What happened to the rookie Mitch Marner that went and grabbed Ristolainen and tried to pull him down when he was roughing up Matthews? You watch that scrum and Marner is just content staying out of it with Danault. Danault takes off to go help his team and Marner tries to hang on to him for dear life. No interest in helping his buddy who is right in the heat of it (cuz Matthews actually tried to help Hyman). I love Mitch. But these playoff games have been awful for him. He doesn't deserve to wear a letter with this kind of uninterested performance. I like the guy...maybe why I'm being so hard on him tonight. He needs to step the heck up. He's wearing an A and getting a big pay day. Nice passes aren't enough
I’ve been saying for years. This roster is not built for a sustained playoff run when things get nasty on the ice. To add that our PP is abysmal allows other teams to not fear taking penalties with after the whistle crap.

It's interesting. I've got to say, it's a stupid rule. I'm not sure what the logic of it is tbh.
I am pretty sure it was implemented a number of years ago to reduce the scrums after every single whistle. Definitely hasn't always been the rule. I THINK the same thing happens if a team is going on a PP and ice the puck for whatever reason. I thought it comes outside the blueline.

He doesn't suck. He's simply expected to be one of the very top producing offensive players in the playoffs, in line with his regular season production and the other guys in the league that produced at a similar level in the regular season and continue to tear it up in the playoffs.

It's not personal. He simply has an incredibly high standard to meet and maintain.
Chill bro take a puff or three

If he played like this consistently, rather than having stretches where it's clear he just doesn't give a rat's ass, he'd probably get more use.

That's fine if it's the standard for everyone, the problem is it's not.

Genuinely don’t know. Not saying Keefe isn’t to blame. Just saying the PP coach is stupid.

I'm saying Keefe is to blame.

If an assistant coach is having trouble, then the head coach needs to step in. I'm not saying Malholtra needs to be fired, but he needs help.

All my non-leaf fan friends tune in and always ask me whats the deal with nylander. So sick yet used like a depth player.
He's a top line winger on almost any other team. Some days I think we are all guilty of forgetting how fortunate we have been through drafting Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and signing Tavares. We would have killed for any ONE of them at one point in time. But I think the our criticism comes from expecting better (a first round advancement) result. Which is fair

In fairness, Matthews has stepped up big time as a leader and has brought physicality and involved himself in scrums. Nylander has found a way to raise his game. This young core has taken steps. And I'm convinced Marner will figure it out here at some point in the series and look like the best player on the ice. He needs to step up though, cuz his effort and compete has been sad
