RRP's "Hey I'm Tanked, Where's Cole's +/-?"

I don't see me posting anything about Sutter's greatness in the offensive zone. Maybe I'm not the one seeing through tinted glass. We beat a bad team & everyone got excited. There is a reason Carolina had to add the 8th overall & a prospect. Sutter is a grinding type player who will contribute around 30 points a season. Sorry if people thought he was going to be more but he just isn't.

Nobody said Sutter was great offensively. The thread was full of praise for Sutter's all-around game, how he made the right plays in both zones, and had some nice offensive touches. If you're expecting him to replace Staal's scoring, your expectations are out of whack, but Sutter's a smart offensive player in his own right.

And who's the bad team supposed to be? The Flyers?

It's been one week, man! Take the broader view.

Sutter hasn't looked very dangerous. TK is gonna be the source of offense on that line. Was proven true last night.

See, I disagree with this. Sutter looked plenty dangerous, he got to scoring areas and had a number of golden opportunities. The IQ/will was there, the ability to finish wasn't. I *think* it's easier to develop the ability to finish than it is to develop good offensive IQ/instincts

so far Sutter hasn't made me forget Staal, that's for sure. Hope he can find it in him to finish these plays. Otherwise his ceiling is probably just that of a 35-40 point third line center. Will definitely give him the rest of the season before I pass judgement on him though.

Considering his age and newness to the team, I tend to agree with this.

I am taking the broader view. We've been bounced from the playoffs early three years in a row. Even the games we won were not pretty wins. Both Philly & the Rangers there were horrible turn overs & bad overall play.

Let me ask you what has you encouraged about this team? Is it the dozen or so turn overs a game in our zone? The missed coverages every night? Having to rely on three guys to score all the goals?

We are 22nd defensively this year. Dead last in last years playoffs. How many years can you sit back, ignore the problems that are very evident, & go "we'll get them next year."

I'm not saying "we'll get them next year". I'm saying it's been one week. Like I said, take a page out of Bobby Mac's playbook and let things fall into place a little.

We've looked careless for stretches (easy to forget we've looked dominant for stretches too though, eh?). So have the Rangers and Flyers. The defending Stanley Cup Champs are the worst team in the league. Do you think they're doomed too, or is it just us?

Teams are playing with an abbreviated camp and no pre-season. That also needs to be taken into account.

The Flyers and Rangers teams changed in the off-season (party due to trades and FAs walking, but also due to injuries in the case of the Flyers).

The issues people are bringing up now are things that many have been complaining about across multiple seasons. I think that's why people are so concerned, 4 games into the year or 40.

This should be a team that's out to prove something. Instead they're playing careless hockey. And DB is making the same mistakes he made last year.

None of which changes that we still had little camp and no pre-season to work out our kinks.

If we're looking at the same problems at the end of February - after there's been time for players to get into game shape and execute DB's notoriously exacting system - then there's real cause for concern.

I have a feeling we'll be looking a lot better by then.

Crosby is looking better. But he stills seems tentative to come in the zone with speed. Letting the puck go a lot more.

It might be too late by then. :shakehead

If this team doesn't make the playoffs then Disco will be gone for sure. But there's no way another coach is going to be brought in in the middle of the season so that the players need to learn another system, with some 20 games to learn it.

This team won't win games if it continues to play this ******** style of hockey. If they're going to make the playoffs, then this "system" better get turned around soon, and not in February.

I'm sorry, but this is going to look ridiculous next month. We have never, ever had problems winning regular season games under Bylsma. Ever.

Can't make radical changes at that point in a shortened season.

Of course you can. Therrien was fired in mid-February.

Like, you wanna go by points after a certain amount of games?

We can bet to use an avatar of the winner's choice for a month.

I'll say 15 games into the season, a decent sample size. If this team has 20 points or less by the February 15th game against Winnipeg, then you have to switch your avatar and vice versa.

look dude, if you want to sit here and be all mature and calm and patient, that's your right, but I'M NOT GOING TO BE A PART OF IT!
