Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

Idk maybe it’s just me, but all I see when I look at Svechnikov is wasted potential. He simultaneously doesn’t use his size, and yet still ends up hurt almost every season. If we’re moving Dobson, there’s gotta be a similarly aged player with a better track record than Svechnikov available.
He is 24 and has the ability to dominate games when locked in. He is exactly the type talent the team needs on the top line

For every flaw you can find in Svechnikov you have equal if not more in Dobson s game. The question is would Carolina do it?

If you are the islanders, and you can trade for either Robertson or Rossi, who do you prefer?
You're talking about Jason or Nick?

If it's Jason it's him, without a question, but with Benn's contract ending this season, and Seguin's deal close to wrapping up, there's no way Dallas should move on from him. It'll have a decent amount of cap space to keep him on a more lucrative contract.

I really like Nick's game too. Feel like Toronto misused him (what a surprise). Just needs an opportunity.

Rossi is such an interesting player. Runs very hot and cold, and have a feeling that if we were to trade for him, he'd be a whipping boy for this board lol. Still good enough for 60 points per season which I'll always take.

Carolina would do this deal in a heartbeat.

Not sure how much truth is to this but I heard on some youtube video that the Islanders offered Nelson 3 Years 7.5M a year which he rejected. The video also mentioned that Islanders actually had a deal in place with the Jets but he nixed that. I would assume the deal would have been similar(2026 first and a upper level but not elite prospect)

Would you rather trade Dobson for...

  1. A solid second line winger and a 2nd round pick.
  2. Three 1st rounders.
Next year’s draft? Or this years draft, or a combination? There is nuance to your question

A late pick this year as a starter? Not interested
A mid pick next year, mid pick ‘27?
To me? Your first option is a no, 2nd rounder means nothing, and a RHD who’s put up 70 points? Worth more than a second line wing.
The 3 first rounders need more context

Ok, fraudnotta.

If anything, Brock’s agent is trying to gauge whether his players value took a dump and considering how dumb McFarland looks right now, is he dumb enough to ‘think’ he’s saving face by resigning Nelson at Nelson’s price.

How do we feel about trading Colorados first for Rossi? I’d imagine we have to add more but he’s looking for 7x7
If that was the deal, I’d be in favor. I do worry that he is very small, and quite streaky, but he put up more points than any Isles player this year. If he’s acquired, I would hope in UFA we’d pick up some big, gritty guys too.

I’m with you, I just like the value.

I think if he’s with bigger wingers it works but I’m with Guerin that I’d want bigger guys down the middle.

NYI should not be bringing back Nelson unless they intend to use him as a stop-gap center or shift him to wing.

Even then, I'm of the mindset that they've already moved on and acquired assets for him. Continue to get younger and more dynamic.

I think the fact that he refused to sign when Lou was offering him a 3 year deal indicates he is not interested in coming back - even if the Isles had interest. And I agree it's for the best, this team needs to get younger and faster, and Nelson will be a quickly deteriorating asset.
