I've seen a lot about this online, but still confused. If BOTH goalies get hurt, the rules state the team may dress any eligible goaltender. What does "eligible goaltender" mean? On the previous page, it states that an "eligible" player is one who was given on the official roster to the officials before the game. So that's why I'm confused. Articles online say "anyone could technically play", but I'm having trouble understand that when I read the rules. A couple years ago it happened with Florida I think and the officials told the team it had to be a player (because the goalie coach was going to play), but the article(s) I read about it went on to say that was incorrect and the officials told them wrong. The backup made it back in time after being injured and could still play, so it wasn't necessary. Does anyone have any clarification on this??
e. Except when both goalkeepers are incapacitated, no player in the playing roster in that game shall be permitted to wear the equipment of the goalkeeper.
f. In regular League and Playoff games, if both listed goalkeepers are incapacitated, that Team shall be entitled to dress and play any available goalkeeper who is eligible. This goalkeeper is eligible to sit on the player's bench, in uniform. No delay shall be permitted in taking his position in the goal, and he shall be permitted a two-minute warm-up. However, the warm-up is not permitted in the event a goalkeeper is substituted for a penalty shot.
(NOTE) In the event that the two regular goalkeepers are injured in quick succession, the third goalkeeper shall be provided with a reasonable amount of time to get dressed, in addition to a two-minute warm-up.
