While I'm sure the team wanted to accrue more cap space, odds are they weren't getting past the b2b road games (more specifically, 3 road games in 4 nights) in 2 weeks with only 12 forwards. Not unless they had a plan to hook Ryan and/or Perry up to a ventilator during the intermissions...

Imo Lavoie's an obvious tag team partner to keep Perry fresh and a backup option for the top 6. We just saw Janmark get a look on the second line in practice, so while he may not beat out any of the main 4 wingers, it's not like the Oil are drowning in alternatives to RNH, Hyman, Arvidsson, and Skinner.

Lavoie gives you someone to at least keep several seats warm, even if he doesn't have an obvious role.

Do tell what was your reaction to the transaction?

Let's see what Broberg does next game. Then we can see what he accomplishes over the next decade.

We were/are in win now mode and these are the kind of trades you make. If you look in the thread it is about 60/40 in favor of the trade and those against the trade were unhappy were unhappy about trading him.

Great that we got him back, but a bit of a reality check for Oiler fans thinking that he was ready to be on the roster of a championship calibre team when 31 other teams didn’t think he was NHL ready. Hopefully he goes to Bake with a good attitude and we see him up here at some point this year.
Remember though that part of the reason they didn't think he was good for their NHL roster is that they dont know enough about him. Teams don't scout random players that much, and dont like to commit to players for stats alone

Last 3 years before joining the Oil...

Ceci
74 GP, 7-19-26, -22. 22:34 TOI
56 GP, 1-7-8, +7, 20:32 TOI
53 GP, 4-13-17, +18, 18:31 TOI

Kulak
56 GP, 0-7-7, -1. 17:08 TOI
46 GP, 2-6-8, +3, 16:06 TOI
56 GP, 3-10-13, -10, 17:58 TOI

Stecher
29 GP, 1-2-3, -7 16:29
81 GP, 3-11-14, -6, 16:22
47 GP, 1-4-5, +5, 18:26

Stecher's more or less identical to Kulak's minutes and production before he got to Edmonton, and isn't far off Ceci's. Which more or less lines up as a solid #5 that can moonlight as a #4. That's also a good bit ahead of the 13 to 15 min PK specialist that Vinny was here.

The Oil do need to add a big, physically dominant, defensive defenceman that can play regular minutes before they get to the playoffs (Josh Manson being the closest thing to the perfect fit. Not saying he's available). But what they've got should be more than fine for the regular season.

Imo, the big question with this group isn't if they're good enough (for the regular season), it's if the ones that are made of glass can stay healthy.
I’d be trying Stetcher out to see if he can swap in for Kulak, we may need that cap space in the RHD deal. Then Stetcher - Emberson becomes the third pair.

sounds like a conspiracy
If Bowman was smart, he’d trade him to the claiming team.

Doesn’t seem likely he’d sneak through another set of waivers.
