Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

Bringing Palmieri back doesn’t exactly make them faster or more skilled though
His style of play is fine. Hes a hard nosed guy that’s gonna score 20+. He’s not slow and he’s able to play with tempo the way Darche wants.

Engvall is faster than Palmieri but he does play with tempo or attack. Palmieri is actually suited well for that style of play.

All good, except Palms is like 47 yrs old, and not likely to duplicate past success going forward. Could have used this $ for Dobson, Romo deals, even for a swing at Marner.
A bigger contract is going to have to go out if Marner comes in, regardless of this deal. That could end up being Dobson. Otherwise it has zero impact on Dobson and Romanov, I'm sure they've already carved out cap estimates well ahead of negotiations.

Of course there's a big question of if Marner is coming in at all but I'll guess MM has checked in already.

Would have just soon that they hadn't honored the deal with Palms...

But, if you just had to do it...then 2 years and 4.75 is actually a good number for someone who has played all 164 games the last two seasons and averaged 27 goals and 50 points; and 15 of those coming on the PP which is pretty good considering how crappy it has been for both of those seasons.

Boqvist is also fine at that number on a 1-year deal....

NYI should not be bringing back Nelson unless they intend to use him as a stop-gap center or shift him to wing.

Even then, I'm of the mindset that they've already moved on and acquired assets for him. Continue to get younger and more dynamic.
Nelson is the only center Palmieri produces with. Since we just committed to Kyle for another 2 years....

Barzal
Nelson
Ritchie
Cizikas
MacLean

Bye J-G Pageau. Thanks for everything and Godspeed.

He's come up a decent amount prior to the playoffs. Issue is cap space and now they added Rantanen, so they might be more amenable to trading Robertson to bolster their defense.

TBH I was kinda surprised when his name was first brought up.
Robertson is entering his walk year at $7.7M. If the Stars don't want him and they are crying out for a big bodied defenseman, how about opening a conversation with NIll with Ryan Pulock as the starting point.

I agree, I think people get caught up in skate speed too much over puck speed. I’d rather have Tkachuk and his pace of play as one of the slowest skaters than Julien Gauthier.

It looks like Robertson is still a arbitration RFA after the contract, so it's 2 years of control before walking to UFA.

Not sure how much truth there is is to this but somebody on the message board says Minny wants a late first for Rossi(and Rossie wants 7M). Maybe we can trade the lesser of our 2 2026 first rounders and hope he sign for a bit less even if a bridge deal

Rossi is listed as a C - is that what he plays? And who does he play with? For example, if he's a 60 point player and he's playing with Kaprizov, I'd be hesitant to commit $7M of space to him.

I understand why both were signed, but Darche's first 3 moves (Boquist, Palms, Roy) keep the "Lou vibes" going around here.

Very much looking forward to the time where enough signings, trades, and hirings are made so this feels like Darche's team.

Lou vibes would have been signing Palmieri to a 5 year deal and Boqvist to a 7.
