GDT: Round 2 Game 3

Still think JC74 should be taken off PP1. Reduce his minutes. If Chychrun isn’t gonna shoot, why is he there? Use 80 or 24 who are good with entries.

(yes, I know the PP isn’t the biggest issue rn, lol).
It kind of is. Definitely a top 3 big issue.

If we're relying solely on 5 on 5 goals to win the cup, than we're f***ed. The PP has to contribute.

Can't even be mad since the effort was good and they controlled play most of the night. Just can't finish their chances and sometimes it happens when you have no game-breaking talent. Same happened for Canes in G1 but Caps gifted them that game anyway by blowing up their lead late.

Irony of it all is that Canes are beating the Caps with their own strengths. Other team controls play? No problem, finish efficiently. In game 1 it was bouncing on turnover and pucks to the net with traffic that got them the GWG. Caps were among highest tip-scoring teams in the regular season, where is the traffic now? It's not like the Canes are frightening defense either, they are one of the softest in the league and struggled a lot to defend the slot in the regular season.

On to the next one. Need a W in Raleigh.

I’m not sure why they are highlighting the Martinook hit on Wilson as a great hit. Wilson wasn’t even close to the puck … haha come on
The same.
By the way. Shouldn't this hit be called as 2 minutes interference? The puck is in the corner, Wilson is in the middle of the D-zone
Instead of a possible PP they score few moments after.

Hate to lose games like this where we are the better team.
Caps just stopped played after the 3rd goal I don't even take in consideration what happened after.

They were doing that to Wilson all game. Like that was part of the plan..."take Wilson out of the game and we win". Burns was interfering with him constantly.

It was a good game. People will blame the offence for not producing but Anderson made multiple high danger saves that kept the Canes in the game in the first half.

The Caps can’t just open it up and play run and gun against the Canes. They will get destroyed.

Continue playing the same game, putting the same effort and hope for better bounces.

Two big misses on the reffing on a clear 4 minute minor high stick (partially offset by the 2 minute high stick on TVR) and the Martinook interference hit on Wilson (Canes scoring shortly after).

bros I’m so sad. I don’t think I can make it this series.
A lot more reasons to be optimistic about the Caps going forward regardless of the outcome of this series. Don't think anyone would've thought that after the Rags series last year. The majority of teams have it worse

Still think they can win this series too but they need to win Monday

I was fearing a blowout... keeping them largely scoreless in regulation was eventually going to resort to the means. Despite the score I don't consider it a blowout, more like a slow death. They withstood the early storm when normally its the road team that has to do that. We shot our load early but didnt score. They had some quality chances in the first as well. Damn shame that Willy didnt score on that breakaway that was the perfect script to shut those annoying fans up proper. Ovi had his chances as well. That's hockey.

I have to disagree on that. Sandin needed to get the jump on that puck, which normally doesn't sit there like that when you win a faceoff straight back. Carlson is the 2ndary option on D to cover Svechnikov, who jumped to the puck first. I have played both D roles off a faceoff like that. If your Sandin, you stay with Svechnikov immediately to where the puck goes. If you are Carlson you have to hold your ground to the other winger. Carlson shifted left but had to cover Svechnikov because Sandin did not stay with him.

Here’s how I see it. In case they lose the draw, every man should be covered. Dowd had Aho, Duhaime and Beauvillier have the Canes D, Sandin has Jarvis and Carlson should have Svechnikov.

You can even see Carlson give Svechnikov one last look before the puck drops, because he knows that’s his man, he’s simply too slow to react.

In the case the puck sits there behind Dowd after the draw, Carlson is supposed to jump on it and work it back to Sandin who cuts behind him towards the corner (or behind the net for safety).

Dowd did his job, he technically won the draw. Svechnikov just cut right through and there’s nothing Sandin could do. You can see he was headed in the direction I drew in the picture above, but had to turn around when Carlson lost Svechnikov.

This is year 7 of 8. Next season is his last under this contract. Will be interesting to see what the team does. He'll be a UFA at age 36. He still gobbles up a ton of minutes.

He takes a pay cut and a reduced role or he goes. I think he’ll take that retirement deal and hopefully the Caps can find someone to step in his role.

Aside from that wide open net Carlson scored, he's been pretty abysmal this series. As someone said earlier, Canes are just the worst team for him to play against. Monday is absolutely must win. If Leno and Tommy score on those breakaways, we could be looking at being 3-0 this series (stealing game 1 obviously), but I liked how the majority of that game went yesterday until the wheels fell off. That first period was strong. Ovechkin looks off for sure though.

He was as bad as I can ever recall him playing for a game last night. He’s known for some mind numbing gaffes, but eesh…..last night was a new level of futility.

Carlson lost his man no doubt, but Sandin turned that into a goal against by overplaying and vacating the front of the net. Complete lack of defensive awareness there on 38. A D pair totally shitting the bed.

Carlson has been bad the entire playoffs. The reason we haven't been killing him here was because his awfulness didn't lead to goals against. Until last night. Twice. He is either injured or cooked.
