Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

They said no to this. They’re fine with their RD group
Fans sure. Who knows what the actual teams are thinking? I wouldn't completely rule out a Dobson to Utah trade just because HFBoards posters balked at the idea.

Also any center selected fourth is years away from making an NHL impact. Sounds like the ownership group there is itching to make a playoff push sooner than later.

That looks horrific.

I don't know much about the Utah farm, and I don't care enough to look into, but if they don't have an impact player coming up for next season, they really need to be trading for improvement should they hope to make the playoffs.

Dobson is potentially available for them. Send us back the Hagens pick.
They have 19 yr old kid, Thomas Lavoi who is a 6’4 215 pound RHD who put up 55 points in 60 games in AHL last season

Not ruling it out completely but they have a better feel for their team’s needs than you do and this discussion is prefaced on the idea that their defense is horrible, and I did not get a sense that they felt the same way, at least as far as their RD is concerned.

FWIW some of them may have been interested in Barzal though.

And how do you think the rest of the Islanders locker room will feel if Darche forces Pulock out the door like the Rangers did with Trouba? There is no correct way to ask a player to waive their NTC, because it isn’t the right thing to do.

Pulock has been here his entire career, and was a key contributor on some of the best teams this organization has ever had outside of the dynasty years. He has not expressed any interest in leaving.
If management does it the right way and communicates their intentions with the players I’m sure it will all be fine. The players are well aware this is a business.

It wasn’t so much that Trouba and Goodrow were moved, it’s how it was done that ruffled feathers.

They are one of the teams that could trade their 1st rounder for immediate help. In the Isles scenario, that’s probably more Barzal vs. Dobson. This potentially puts Isles in ‘Hagens territory.’

Oh the fact that they were moved definitely contributed to it. I think people here are being naive to the impact of these things and I’m sure it’s something players (and the union) are discussing.

Not to mention half the team having some form of trade protection, thanks Lou!

If Darche is smart, and all indications are that he is, then he should realize that a return to focus on drafting and building from within is going to be paramount. All the more reason that I’m anxious to see what he does with the tire fire in Bridgeport.
Amen to that!

Minnesota Wild.

I've been saying it for months.
If he wants to go to the Wild, why would he block a trade to Winnipeg? My feeling is he would at least consider Colorado, if he accepted a trade their, but not Winnipeg. Had to think the cup chances on either team were pretty similar, if not slanted to Winnipeg. We are talking about 3 months....so I doubt this 'Wild' thing is set in stone based on him nixing a WPG trade.

Hagens dropped to 8 in Button's latest rankings. Might be able to trade Dobson and get a later pick + to get him if mngmnt wants to roll the dice that he's not picked in top 5.

With Carolina now eliminated, I wonder if Carolina looks to shake things up.
Carolina has a ton of cap space and could be active on the free agent market.

Brett Burns is most likely moving on -
Dobson for Svechnikov?

Carolina can then throw boatloads of $ at Sam Bennett and Niko Ehlers to bolster their top 6.

Isles get the 25-year-old, former 2nd OA pick, who has the potential to be an elite winger in this league. Isles can then sign Grzelyck to man the PP with DeAngelo manning the 2nd unit.

There is also the potential of trying to pry Gostisbehere into the deal; however, it's unclear what else it would cost for the Isles to add him. I wouldn't want them to break the bank for Ghost... hell if they'd take Duclair.

Idk maybe it’s just me, but all I see when I look at Svechnikov is wasted potential. He simultaneously doesn’t use his size, and yet still ends up hurt almost every season. If we’re moving Dobson, there’s gotta be a similarly aged player with a better track record than Svechnikov available.

How is this serious? Minnesota and Winnipeg are 500 miles apart and separated by a boarder (And Brock is American).

And where he chose to spend the last 25 games or so of the 24-25 season have zero baring on where he'd want to sign the next/least long-term deal this offseason.

Flame away, but trying to be creative.

If we're talking about swapping Barzal with a Utah, for example, to select Hagens...
Let Palms walk
Try to sign Marner
Sign Brock Nelson [hometown discount ;)]
Trade JGP to ANA for a 2nd

Lee - Horvat - Marner
Duclair - Nelson - Holmstrom
Engvall - Ritchie/Hagens - Tysplakov
Cizikas - MacLean - Gatcomb

Seems dumb/impossible lol, but I like to burden you all with my brain vomit

You are kind of funny considering they just said that Nelson's home town is closer to Winnipeg arena than the Wild.

Although Nelson is from Minnesota, his hometown of Warroad is geographically closer to Winnipeg than St. Paul, where the Wild are based.

So may I ask, "How is this serious?"

I am not advocating for this, but maybe a full blown rebuild should be explored for this franchise. Winning the first overall pick for this draft and presently having two first rounders in a strong draft next year could alter plans and present an opportunity. The real hard part would be finding dance partners for older and solid players who have some form of trade protection.

He's obviously a very good player, but just never felt like I'd want him. He's also an RFA after next season and will be getting a MASSIVE raise on top of his 7.75M AAV now.
If you're looking for an upgrade on offense, specifically on the wings, I'm not sure you're going to do much better.
