Bryson knows he needs to bring it. There is enough depth behind him ready to take his spot.

Its not about losing their minds. I just want to turn the page and sick of seeing him out there. He adds nothing.
That’s why he’s the no 7 defenseman - you won’t see him out there unless there’s an injury.if he adds nothing but also subtracts little - then he’s doing his job as a depth d. Novikov and for sure Johnson will probably be in that role by the end of the year…he’s filler bc that’s exactly what he is - filler.

The only way it matters is if Stillman gets claimed, that would mean we traded Bloom for essentially nothing.
Who cares? Think of it as a third for depth D at the deadline. We have McCarthy drafted with that 3rd this year instead of bloom. And I’d rather have the defenseman we drafted this year with our third then bloom.

Sorry, folks. I defended the trade and can still be convinced it was the best move over Bryson, but its worth discussion. Not sure why you are so quick to shut that down.

Because it just seems like an unjustified shot at the general manager. If Clifton was on waivers, then sure, your point would stand. But Stillman was brought in to be a depth defenseman and to try to push for the playoffs last season. I personally would have kept him up over Bryson, but if the Stillman waiving looks bad for anyone, it's for Stillman. He had an opportunity to beat out bryson, and apparently did not.

I'm convinced my sentence was meant to continue the discussion.

I can accept that there are moves by Adams that end up looking like poor judgement. Signing Bryson to that contract might fall into that category depending on what happens this season. Same with the Lyubushkin signing. Trading for Stillman.

The Stillman trade was about adding depth because Bryson wasn't capable last season. I was making the point that Pegula is allowing him to spend too improve depth. They are paying over $3M to defensemen in the AHL.

I think something else that hasn't been brought up yet vis a vis Bryson/Stillman is this:

At the end of 21/22, Bryson was looking like a legitimate NHL defenseman who could be a 3rd pairing, smooth-skating, little-offense guy whose positioning was solid. He's shown more as an NHL defenseman than Stillman has thus far over their careers.

And in the very beginning of 22/23, he looked the same. But then the injuries hit, Bryson was asked to do too much and he just broke. From the middle of November on, he was awful.

He's just 25. There's a very real chance that 22/23 is/was the outlier year and Bryson will return to being a reliable 6/7 guy. Of course, there's a very real chance that 22/23 is who he actually is going forward.

But for the most part, Granato has earned my trust when making lineup decisions. Let's see if he's right here.

The accountable part?
I think Stillman is more valuable than Bryson as well.I was a big Bryson fan 2 years ago great skater moved the puck good positional defenceman. Then last year happened and he did a 180 not sure why. However at end of day we are talking a debt defenceman who is good in locker room which means alot as a debt guy.Short term injury Bryson will play, longterm Johnson or whomever is playing well in Rochester. It's a debt guy in a month Stillman could be up and Bryson down it doesn't effect our top 5

I don’t understand how Stillman cost us Bloom and not 7th round, guys like that end up on waivers, which is what happened. This all looks damn weird.

Well, the Bills hushed the few of their over the top critics in the Bills thread. Unfortunately, the venom is being spewed at a much high rate here. Hopefully, the Sabres will do the same thing!

*this isn't a dig at everyone who is being critical, only the select few who always throw shit at the wall hoping it sticks.*

He is still on the team though and he shouldn't be.

Adams should have improved the defense enough over the off season that he is not even on this team anymore. Adams failed to do that.

What you've been told several times about this specific situation (Bryson/Stillman #7+8 dmen) is that your cap argument makes no sense.

Explain how pencilling in Bryson for #7 and maybe 50 games makes sense when he could have been stashed in minors and we might actually have a slightly better D than adding a 35-year-old well past his prime and a Bruins castoff who was benched in the playoffs. Neither guy is s top 4 and frankly we will be looking at some bad third pairings again, just like last year
