Didn't see this posted but mostly good rule changes.

I'd like to see coaches challenge for everything disappear completely. They need to just switch it to VAR like the MLS and stop wasting everyone's time with them. If they aren't going to do that there's needs to be a 30 second clock that starts from as soon as the whistle for a goal or play is blown because I'm tired of watching coaches and players delays games on purpose so they can look at more camera angles.

The rest of the changes make sense...

I’m still trying to figure out why it’s a problem for a player to dangle his leg over the boards before a line change. That aspect of the game has been around since boards became a thing. Did something happen to make this an issue?

Not too bad, I like those changes. In the past, there was too many rules change for me to keep up. I would love to bring back two-line pass offside and expand the neutral zone so that the offensive zone is smaller for point shots to be a dangerous option again. Right now, it's two feet farther from the blue line to the net and they stopped majority of those type of shots. That is the only thing I would like to see it happening this year.

To avoid guys gaming the system and getting early changes if I had to guess.

Other than wishing they'd get rid of the offsides challenge and wasting so much time of live play only to call it all back, I think these changes are good

They can also effectively deny the space and cause distraction. Players on the bench shouldn't be able to influence gameplay that directly so it's a good change.

Because in their video they specifically mention "skates being exposed during play", I think it's a safety thing.

RULE 38 - Coach’s challenge can be used to rescind delay of game penalty for puck over glass.

RULE 63.8 – No line change when defensive player (including goalie) accidentally displaces net.

RULE 76.4 – Following an icing, the first face-off violation by either team will result in a warning.

RULE 75.2 – Following one warning, team will be given minor penalty for player sitting on boards.

RULE 8.2 – When a goalkeeper is removed for evaluation, replacement may be afforded a warm-up.

This is the sort of thing I’m wondering about… did something happen somewhere in the hockey world to bring this up?

I’ve never heard of this being an issue at all, it seemed to come out of nowhere unless I just missed something in the news.

The awareness of skate blade dangers has definitely gone up since Adam Johnson's death. I honestly just figured it was from all that even if it's not at all how the incident happened.

Funny how perception of rule changes alters after they have been implented and practiced. The point with bigger O-zones was to give more space for creativity. Now a bigger zone is seen as a problem.

they really need to do something about time stretching face offs after an icing. Should be something done about the center faulting the 1st face off to win another 15-20 seconds, i mean come on.

Can we call this the "Matt Murray" rule?

Congrats to Murray! he got a ruled created because of his play. Him and Brodeur can talk about it.

Hate when they make rules that don't work both ways. If you can challenge a call to rescind a penalty you should be able to challenge a missed call to have a penalty called.

It's none of these things. It's a safety concern and this rule was actually implemented back in March of last year, after a linesman was injured by a skate blade from someone sitting on the boards.

I feel like rule #5 will be abused. It’s basically a timeout without using a timeout.

Down by a goal with two minutes left in the third period and there’s a scramble in front of your own net? Goalies are gonna fake injuries all the time

It would be cool if each year we got a few preseason games with an experimental rule change or two so we could see what effect these hypotheticals have.

They can keep the challenges but just add an off ice ref or let the control room in Toronto make all the calls. By the time the ref gets over and puts the headset on everyone at home already knows the result because they've already seen the replay. They could easily speed up challenges that way
