Roy the Ongoing Discussion

Okay, I was not a Roy fan mostly because of the bad PP and PK, but the team continuing to win as he plugs in new players may be cause for a reevaluation.

FWIW I think the plan was always to activate the D to reinforce our offense. That didn’t work at first for two reasons: old slow D core and Sorokin not playing like Sorokin.

Now other teams are playing with a beach ball and we’ve got a bunch of twinks jumping up every play. If nothing else, this should serve as proof of concept for whoever is building the roster next season.

The Isles true contender or not Roy has left little doubt that he is the right coach for this team moving forwards. If only he made himself available 6 years ago to think what he could have done with that roster. He’s got this team injuries and all sans Nelson/Barzal they look great 5 on 5 .

Whether we make the playoffs or not- Roy's done a great job IMHO through some tough injuries to key contributors, and overall roster limitations. He's clearly an NHL-caliber HC, and when you have one of those, especially as the NYI, I personally wouldn't be too eager to move on from him. Plus, it doesn't hurt that he's scaled the mountain top 4 times as a player.

Roy has done a pretty damned good job with Barzal missing most of the season and now Brock Nelson gone. Add in season ending injuries to Varlamov and his replacement missing a bunch of games. Also injuries on defense for a bunch of games too. He was really behind the 8 ball most of the season, and to have this team 2 points out of the playoffs with 13 games to go is pretty amazing.
