Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

Suter will be overpaid. And Geekie would be awesome, but he is an RFA and I doubt Boston will resign him.

I think the team should be looking for guys they can sign for 1 -2 year deals -
  • Reigning Palmieri at max 2 years is probably a done deal
  • Maybe looking at Mangiapane or Kuzmenko as a buy-low top 6 option
  • Jack Roslovic - although his shooting % was high this season and that may not be replicated
  • They could roll the dice on Anthony Mantha
  • Beauvillier could be an effective top 9 player alongside JGP and Tsyplakov
  • Tanner Jeannot could be a good pick-up to rebuild the 4th line.
  • Trent Frederic looks like a solid guy to ride on JGP's LW - not sure how effective his PK abilities are
  • Philip Kurashev is an RFA and might not be qualified... maybe he can bounce back - QO starts at 2.25.
  • Matt Grzelcyk would be a great option at low term, mid base AAV, especially since the Isles need PMD, and if Dobson is moved for a top 6 F.
It might be smart trades that happen versus UFA signings
  • Trading Duclair for an elite PK like Goodrow or Trenin might be a better fit - same $ and term. Trenin is a big body and elite PK - stone hands, but he would help a struggling PK. money and term are exactly the same.
  • Trading Scott Mayfield to Nashville for Michael McCarron, who also kills penalties and can be the 4C next year. Mayfield could also go if the Isles wanted to take on a former 1st round misfit in Lukas Reichel - more pieces would have to be involved.
  • Trading Dobson for another RFA, Mason Mctavish is my preference. Anaheim has many young C's that can immediately step up - Carlsson and Zegras - they also have a top 10 pick - McQueen and Martin ease that move.
Trenin has stone hands? I’m in. His scoring ability will transfer over seamlessly to this lineup.

Let's hope our new GM (whoever that is) does not pay a 4th liner more than $1M a year. If they're really good 4th liners and deserve a raise on their next contract, trade 'em.

It's hard to fully discuss the offseason until we know who are GM is going to be, but here are some guidelines for whomever it is...

  • No more long-term/free agent contracts for "middle/bottom 6" players.
  • No trading any of the few top prospects in the system unless it is for a player 25 and under.
  • No trading the 2026 1sts (Unless an absolute young stud is coming back for only Colorado's pick).
  • Draft Schaefer #1 overall...Or trade down to accumulate more 2026 1st(s).
  • If he didn't sign his "Lou handshake deal" yet then let Palmieri walk
  • Trade Lee and Pageau if you get a good offer this summer...But definitely by next trade deadline.
  • Resign Dobson to a long-term deal IF...He accepts 8.5M/year or below. If not play hardball into the season if needed while being open to trading him.
    • *If you trade Dobson the return must be AT LEAST what Nelson returned or you keep him.
  • Don't waste money on UFA deals. Instead of trading bad contracts with picks, try to have as much cap as possible to leverage other teams for their bad contracts & picks.
  • Speaking of...We don't have a 2026 2nd rounder thanks to Lou's Bailey trade, so do everything possible to set the team up to draft a bunch in the top 2 rounds in the 2026 draft.

Donato, Kiviranta, Carcone, Giroux, Frederic and maybe Gaudette if the prices are right.

I wonder if Dobson + Engvall for Terry would be a better fit for them.

Zegras is a wing, but they also have Gauthier as well.

Zegras prefers to play C and played there when he was most productive.

I really like Terry, but I doubt they move him- very good contract. And they do not have many RH shot F- Sennecke might need a season in the A.

I really like Zegras and I wouldn’t be mad if a Zegras + (zellweger) for Dobson happened. Love guys with that type of skill

There is also the potential of a Dobson for Kyrou deal - Kyrou has a NMC that kicks in after the draft.

Another two options are Johnson and Peterka -

Johnson has 2 more seasons at 1.8 and he had a great season. Columbus might stick with their guy despite their need on the rightside

Peterka would also be a boost to the top 6, but would hope for another piece if Dobson was going the other way.

The players you mentioned - Giroux goes back to the Sens and Donato might get overpaid - the others except for Frederic - are non events.

It certainly depends on that player’s role - if that player is a key part of their penalty kill then locking that person up makes sense. Someone like Cizikas or Clutterbuck were more than just 4th liners

Of these, Jeannot signing is probably the only one that interests me. We need toughness in the lineup quite badly, and to give that 4th line an identity again.

Like what?
The guy wiuld have led us in scoring!
27G/41A in 77 games at age 23
WE might have to add

Bo Horvat and Nathan McKinnon seem to be clicking at the World Hockey Championships. Maybe we should try trade for McKinnon

Well the Avs won't trade him, but if if you want another superstar "Mc" on the Isles then do what the Avs did to get McKinnon.

Is the Mc pronounced like Mick of Mack? If it’s Mick, we can have Vukota or Foley. If it’s Mack, we might be out of luck.
