Game 3 was a weird game, alot of deflected pucks going into the net etc.We looked fine in Game 3, I'd argue better than game 2
There wasn't a lot of sustained pressure for FLA in Game 3Game 3 was a weird game, alot of deflected pucks going into the net etc.
The trend of FLA getting back to their game started then, really started clogging the neutral zone and forechecking us well.
The difference right now is, FLA getting sustained pressure due to their forecheck and not letting Toronto breakout clean. And Toronto is letting FLA breakout clean without any issues. That needs to change.
Powerplay needs to be adjusted so when FLA pressures them instantly, they pay for it by being out of position. Just need cleaner puck movement and you can catch FLA running around.

But I do agree there are some easy adjustments. PP hasn't looked great this playoff, even when it was red hot. D are taking too much unnecessary punishment and were not doing a good job adjusting in game
I don't get the Marner hate last night. He was winning pucks in the corners, competing, standing in the dirty areas. Matthews is letting this line down and the guilt by association gets old. We've all criticized Marner for disengaging physically, well he's done that all series and actually had some success there, so I'm going to note that because it's nice to see the engagement. It's a tough series and he's in there. Now the PP last night was garbage and he owns some of that for sure.Based on vibes I thought Woll was incredible. Nylander and Marner were also quite good.
Otherwise a bad game and I feel the creeping Dread
He looked like he was hustling like crazy to me and that's all I want from these guys lolI don't get the Marner hate last night. Whereas I don't get his defenders. I thought he was awful. Constant giveaways and soft play. Too many of those BS floating passes that make the top 10 list in the regular season but never work in the playoffs. When was the last time Marner drove to the net? He's firing pucks at shin pads at the point.I don't get the Marner hate last night. He was winning pucks in the corners, competing, standing in the dirty areas. As Bunkis asked last night, Is Marner also hurt. Zero SOG in Florida and 13 in 10 playoff games. If the Leafs want to change the narrative on their team it needs to start with the Core 4. I am sorry but those 4 have to will the team to victory. When they are producing the team follows. As far as I am concerned there is one change that needs to be done immediately. Kampf needs to be inserted into the lineup. Jarnkrok needs to be taken out. Lines needs to be made as follows:
Knies-Matthews-Marner
McMann-Tavares-Nylander
Patches-Laughton-Domi
Lorenz-Kampf-Holmberg
We can say what we want about Matthews. The guy is playing hurt. Its obvious. He has been all season. But Kampf being inserted helps us on the draw by shifting Domi to wing. We should control the faceoff dots which in turn will control the tempo and time with puck. Thats how we will beat them. Jarnkrok has added nothing and Kampf is a bigger body that is sound defensively.
Just like in the Ottawa series, I think the Leafs will benefit from the extra day of rest before game 5.
Also the amount of punishment Tanev is taking is unbelievable. I feel bad for the guy. We're paying a 35 year old to get absolutely mangled.
Verhaeghe is the exact player I was thinking about. He's been a heat seeking missile after Tanev.Florida has been sending Verhaeghe in after him on the forecheck. I think McCabe needs to see if he can slow down the forecheck while Tanev is on retrievals. The only other course of action is you spend some after the whistle scrums to seriously get some licks in and discourage that behaviour.
McCabe prefers sending Tanev suicide passes insteadI think McCabe needs to see if he can slow down the forecheck while Tanev is on retrievals.
Maybe it's better to spread the minutes out? Get everybody else involved. Look at the ice time distribution. There are 5 guys, then the rest of the forwards barely play. Berube sucks, Leafs would have won the series with Ottawa with Keefe too.
