move Fabbri.

They have a decent team on paper. Wouldn’t be surprised if they get a regular season bump especially with Quenneville.

I think too - Rico+Skinner for Gibson makes a lot of sense.

Rico likes Anaheim. Anaheim likes Rico. He'd be stellar for their 4th line;

Leason - Rico - Poehling

Then Skinner would be a decent reclamation project for them, that worst case gets them closer on the McKenna sweepstakes - and best case their actual goaltending Gurus can turn into something worth assets. Or perhaps the other way around. 😂

Any word yet on the 8 year Connor Brown extension?

I thought Anaheim was due for a resurgence soon anyway, within 1-2 years. We might see them pushing for a spot this season if they keep improving their team

I’m not sure how effective Marner will be playing in the Pacific TBH. He’s a good player but seems rather soft for this division.
It matters which team, can you imagine Marner finishing for McDavid or Draisaitl? Or Vegas as rumored.

Point is teams need the correct components to nuclear.

I keep my views out when posting tidbits, attempting not to play telephone, but that was cringe.

I think half of it is management underlining the lack of good options out there.
Another part of it is that his next contract has the potential to crush any chances of building a competitive roster. I think it's responsible to have the core guys in the conversation, especially McDavid, who is likely leaving money on the table.

Can’t blame them for being unhappy (but maybe for different reasons, ;) ).

Yamamoto has already flamed out as an NHLr. And now our great white hope is a similar type and sized player? Oh goody.

I have no idea if Savoie is better/worse than Yams was. If I had to guess, I would state that statistically, its actually unlikely that Savoie will have as long of a career as Yams did. Yams scored 20 goals one year after all.

However, Savoie is built differently than Yams is. They have similar height/weight stats, but Savoie is more stout. So comparisons due to physical stature really shouldn't be made.

This is the type of tallent McDavid deseves... we could have traded Holloway and Broberg for him and received something sustantial beyond Zegras in return for a cup run...

... what a f***ing shit league the NHL is, the Oil will never recover from losing Holloway and Broberg for 10 cents on the dollar.

The franchise was f***ed over for becoming too relevant, the offer sheets for Holloway and Broberg had little to do with the St. Louis Blues interests, it was the motherf***ing league's interests.

They knocked us the f*** down, put us in our place, and closed the Oil's window for a championship. We might have had a shot at multiple Cups, just like Florida.

Honestly I think he'd just get the Jeff Skinner treatment from Knoblach anyways for basically the same reasons.

People want Terry and he had 7 hits the ENTIRE season. Not to mention he is getting paid 7 million dollars LOL

Unless they are taking back Henrique and Arvidsson, no thank you...
