John Carlson is just a pylon out there now in his own zone. Losing Marty changed this defense more than they'd like to admit. Probably should have made a move for a D vet at the deadline if you knew your backup options were a guy you only trust to play 9 minutes a night or a guy who's only good as a goon/practice hype man who does splits as your options. AA can be fired off into the sun after this season and McIlrath should be Hershey bound. Need to add a defensive D vet who isn't a pylon and bring Iorio up next year to replace them.

They can’t handle it when Carolina ups the tempo/intensity/energy. We’re not clean enough.

It's easy to say it but I've been bitching about d-zone breakdowns since before the series started. Carlson blows it big when he blows it. Some of this can be attributed to Marty's absence but the Caps know what works and got away from it. Game 4 to equalize.
