Rumor: NHL might go back to white jersey at home, dark on the road in next CBA.

If it ain't broke......

Seriously though find a real problem and solve it what are we doing here.

I think they mess around with the jerseys every few years to try and drive new jersey sales.

Heritage jerseys. New colour schemes. Special event jerseys.

Switching it back re-familiarizes everyone at home games with the white jersey.

I'd be curious as to what the ratio of white to coloured jersey sales are, and whether it shifted when they switched originally from white to coloured.

I hate it.

It's way cooler to have the home team's colors drowning out the opposing team's players on the ice, especially during the playoffs.

Whites at home is so boring. Almost every team's white kit is aesthetically worse than its dark kit.

I don't get the argument that you want to "see" the away teams different colours. Like...you are aware you can see them on TV? What is the population of people that exclusively watch hockey via their team's home games in person and never on TV?

The population that wants colors at home, I’d assume, skews towards STH. They’re the people ponying up the money.

Reading the Tweet, it makes it sound like the point of the change might be to make colour vs colour possible. Maybe it will be a scenario where the whites become the defacto third jersey at home and are only worn when the away team colour conflicts with the home?

Let's say Tampa is on a road trip where they play Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. If Tampa wears their blue jersey, they are fine against Montreal and fine against Ottawa (assuming Ottawa's red third is introduced). But there is no way for Tampa vs Toronto to be colour vs colour because both Toronto's blue and black jerseys would be too close to Tampa's blue jersey (which hilariously is a ripoff of the Leafs jersey). Rather than make Tampa travel with multiple jerseys, it makes sense for the home team for any conflicts to wear white.

I'd at least hope that is how it ends up working. We wouldn't see white jerseys nearly as often and they would be more of a last resort thing, unless the home team prefers them for some reason.

If the Blues make their first white winter classic jersey the home jersey, that would be acceptable.

I like it as is, but if they’re going to change anything I’d move to a primary and secondary option like soccer where the secondary option is only used if there is a clash in primary uniforms looking too similar.

ie Leafs at Red Wings is Blue vs Red, opposed to White vs Red

Every teams white jerseys are the worst in the sport. So boring.

Its intimidating to come into the arena and the rink and the fans are all repping the teams main colours. White? There's no personality. Why should the away team get to come into the opponents rink with their own colours on?

Ass backwards, which checks out for this league that has no clue how to market itself and is even allowing hideous corporate logos to stain team branding.

Nice, have always preferred home whites. That way you get to see different colored road jerseys throughout the year. Otherwise it's always your team against white.

The counterargument is that home fans, the ones most likely to purchase the home team jersey, only see the boring old white jersey, while away fans get to see the colorful aways and cool alternates.
